Hi All,
Over the weekend I did the world famous 2nd hole in the airbox mod on my clubby. Many threads on this forum related to this topic mention the purchase of a K&N filters as part of the mod and I was just wondering why? I had a service done on the car last week and the air filter was replaced (not sure what brand but not K&N) and before I go out and spend $100+ on a K&N filter, I just wanted to find out what difference does it make.

Two main reasons to buy one ;
1) They are not a dense as a paper filter & provide you with a better induction note under WOT and.
2) You can clean & re-oil them (they are not a throw away item).
There has been a lot of discussion regarding their filtering ability compared to a paper filter & I don't think you get any appreciable power increase from them (and yes I have one !!).

Have seen it on a dyno with my car. Got the standard one out and put in a K&N and picked up 2 kW the next run. Not a great improvement but better than a kick in the head.

search for related threads there has been scientific testing of the various types and the k&n did not fair very well compared to the OEM in the area of filtering.

Fella's - There is absolutely no performane gain to fitting a K&N over the standard filter.
Trust me on that !!!

Spot on and by the way factory filter is only $10 - $15, that a lot of new factory filters before you recoup the cost of K&N panel filter!

That is UNLESS you can pick up a K & N from supercheap on a % off sale day for $50.
Each to their own, as long as you keep the maintenance up to the K & N it will be okay.
The price of the oem filters does always seem to be creeping upwards though....

Hi,
What SSASSC1 says aligns with the views of some who have taken the time to run some tests. Considering all of the applause for the research into the worth of certain brands of CAI systems, we should welcome feedback on other mods too shouldn't we?
There was a guy who wrote a no-nonsense magazine known as ZOOM. I think he sold it and started the Autospeed website. This website puts out no0bulldust articles. The link below should take you to an article that explains the worth of washable filters. The article is entitled "DONT BOTHER CHANGING FACTORY FILTERS":
