View Full Version : H.S.V.'s "SIGNATURE" COUPE-THE "LAST" ONE?!
Pickles
24-06-2006, 02:20 PM
HSV have just announced that the last 70 Coupes, to be built during July/Aug, will be built as a limited edition "SIGNATURE COUPE".
Specifications are:
All 70 units in Sting Red.
Maloo Z2 R8 wheels.
AP 6 Piston brakes.
Sunroof
Bluetooth.
Yokohama tyres (as opposed to Pirellis)
Unique framed certificate.
R.R.P. $83950.
This looks to be pretty good value, the brakes & sunroof alone would add close to $10k onto the cost of an "ordinary" GTO, which is still $79k.
Of course, this is a far, far cry from the LS7 powered "Super Coupe" that I have mentioned on several occasions. Only today, I was talking to a friend of mine & I said that I was still hopeful that the "Super Coupe" would eventuate.
Press release clearly states that these will be the "final 70 Coupes". Maybe 50 Super Coupes will be built before these!!---But I don't think so!
Anyway guys, what do you think?

I think my super Coupe shits all over that ... no more power, nothing you couldn't option yourself before, no better price wise than what you would probably be able to negotiate now anyway ...
The framed certificate is about the only difference ... woop-de-freakin-do. I very glad I didn't hold off on buying the Coupe in the hope of something extra special at the end.

Yeah, well having just purchased the LE 6 weeks ago I was gritting my teeth as to if the LE would be overshadowed by this final batch and it's a bit of a relief really.
Mines Sting red and 1 of 25 so I'm rapped.
Dont miss the 'roof from my old CV8-Z, and a framed certificate and different brakes and tyres aren't enough to sway me into a trade-in.
But a 427 coupe.....mmmmaybe.
cheers

Sinse I posted the original information, I have, unfortunately, heard that the rumoured LS7 powered "Supercoupe", code BB7 is officially DEAD.
So, this does actually appear to be the last one--obviously not a "supercoupe"!!!---But, in my opinion, not bad value all the same.
Cheers, Pickles.

Rip off considering you can buy a near new Z for a little extra.

$84k seems a bit rich, even for what extra's you get. I don't know why Holden didn't release a batch of 427's, they would have sold like hotcakes.

bit of a dissappointing finaly for such a great car at least up the power aswell and give it different wheels to everything else make it completely unique, the colour thing is a bit weird to they could have chosen a better colour, like british racing green or something(has anyone seen a coupe in this colour i reakon it would look smick)

Again, its a case of the marketeers earning their money and helping the company move out the last of the coupes.
Stick bits left on the shelf onto some cars and sell em as some sort of special edition. It's almost as if every car sold is some sort of SS-Z or CV8-Z or LE or Signature or Skaife or HSVDT or HRT edition. At the end of the day the regular cars would almost end up rarer... Or better value. But who can calculate the true value of the cars these days as no one pays RRP anymore...

Yep, there's no doubt that this does happen!( & will contiue to)
However, in the case of the HSV Coupe, there's a couple of things to consider.
I'd never have been able to afford a "BB7" supercoupe anyway, & it would have hardly been comparable with an "ordinary" GTO Coupe like ours. So, whether it was made, or not made, was not of major significance to us.
The recently produced "LE" Coupe didn't worry us either- we actually quite like them, although we prefer ours.
Likewise, the Signature Coupe looks ok, & with 6 spot brakes, sunroof etc, it looks to be good value. In fact, looking at its price of $84k, which includes $10k of extras, there's no way anyone should now be paying anywhere near the RRP of $79k for an ordinary GTO.
But, I tell you, as an "ordinary" VZ GTO owner, I'm quite pleased that the last Coupe is not more special! As I've said, We couldn't have afforded a "Supercoupe", but if the HSV "Signature" Coupe with it's existing features, had also included a minor engine upgrade to say 330/340 KW, & lower diff ratio etc, it would have been dearer, but not significantly so. Implications of such a car to us would have been--(a)"that's a better & rarer GTO than ours,- we should have bought one of those!" (b) as such a car was not significantly dearer than ours, but had more power & features, it could, in the future, have been seen as "THE" GTO to own, thereby affecting the value & exclusivity of "ordinary" GTOs such as ours!
However, we now know that none of those things are going to happen. So from our point of view we're happy in the knowledge that our VZ 6 litre GTO is not going to be "outshone", & that the reasons we bought it are still, & will continue to be, valid-ie, a 6 litre Coupe is the most powerful, is the "last of the line", & so has to be a good thing!
And I reckon a VZ GTO is a good thing, We certainly don't regret buying ours.
Cheers, Pickles.

