BEWARE

Hey all, thought I'd start a thread of my own for my new Thunder ute, got it about 6 weeks ago and have done a few mods so thought I'd get up some pics of the progress. Its a 2006 Quicksilver, 6.0L L76, with Red hot Leather, progress pictures and descriptions of whats happening below:

The day after I bought it stock as a rock

Lowered 3 days later on Pedders coilovers and SSSL rear springs

http://www.qldstreetcar.com/forum/uploads/post-13-11462885361.jpg

with the 20s on, 20x8.5 Speedy Octane Gloss Black/chrome lip - 245/35/20's and my old BEWARE plates

then the stereo with CD/DVD/TV Alpine 7in touch screen, Type R 10in sub, Type X splits, D class amp and 4 ch amp in custom made, red trimmed enclosures and some SS mats, also the chev grille(badge painted silver rather than gold) and VZ Calais chrome bonnet trim

http://www.qldstreetcar.com/forum/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=166900

Then I got the exhaust done, Pacemaker Tri-y Extractors, twin 2.5in using the standard cats opened up and moved back, 2 mufflers in the middle and then straight back to twin droopy tips in matt black in the middle for a bit of old skool tuffness on a new car...sounds nice and has a good burble and crack when you back off, not too loud when you need to be stealth and noisey up top!

http://www.qldstreetcar.com/forum/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=166902

And as it sits now, just got it back from having the rear end tidied up, got the infill to centralise the number plate so the tips are either side of it which you can just see poking down in the 2nd pic, also had the standard exhaust cutout blanked and filled and then resprayed that bumperette all for a bit of a smooth arse and a bit of stealth, and also replaced the Holden lion with a silver Chev bowtie. Took a few pics in different areas so a few randoms below.

http://www.qldstreetcar.com/forum/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=167208

took off the SS badge and got the tint done in a dark film with a nice amount of metalised reflection which goes well with the silver, and finally had a pinstripe redwall put onto my stocko 18s for when I want to swap between the 18s and the 20s so its still abit flashy.

And thats about it for now, still to come will be some extra bits trimmed in red suede to customise the interior a little bit and then the CAI, Edit, Diff gears and off to willowbank for some runs. That'll about do me for round 1 and I'll be happy with her for a while

nah, the whole point was to have them tucked up and back a bit, for a stealthy, clean look. I wanted people to be able to just see the bottoms of the droops from behind!!

:bounce:

Just a few more things to go, as you said, Tune time in a few weeks, CAI and gears, plus a little bit of interior customising to set it apart from other SS's...not too much else to go for this stage of mods!

What do you do for a spare wheel?

Worry about it when I need it, a short phonecall and someone will bring me my spare if I'm in that situation! My last 3-4 cars haven't had spares due to exhaust or stereos or some other reason.

Thanks for all the positive encouragement...much appreciated :)

thats awsome.......
love the black wheels!!!!!!!!!!!

You've got one damn fine Monaro too, certainly very nicely done!

The wheels may not be staying, got defected for the tyres and apparently their isn't a 20in tyre that will legally fit....so I have no idea how all the commodores with 20s are doing it?

BEWARE
08-07-2006, 04:26 PM
correction, 255/30/20s are the only legal tyre so I have been told, its to do with overall rolling diameter which I was 15mm over, but 255s are too wide, and too expensive ($630 each in yokohama). So now I have to work out what to do, I want my 20s....stockos are back on for now!

VXEXEC350
08-07-2006, 05:54 PM
Mate that's a shame. They were the nicest 20s I have seen on a Holden. They are usually too bling for me.

Ah well go the stockies. I love mine

14-07-2006, 11:50 AM
Went out to Willowbank last night for the 7-11 and I managed 4 runs in the Thunder. Basically its stock, with extractors and twin 2.5in on the standard 18s

14.0 @ 100mph
13.8 @ 101mph
13.5 @ 95mph (this was heading for a very quick run, but backed off early)
13.6 @ 103mph

Overall very happy, good times, and all I wanted was to crack a 13, the 13.5 run I was manually shifting and hit limiter in 2nd, then decided to back off just before the line, so may have had a 13.3/13.4!?!?!?!?!?

Give it a month or 2 and and I'll be back out with the CAI, edit and 3.9's hoping for a 12 on the stockos again, then try some stickier semi-slicks!

thanks Brett, be interested to see how your audio turns out, I think the same guys approached me about a setup, but I'd already done mine, would have liked to have done it, so we'll see how yours goes!

just for extra info my 60ft times were 2.1/2.0 not really stalling it up too much, so might try that next time too!

Very nice ute, good colour - i chose the same but got black leather in a manual.

Love all of your mods and i am going to do some of the same mods. I have only been on this website for the last 2 nights and it was a great surprise to see the exact same car as mine modified in such a tasteful manner - well done and congrats!

