8-litre? That engine seems to be bigger everytime I hear about it.

I thought it was a 7-litre.

900hp 8 litre that must be a world record do you have a dyno graph,
will he be taking on drift 6 that would be nice to see him put that thing away, you would hope.:headbang: :woohoo:

haha with double the power and double the displacement he should be able to slaughter Drift6 !!

I dont know why FPV dont turn up the wick on their car - 380kw and 700nm is a very mild tune compared to the potential of this motor.. hell the majority of modded F6 and XR6T drivers have more than this in their daily driver

900hp for a drift car seems a little excessive doesnt it?

wouldnt it be cheaper to whacksome skinnier tyres on.

I thought drift was more about style than horsepower? You know, angle of entry, exit, etc. I'd be surprised to see an AE86 (i think thats the right model) making 900 ponies.

Regardless, a 900HP bent 8 sideways would be a thing of joy to observe

You're right. No-one really needs 900hp but Bolger cant help himself. The engine started life as V8Supercar engine and has now 489cu inch.

The DRIF6 Typhoon is comparitively close to standard and made an impressive competition debut at the first round (finished 5th).

1st place went to Leighton Fine in a relatively underpowered turbo-charged Toyota Sprinter.

Drifting is probably the only form of motorsport in the world where the result isnt largely determined by how much money you through at it.

Re the skinnier wheels comment; a key element in drifting is actually corner speed which means you need lotso of drive/ traction. The top level drivers and cars have plenty of corner speed not just lots of angle and smoke.

like Bolger, the stories grow by the hour....

How do you get 489" into a 9.025" SBC block?? any hints as that would be a world record.......:jester:

Rumour has it it is no more after letting itself out at Willowbank yesterday...maybe the 8 litres was the contents of the dry sump tank........:jester:

They blew it up at QR on Tuesday but its on its way back together now.

Ford Performance Vehicles are bringing their DRIF6 Typhoon. They are confident that they have a package that is capable of embarrassing the big
V8s.

Bolger's stunt riding/driving partner Matt Mingay will also be competing in another V8 Holden Ute.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for some car eligibilty regs for drifting. I've checked a few sites including CAMS but they seem to be very half-hearted rules....Maybe that's the secret...:eyes: In short i want to know what the restrictions are ...

As far as im aware you can build anything and drift it.

 So It seems.... Thanks for that w0lf. I had already read both the CAMS site and the Drift Australia site and just figured there had to be more to it than that....
Drift Australia:
"4.2. Vehicle Eligibilty: Vehicle eligibility shall be at the sole discretion of Drift Australia and all automobiles shall of necessity comply with the standing regulations for drifting.".....Well that's pretty comprehensive and plain...

CAMS make it even more clear:
"Vehicles shall comply with the definition of an automobile." :eyes:
They then go on to say that they must have seat belts, roll-protection if an open car, steel brake-lines, scatter shields, flame protection, exhaust exit points etc, but bugger-all as to what you can and can't do....
So...I guess it's anything goes....

well you wouldn't expect there to be many rules for a "sport" with as little credibility as spinning wheels around a road circuit would you seldo??

rule 1 smoke and drift as much as possible,
rule 2 bring a truck load of tyres.

Yeah that was kinda my question too.

Did I miss something? Isn't Jeremy Lake driving this car anymore?

And what's happening with the Ute?

really the rules and regs don't mean a great deal...

what other form of Motorsport can you see Japanese imports against a 900HP Monaro, and it still be an even contest.

Leighton Fine's beast is nowhere near the level of the Monaro or the Ute, but he still manages to do extremely well...except on the weekend...go the Monaro.

basically it doesn't matter how much power you've got, if you don't have the appropriate control or the skill to 'drift' it successfully, you're still not going to beat the AE86's...

If you have this attitude, as many 'older' Australian do, then it's unlikely to change, but don't knock it till you try it.

Really, what is the point of gooing around a circuit over and over again?? Or driving fast in a straight line against a clock??

No motorsport has a purpose, except for development, promotion and to have fun, and it achieves all of this.

Dane

ps I do club sprints, I don't drift, so it's not a biased opinion. But I have drifted in the past and it's one of the most fun and exciting things I've ever done.

But if it is the best fun you have ever had in motorsport......I feel sorry for you.

Don't patronise me mate, you were having a go. But that's fine, whatever.

Everyone has their own opinion, and that is fine, if they didn't the world would be a very boring place.

And I never said that it was the best fun I've had in motorsport. The best fun I've had in motorsport thus far was the Winton sprints I did on the weekend, so no need to feel sorry for me, but I appreciate the concern...
