A while ago, i took my car to holden, telling them that my car was feeling funny, the up nd go that used to be there was gone, and only sometimes came along to suprise me, holden then advised me that they looked at the whole car from inside out, and said there was nothing wrong with it.
I took it to sonny's last week, and got him to install a tex clutch, a few days ago i asked him to go over the car, he called me today saying that he had a quick look and found the following...
-broken left hand front engine mount
-Link pin bushes left hand front
-Castor rod bush (left hand front)
-Rear c.v drive shafts have excessive movement
-Trans tunnel rubber torn
-O2 sensors were white, (Car running too lean)
and that was just a quick little inspection, thats not even too detailed,
now i wanna know how the hell holden missed all that, especiall when they said that they had checked all those things... :cussing:
:hmmm: i wonder, did they check all this with their eyes closed or something??
now as of yet, i have no idea what all those parts will set me back, on the flip side though, sonny will be working his magic soon enough.

You would think that they would look for stuff so they can make money out of ya.

Is the car under warranty?

Where is Sonny's located? I live in Sydney as well and I find it hard to find a good mechanic so i've been jumping from one shop to the other every time i needed something fixed. Thank you.

He is probably only a 16 year old 1st year apprentice looking over your car. (ie checking the oil level). Moral of story dont take it to Holden and expect it be looked at by pros. Specialist workshops are the go.

Not to mention who ever had ur box out last didnt bother to grease the input shaft and pilot bearing, which caused intense amount of heat causing the pilot bearing to seize and pretty much score ur input shaft severly....

That problem isnt restricted to holden alone. My brothers Falcon (AU) recently was serviced (cost $800) and they did next to nothing.

I took it in to get checked out (A hidden hose had fallen off), and the guy there told us the wheel bearings were rooted (and they were, i remember hearing it), he couldnt understand how Ford could have missed it.

A mate of mine used to be an apprentice at a Holden Dealership. He told me a few stories of what goes on. Boy, now I know why people have such bad opinions of the dealers...

One story was that apprentices drained the oil out of a car, tipped it into a 44 gallon drum along with oil from other cars, and then opened the tap on the drum and put it back in the car. How sad is that ???

The other is when the apprentices take the car for a test drive afterwards, you know the rest of the story .... :driving: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

I always record my speedo reading when it goes in for it's service. Can my warranty be voided if I get the services done at say a sponsors workshop ? Because I do low k's, the services are 6 monthly but done by the km, i.e. 10,000km service @ 6 months, 20,000km service @ 1 year. I'm coming up to 12,000km but will have to pay for the 30,000km service. The next one in 6 months will be 40,000km which is a big on I believe ? My car will be lucky to have 15,000km by then.

If your car is serviced at the recommended intervals by a licensed mechanic and any replacement parts are oem quality then your new car warranty is valid. But warranty work would need to be carried out by a Holden dealer.

Extended warranty you would need to read the fine print but usually they are based on you need to take it back to the selling dealer for service.

I get mine serviced at Sam's, its always ready on time and any things I ask to be looked at I get an explanation on rather than the 'nothing found' line..

Holden has offered to service my Coupe 4 for free for 3 years ... twice a year. I said "thanks, but no thanks".

I have never taken it back to Holden since I bought it, Sonny does all the servicing, I don't think I need to explain why !!! Hope you are all fixed up soon.

Holden really needs to get there act into gear, it's a pity but most of the dealerships are the same. I used to work at Toyota and I also have some good stories about customers cars.

Check car over when picking it up and yes record speedo reading and make them aware that you have taken photo of the reading....

when i picked my brand new thunder ute up from the dealer it had 32ks on the clock and an average consumption figure of 28.9L/100

So needless to say the first 32ks of my cars life was abit cruel... I could be worng though.... ?

Remind me if when i took my GTS to Sonny for the First time to put some better brakes on it. I said to him, can you have a look at it and tell me what you think of its condition (Mechanically).

With the car on the hoist he proceed to point out a million different things, which all related to some of the issues i was going to ask him to investigate. Needless to say the GTS was only every serviced by Sonny after that point.

That fuel consumption would be expected. It would have been a lot of stop start driving so consumption would definately be high. You will see that same thing happen if you reset your trip counter in city traffic. The fuel consumption will jump right up to probably over 30l/100. It wil average itself out with a bit more driving though.

I have just had my 1st bad experience with a Holden dealer, and i am not happy. I took it in to get the diff looked at as the LSD is not working. I picked it up, they tell me the LSD is fine, but the clutch is rooted, i drove it less than 20 mins and all i could smell was burning clutch, i rang them, they say "it was like that"
Great!
I took it to my normal mechanic and he tested the LSD its stuffed (put it on a host, held one wheel spun the other, they are not meant to spin like that apparently), the clutch is on its way out, but doesnt smell today!
So i called the dealer back and just sitting here waiting for the dip stick to call me back to explain to me how they missed that when my mechanic found it!

Sorry to go off the service side of the story but what about the 1st year app and the washed up mechanics that are in PD who (most of the time dont give a s*#!) deal with your brand new car. Most of them but not at all of them are worse than the mechanics that are working in the service dept. Dont forget that the guys in PD deal with your car before the guys in service even see your car unless its a lemon . Then you have the outsourced work that holden dont wont to deal with as most of the workers dont give a s*#! or the work is not in a HOLDEN workshop book for them to follow. But dont forget that that the dealer wants the cheapest way out of a situation.!!!!!