How much did you drop it? as that will be the first thing i will do!!!!!!

Are you going to put cold air induction on it?

How much difference did the exhaust make as far as performance?

Sorry for asking so many questions, thanks for any help and info.

Ryan

Its got coilovers up front, and SSSL springs in the rear

Yeah doing CAI, gears and tune next month

I ran a 13.5 with just the exhaust as the only mod, standard they were meant to run 14.0 I think, so decent pickup....much more torquey!

20's will be for sale after the Commo Cruise(13/8) if anyone is interested. Lost my licence so would rather get rid of them and use the money elsewhere to mod the ute while suspended from driving, plus if I get a probationary work licence I'd rather it be less noticeable with stockos on! But If they don't sell, they'll go back on later.

awesome ride mate, love those rims!

i would love them on my car, but i already got 19s, and decent rubber for them is expensive enough! Out of interest, how much would ya want for the wheels mate??

Bad luck about ya licence, what happened?

BEWARE
19-07-2006, 06:42 PM
I only had 3 points left, being silly speeding excessivley lost me those 3 points....ah well, no biggie....gives me some time to save and play with the ute.

Considering they are 2 months old with about 2000klms on them, no gutter rash in PC and cost $3300.....I'd say I'll be asking about $2750(ish) negotiable if anyones interested, will be up for sale in about 3 weeks!

Just a few more little mods, got some trim done. The lower door trims, lower part of dash/glovebox around onto the console and finishing to the trim point, didn't want to go all the way along otherwise it looks like I just bought Monaro trims, also did the console bin lid all in red suede(excuse the dirty workshop dust on the interior). The suede is a slightly different colour which doesn't look too bad for a slight constrast, but I'm now thinking I might retrim the seats with some of the suede as it looks good. Also got a SS sedan lower grille for the bumper, looks much better now and more properly finished! I tried on a mates GTO rims, don't look too bad, but look like 17s not 18s...and the stockos with the redwalls in the last pics!!

Booked in at PowerTorque for the 23rd for the go-fast mods, then off to chase 12s :)

had a few little things done yesterday at PT

had a MAF tune done, so with the exhaust and tune it made 227RWKW, which isn't too bad....needs some form of CAI to benefit 100% from the tune I reckon, waiting on more OTR's and the MAFless tunes to be a bit more mainstream and tunable. Then I'll be back....

Also did the 3.9 gears, changes alot better now and pulls a decent chirp/slide into 2nd now which is nice!!

Car feels really good with just some basic mods.....

be out at the track hoping for a 12 on the stocko 18s next wednesday!!!

nah mate, they are about to be put back on to race at Willowbank and they'll stay on for a while, the 20s are for sale, the 18s will stay for hard driving and racing etc, and I'll get some other aftermarket rims once the 20s sell!

Thanks for the comments guys!

Yeah I'm happy with it, the 4in MAF pipe wouldn't fit, I was going to do that and the 2 hole mod....would've added another 10kw or so I reckon maybe.

Now I'll wait for the OTR and MAFless....might hit up around 240-250 with those extras once they are available!

Fantastic looking ute! I have a VYII ute and have also had some similar exterior mods done to the rear end but they didn't do a very good job so I've been looking for someone else to do it properly. I'm just wondering where you got yours done, the paintwork looks very impressive. I will be in Qld later this year so would love to get it done while I'm there....

Mafless tune is tunable. What do you mean? I have been running Mafless tune for months now with no problems.

Mafless tune is tunable. What do you mean? I have been running Mafless tune for months now with no problems.

PT told me they weren't 100% comfortable doing a MAFless on these yet, said that the car wouldn't be 100% perfect and would have a few very minor issues while driving, under light acceleration etc as they couldn't do the tune properly.

I have no idea, I'm a novice with these things....turbo 4s and rotors I know my stuff....so I can only go by what I'm told with these!

They didn't have any OTRs anyway, and if I was doing MAFless I'd want an OTR, so when they have more I might re-do the tune aswell.

on the 20s, no probs, on the 18s the cats scrape occasionaly depending how high the speed bumps are...but it isn't too bad, just nicks them not huge scrapes

WOW. That's looking great mate!!!

Did you by chance ever own an R100.

The same R100 that shut a very cocky nissan GTiR pulsar up on the M1

That thing was amazing....

BEWARE
12-09-2006, 09:41 AM
yeah I owned the R100.....what GTiR would that have been, refresh my memory!

Good days in the R1, but its nice to have something newer now....however I am searching for another old skool RX of some variety!

NiSSAN_GTiR
12-09-2006, 11:36 AM
I have a White GTiR with bronze TE37's. NSW plates at the time????

There was a Series 6, yourself, and me in three lanes on the M1 on a sunday arvo near dreamworld, we wasted the series 6, but you put around 4 car length's on me, i gave you a thumbs up. I'm guessing it was a ten second car?