Well it would have been great if the LS7 'BB7' had of eventuated but such is life and just another lesson never to believe any of the Bulls#*t that comes out of HSV until you see it on the showroom floor.
I may just have to frame my order for the 'BB7' and dream of what could have been.
Just relieved that I took the each way bet and bought one of the last Coupe4's which with the Harrop manifold,Harrop brakes,STA suspension kit and Higgins built stroker should satisfy my own needs for a 'Super Coupe'

This is exactly why i am just sitting back waiting. We were going to jump straight in on a new gto att a good price. But i was really put of by the build numbers. A new 05 gto with a build number of 500 odd. Thats not rare. The black le gtos were growing on me, but this signature sounds better at a better price. I just dont see the hype unless it has the huge brakes and a few options. So now i can wait for these signatures to come out & still chec out what the ve brings. I just dont trust manufacturers. There will be some still siting around even when the ve comes out. 6 litres arent exactly running out the door. One thing, i hope they dont have the poxy stripes on them.

So in this case essentially HSV have done you a favour... Gotta be happy with that. What would have killed you more is if the had of released an equivalent of a Porsche RSCS (rennsport clubsport, something maybe named GTO R8 or GTO RS, you get the idea) with ohlins, 330 factory flywheel kw's for about $90K with a build of 25 units. That wouldn't have helped the exclusivity of your car. But they didn't, so you can be happy. No more backdoor specials slipping out either to customers 'in the know' (like the early 70's)
Really all that matters is that YOU are happy with your car. If that is the case, then its money well spent. And I agree with you that it's about as good as a HSV gets atm, coz I was within 6 hours of a cooling off period expiration from buying one. Too much money for me at this stage tho!!!

There are no stripes on the Signature Coupe. However you could still consider getting an "ordinary" GTO built with the AP brakes, if you weren't fussed about a sunroof. However the signature looks like a good package to me- it'll be interesting to see how popular they are, & whether they affect the sales of any remaining LE GTOs. Anyone know how many of them are left, & what sort of "driveaway" prices are being quoted?
Cheers, Pickles.

pickles, the signature sounds like its exactly what we were after. I wanted better brakes than the standard gto, & the wife wanted a sunroof. So now there is one that fits the criteria. We will see price wise what happens. I know there is at least fifty different new as well as more with less that 50 km on them for sale. If u cant get a standard 06 for under $74k drive away there is a problem.:headbang:

“Coupé signs off with a Signature”
HSV announce GTO Coupe production ends in August
As production of HSV’s legendary two-door sensation, the Coupé, enters its final phase it is set to be given the ultimate send off. This final iteration carries all the world-class credentials of the current Z Series model (including the HSV-exclusive 6.0 litre LS2 V8 producing a sizzling 297kW @ 6000rpm and 530Nm @ 4400rpm) and is bolstered by an array of distinctive sporting and luxury highlights. Called the ‘Signature Coupé’, this limited edition model is one megastar whose autograph is not to be missed.
Only 70 will be built and these will be the very last Coupés to flow down the HSV production line. As a result, the conventional HSV individual vehicle number system, which begins with build number one and counts upwards, is being reversed. Therefore, it will actually be a ‘countdown’ with the final Coupé off the line to be badged number one.
In the tradition of HSV limited edition models, the ‘Signature Coupé’ is packed full of exclusive styling cues, premium performance features and desirable appointments. All 70 will come in the ever-popular Sting Red paintwork which, in this instance, has been enhanced with unique ‘Gloss Black’ accenting on the front and rear facias and ‘Signature’ badging on the rear deck lid. Shades of the awesome GTS-R show car can be clearly seen in the intricate design of the striking new 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, which come complete with premium Yokohama tyres.
HSV’s AP Six-Piston Brake System brings standout braking performance to match the standout appearance. Still one of the most powerful braking packages fitted to any road car it features six-piston front callipers acting on huge 362mm cross-drilled and grooved rotors and at the rear four piston callipers and 343mm cross-drilled and grooved rotors.
Inside, the usual Coupé standard features (including full leather trim, climate control air-conditioning and Blaupunkt audio system) get a further lift with the addition of an HSV Sunroof, unique ‘Signature’ floor mats and the convenience of Bluetooth connectivity.
In recognition of the fact that these ‘end of an era’ models will quickly achieve collector’s edition status with many buyers, each of the 70 cars comes with a unique owner’s framed certificate.
Exceptional value for money is an HSV hallmark and ‘Signature Coupé’ is no exception – the recommended retail price of this ‘last of a true legend’ model has been set at just $83,990 (+ORC).

Saw that ... Nothing special IMO (black outs look like they were painted as an after-thought) ... but at least they didnt go f!@# it up with some stupid stripes and removed the spoilers (coz they were out of stock :stick:) ... obviously I'm not the only one who thinks so because they can't give the LE's away at the moment, plenty on carsales.com.au too ...... The best coupe will always be the plain GTO's with some added options ... But I'm biased
Want a rare and special VZ GTO? There are only 2 ever made in Impulse Blue. Both 04' models, both M6's. Sold by Suttons here in Sydney. One was recently sold by the owner, I think he was pretty desperate and let it go for around $60K. That's rare. They really look hot in impulse blue as well.

The spoiler on the GTO is very different to the add on crap some people option on the Monaro (yes that doesn't go) ... On the GTO it's a lower profile that was designed to add symmetry and be part of the rest of the kit (not an add on extra, or in the LE's case deletion) ... that’s why it looks better and more aggressive with it on!
