hey pete, mine's auto (manual should be better on fuel) so no real comparison here but on a long trip i can get about 700+klms out of a tank of hwy driving, and around town about 400-450klms:yup: , only exhaust and air intake mods. my work mate has a vy ss wagon(manual) and he's trip computer on a hwy drive averages about 9.2L-100klms but the best i can get mine to is around 9.9-10L.
p.s. the right foot is (nearly)always responsable for high fuel consumption:burnout: :rolleyes:mick..

yeah ok, i was going easy on it, and it seems alright, but you only have to get up it for a bit and ur down a 1/4, its harsh haha. i could handle 400 - 450 i guess ill have to be good, and keep the t/c button on haha, yeah right!! thanks guys. -cheers pete-
350 isnt that flash. I get 430+ whether its driven hard or not with 300rwkw, manwell too!! With heads and cam.

I can get 410km from a tank of Unleaded around town in a completely stock vehicle. It is driven normally aswell.

Yes mines the same 350km per tank, fuel light comes on around 300km and I get another 50k before I fill up, once its at 350 I refuel. Thats driving it like a baby too, seems to be normal.

You must drive it harder than i do, by 350 im only just touching the 1/4 tank line.

---A4 VY2 3.73 Pacie tri- Y HSV VY2 inlet & cat back exhaust with Monaro cats down low. No tune yet as been too busy.
I get 430 per 65 litres at a weekly average of 40 km/hr around town flogging it off the line with the 3.73's, (often get up to 90kph before I back off then slowing down to 64kph on cruise) in town traffic. I used to get 480km per 65 litres with the old 3.07 diff and standard inlet & standard exhaust and driving more carefully at a weekly average of 40 km/hr in town.
These numbers are rock solid accurate.

Guys whats doing?? my 6 speed VY SS gets 550km's - 600km's per tank. Pretty much all city driving on a daily basis. Car is standard so i would have thought edit, OTRCAI, full zorst would help those figures?

 I only get 320ks and that giving it a little, well that's what I got the other day after I got my exhaust fitted to the car :burnout: . When I drive normal and never go over 3000rpm I can get 400ks out of a full tank and thats suburban driving. When I drove to queensland I got 700ks or more. Tomorrow I am getting a K&N Air filter and my mail order maf tune pcm should be here tomorrow so hopefully I will get more ks (not the first couple of days though :nyuk: ).
Cheers,

I get about 350 out of a tank, probably 380 was my best ever. The car is my daily driver, and it gets a 50/50 mix of city/highway driving (well, as much highway as traffic allows :D ).

usually anywhere from 430-460, have done over 500kms maybe twice thats on 95ulp with exhaust, headers, 3.91s and K&N filter.
I find using BP ultimate I get slightly less Kms to the tank, could be the right foot though?

I only ever get down to about half way and at that time I've usually done between 300 - 350 k's. My "litres per 100km" is just under 14 with no highway driving. Its funny as even when the gauge shows just under half full, I've used about 50 odd litres since the last refuel. The tank only holds 75.

26-06-2006, 11:44 AM
It's probably better to talk in litres/100km, so we can compare numbers. We all fill the tank at different stages of 'emptiness'.
I get 12.5 - 13.0 l/100km around town, taking it fairly easy with the occasional squirt. A highway trip sees 8.5 - 10.0 l/100km depending on the road, the traffic and how hard I drive it.
Theoretically I could get almost 900km to a tank!! Regular cruising on B-Grade highways (not freeway) typically returns a safe 750km per tank.

Have never seen worse than 12.5 per 100 since new. I average 11/100 city/hwy and have gotten as low as 8/100 sitting on 120 with a/c on, 3 pax and tray full of holiday stuff. Not affected by fuel type - have tried them all. Only mod is a 2.5 inch twin system and insist on Mobil 1 oil.

I've just got back ìnto HSV after few years out of one (divorce) and was amazed with the fuel economy - used to run around 19.5 - 20 l /100klms in VX R8 now running 12.5 - 14.5 normal driving (with squirt here and there) in VZ R8.

WL Caprice V8 gets 570km's out of a tank piss (everyday punt with the average redliner or 12)
... A drive to Albany & back saw me get 9L/100km, so about 830kms... She pulled 190 before slowing up (truck in opposite lane started to look big)

Appears asthough zorst and induction is the way to go to maximise fuel usage, sound better too... although it could provoke over-usage of the right foot ...hmmmm

That's so true, for the last month I have been driving like an old lady to see how many ks I can get out of a full tank, 91 was 366ks with 49ks left to empty. 95was 378ks giving it a little here and there but mostly grandma style with 75ks left to empty and 98 was 367 giving it here and there most of the time with 42ks to empty. BUT since I got my exhaust on friday I got 310ks out of a full tank on 98  . Now today I got my maf mail order tune and filled up at 1:00pm with 98 I have done around 110ks flogging it here and there and a few smoke shows in private area's and it's just under three quarters of a tank. So i'll see how I will go since I empty this tank of having fun :nyuk: and start driving like a old lady and hope to see 450 and I'll be happy.