It was MINT. If you don't mind me asking... what did the lucky buyer pay for the rotor?

BEWARE
12-09-2006, 02:01 PM
ah yeah I remember, the series 6 was pretty stock apart from exhaust and filters, I would have been on the street tune(14psi), which was still good for a 10.7@126mph!

The R100 went north(Townsville), he got a pretty good deal, as I was defected on what was to be the last cruise down the coast and it was taken off the road and de-regoed, so I just let it go as I was finished with it and had done and acheived everything I wanted to...at about $24k its still not terribly cheap, about $2k less than what I wanted at the time due to the hassle with re-registering it and clearing the defects! Its back down at my mechanics getting a check-up before Jamboree....so it will be good to see it again, and hopefully it will dip into the 9s!

are you getting a ute now?

The R100 went north(Townsville), he got a pretty good deal, as I was defected on what was to be the last cruise down the coast and it was taken off the road and de-regoed, so I just let it go as I was finished with it and had done and acheived everything I wanted to...at about $24k its still not terribly cheap, about $2k less than what I wanted at the time due to the hassle with re-registering it and clearing the defects! Its back down at my mechanics getting a check-up before Jamboree....so it will be good to see it again, and hopefully it will dip into the 9s!

are you getting a ute now?

Yeah i'm after something that's LS1 powered, and pre modified for driving around ad towing the toys. There isn't heaps in QLD atm. Or maybe i'm looking in the wrong places.

The GTiR is off the road, it's going to be a weekend/track car.
It's getting a PAR gear set and a few other goodies. We're winding it upto 18psi and shooting for 11's.

I'll be in a corporate box at the Jamboree.... can't wait to see the R100 either!

Can't beleive it went for under 30k

BEWARE
12-09-2006, 10:00 PM
yeah I always had $25k in mind....

If it was in Sydney, I reckon I could have sold it for $30k 10 times over in the 1st week I advertised it, not enough interest when in QLD unfortunately and people in NSW can't be stuffed with the interstate stuff.

wicked..Good to see the potential realised in a classy, sorta smooth appearance...I've just recieved my quicksilver 6.0 lt thunder on sat cat back system and lovells springs were in by 3o'clock that arvo....did you have any troubles with fitting tri y extractors etc?? i have taken the system off my VYSS to put on my VZ 6.0 lt.. the only drama appears to be the extra O2 sensors behind the cats(same place as vy ones were but different cat location.)All i'm getting is BS re twin 2.5" too small, will need edit or will throw codes if i extend trailing O2 sensor wires, yadda yadda....any input would be appreciated........regards

Keep it up I will watch this thread to see what you do next.

The stereo consists all Alpine gear, the touch-screen 7in dvd unit, Type R 10in, Type X splits, mono d class amp and 4ch amp plus install I got for just over $4k, but I know the owner of Northfield Moorooka pretty well!

had the ute out at QR last week aswell, first time on a race track for me, and surprisingly the ute did really well...some half decent times, no real issues, loved the auto for the track which I thought would be its downfall...and no spins or dirt runs....great fun!

Just a few pics with the new wheels on it, some Intro billets...I put these up in the ute gallery, but seeing as some of you brought this thread back to life, I may aswell chuck them in here too!

thanks for the feedback guys, after being at the Nats on the weekend, the rear is getting reset and going a little lower, needs to be tuckin a bit more tyre!!!

Thinking about a clubby front bar too, maybe the SVE one, not sure yet!

Dogsballs, I don't like chrome on utes either, thats why I went with polished billets, they look nothing like some cheap chromies!!!

thanks, but not a great deal more to be done actually, I'm feeling the need for old skool again, so another old project may be on the cards. Have pretty much done all I want to the ute with the inside, outside and performance...good enough for a daily!

Thinking about offloading the billets sometime soon.....maybe, not 100% sure yet....they'd look tops on a silver Clubby ;)

still deciding if I want to make a full on resto/mod project out of the oval, or just go rat, or maybe rat with a hypo motor and sacked on its guts.....dunno.

Got a photoshoot for the ute today, not 100% sure what for, not a magazine though, the guy who shot the R100 for Fast Fours approached me, so we'll see how they turn out and what its for.

Will post some in here when I get some off him!

Jase, that would be ideal with the '55, as is ratty, narrowed and dropped hard with a decent HP turbo donk!!:driving:

As for the shoot, it was for a mobile company wanting nice holdens for a dowload catalogue so people can buy pictures and dowload them to there phones, like you see in the magazines etc, but for in NZ. Should turn out nice, I'll chuck some up when I get some.

As for sound files, I don't have any, it doesn't sound overly special, for some reason I prefer the sound of every other ute/sedan I see, maybe thats because I can't hear mine from the outside.....but I'm happy with mine.
