After reading posts on here lastnight i threw a Ripshift in my vy ss yoot today and its amazing how much better it is. In an effort to try and improve what i've always considered to be a bloody awful, vauge, notchy, long throw standard setup i put in a B&M short shift...which was somewhat better but still really notchy....it snapped at the shaft yesterday after 12 months.:fewl: By doing away with all the drag you get with the linkages the Ripshift is sooo much smoother, lighter and more prescise its not funny! It is noisier as i was warned but i'm sure i can fix that with a bit more insulation of some sort under the leather shift boot. Thanks to SONNY at MARRANO'S 4 the advice & the unit:dance:

I think I must be the only person who is having issues with the Ripshifter. Mine seems to feel like it is hitting something when I shift especially in second and third and it is still very notchy in all gears. I have been assured it is fitted properly (Forum sponsor). Hopefully with some more use it will get better.

You would assume it was fitted correctly CV8, The only thing i can think of is that you may not have the two adjustable bolts which limit the throw distance wrongly set? I'd be ringing the sponsor again. I can't see it loosening up with time because there are no bushes to bed in like on a linkage setup. As stated apart from a bit of noise i can't praise mine enough, it totally changes the whole feel of the car. Swapped with a mate today with a newish MONARO and he's going to get one asap.....and he didn't have any real issues with the standard setup like i did....until today anyway! It now feels like i'm swapping cogs in my wife's golf:dance:

Hmmm might get it checked again, thanks for the advice.

I had exactly that problem in my old car, and to some degree with the car I have now as well. Was a VX, with race spec Rip shifter. I changed the gearbox oil, to redline and transmax z, and still no love. Felt like it was slamming into a gate in between shifts, veeery notchy, you literally couldnt shift it into gears until the box let you. If you tried to slam it through you could hear the driveline take a jolt. It was a first, neutral, then second type of shift. Having used both oils I thought the Redline (super light or something, ask WA Performance) was best, but the difference wasnt enought to enjoy the shift.
Long story short, we put the problem down to the synchros, I couldnt be assed shelling out to fix them, so I sold the car and bought a new Maloo. Which now has a Street Version of the Rip shifter, (which I find much nicer for day to day use) which is much easier to shift though slightly notchy still. Down shifting is awesome in the new car, much easier with the Ripper.
If you need more info just ask.