Cam only LS1 (222/224) A4 with 3.9s calculations using real Kms and litres (not the gauge)
Town only = 16.8L/100Km this week. This surprised me, probably worse if I'm giving it a bit.
Highway only = 12.6L/100Km - I thought this would be better but I do like a bit of WOT on overtaking
It's probably better to talk in litres/100km, so we can compare numbers.
Damn right, meaningless otherwise.
Just filled up tonight and took 72 ltrs. Trip read av/sp 58, lts/100 14.2, odometer=488.6. Not bad out of a blown LS1.

my vx exec 5.7 6 spd Mods- CAI,Full custom twin 2.5,maf pipe,Tune, I constantly get 500 plus around town that includes a bit of hard driving. On the Highway I get 800 plus easily. I have tried other air intakes(pod, growler) and I found the CAI makes a big difference to the economy.

Interesting to see diferent figures here. I looked up the figures from last statement for 3 months driveing. 06/02/2006-31/05/2006 worst figure is 11.27l/100, best 8.29l/100. Only mod from standard is a Vaporate system fitted free for trial testing. A fair mix of city and highway but no heavy traffic to speak of. Car is 2004 VY2 Calais with 105000 klm

No doubting i give my car a far hiding to say the least. 500km round town and easily better than 800ks on freeway. Manual 3.46 gears. Nothing but 98 octane in her with the occasional bottle of booster.

Did a trip to the country 3 weeks ago. Full tank (70ltrs) of Optimax and got 650km from it with my blower. 9.2l/100km is not too bad for forced induction. Have been meaning to test it out for a while. Was quite impressed. I suppose with the stock 3.08's its off boost @ 1900 rev's.
Though around town with a few squirts is a different question :(

I fueled mine up the night i brought it. Reset the trip and gave it a boot through 1st and 2nd and managed a whopping 88.2L/100kms :eyes:
I used to get anywhere between 440-510 out of a tank of Ultimate. Auto + 3.46 gears, zorst and edit. Mind you thats Canberra driving so pretty much combination Hwy/city driving with not too much stop start traffic.
Out of interest, do all the SS models come with 75ltr tank?? Do the Exec V8's come with standard 60 something litre or is the 75ltr tank standard to all V8's??

hey bad123,
i get 350kms to my tank.. but the computer fuel guage is wrong... you must check the tank capacity vs the fuel usage to get a correct reading...
i get an extra 120kms after the computer is telling me that im empty...
put a 20lt jerry in the boot and write down when the computer says its empty and then when you run outta fuel.. do the maths and then you'll get a good idea of kms per tank...
my ute has been in to holden three times just to get the fuel gauge reset and it still reads about 18 to 20 lts wrong.
the only good thing about the fuel gauge reading wrong is it doesn't cost as much to fill the tank... lol
cheers...

I get an average of 13 - 14 litres per 100km in my cv8. That's both a mix of city and freeway driving. Not bad I don't think considering I like to thrash it a little. This is also un-edited which i hope when done will improve the economy.

just for a comparison between engines, in my VS GTS 5.7 stroker i get about 16L/100km jus driving normally around the city, giving it a hard time sees between 19-21L/100km and the best on the highway has been 9.2L/100km. seems the LS1 is a bit more refined in this area

Vulture is right L/100km is the best comparison, otherwise fuel gauge innaccuracy will change results.
I used to get 18-19 L/100km when stock, now 14-15 L/100km with HSV intake, HM Headers tri-y's and Pontiac calibration.

Lots of differing figures around, so here is my 2c worth.
VZ SS 6M, 18 months old 41,000kms.
Fuel usage figures from lease statement.
Best tank = 9.61L/100 or 728 kms/tank (using 70 litres)
Worst tank = 15.19L/100 or 460 kms/tank (using 70 litres)
Average = 12.92L/100 or 541 kms/tank (using 70 litres)
Note: used 70 litres for the "tank" figure as we don't usually run the tank bone dry before re-filling.
Most of my driving involves 50/50 mix of city/highway each week (go through a tank per week).
Some of the figures quoted ie: 600 kms from a tank for doing 100% city driving are amazing  , that's about 12.5L/100 using the entire 75 litres in the tank or about 11.66L/100 using a more reasonable 70 litres. These would be great figures for a V6 let alone a V8?????

After a tune at Power Torque...
Filled up last night after work and the result is 11.6L/100KM.
About 150km of that was highway driving and 185km of that was city/suburban driving. I was driving it hard for about the first 150km then I started driving it sedately.
Next week when I fill up, i'll post my result.
Also, when I filled up and turned on my car, the distance to empty read 680km, the highest I had ever seen when I had filled up before the tune was 570km. On the highway, the instant L/100KM display hovered between 7.1-7.6.

VT M6, Monaro CAI with GTS tube, Tri Y's, HSV cat back, 3.46 diff. Stock tune at the moment so it's likely to be running rich as hell. 98 Vortex.
Never worse than low side of 15 l/100km during mixed suburban driving (10 to 15km trips). When I mix about 30% highway drops down to 14 mark. Other extreme, I can manage high side of 7l/100km for a steady Sydney-Canberra drive.
Putting your foot down occasionally enroute seems to have less of an effect on consumption than number of engine stop/starts - looks like the LS1's chews through the juice warming up. I can see average consumption reducing simply by making longer trips in the same traffic! (got a Calais trip cluster)
Never had an LS1 auto but am constantly surprised how well the consumption is for the auto's, not much difference to the M6 from the sound of it.
