View Full Version : Air Intake Question??
VT GEN3

Is there a benefit in getting an OTRCAI over my current air intake setup??
I have a mafless tune with GTS Mafpipe, modified airbox and Monaro CAI and panel filter.
I dont wanna spend $500 on a OTR when it will deliver 1hp more. Know what i mean?
What benefit will it have over my current setup

there is a massive amount of info, do a search and have a read, but yes there is, not really a dyno thing thou.

Main gain is that timing in a stockish tune wont be pulled as easily when stationary and then the OTRCAI will cool the IAT sensor value much quicker - helping add timing. This is why sometimes gains can be over 20rwkw.
But part of the gain is more air and colder average temperature air which also allows more fuel to be added in the tune - just like when you do any other good mod. This will also add more rwkw. But my guess is that its maybe only 10rwkw given everything else is kept the same.
At the strip they will usually gain 0.2-0.35s ET and 2-3 mph.

My car on a dyno back to back had 7rwkw more with the OTRCAI compared to ur exact current intake setup. I imagine when moving it would be better still.

I used to think moving it would help more.
But i havent collected anything in logs that support the idea. The Kpa manifold pressure still behaves the same on the dyno as it does on the road.
I dont think there is any evidence for a measurable ram effect.

My ute picked up 12rwhp (about 8-9 rwkw) over a gts cai with two hole mod. Made a nice difference in feel.

Ps this was on a 224/228 112lsa cam.
