well I bit the bullet the other day and finally bought the genuine holden bluetooth phone kit, I was impressed by how simple it is to install (if your car is standard) I have currently invested about 6 hours into this install and have a car that im driving around in pieces. Started the install on tuesday night, plugged everything in and went the find the phone plug in the wiring loom only to find out that it had been cut completly off by the previous owner:flamin: any way went to a wreaker last night to pick one up and the guy over the counter says to me that he does'nt know anything about them and proceeded to tell me that no such thing exists after I explain what they are and where they are located. I finally get one after I have to take him out to his yard and show him where they are.
Get home wire it in, and thought i would test it, so I get my standard radio from the car (currently running after market cd tuner and in dash dvd) and plug it in works a treat, a little echoy but apart from that excellent. any way re wire it to the aftermarket radio and the the thing wont mute, I have spent probably 3 hours trying to work out why. then to top it all off whilst i was sitting in the car thinking about the install with the ignition on only the srs alarm goes off and wont turn off, I think the battery volts is getting a bit low and turn the car over, this doesnt fix the problem so its off to the local holden dealer tomorrow for a tech 2 to determine what is wrong, im hoping it is just a connection that I have bumped. I checked the fuse and that is fine.

so here I am what should be approx a 1 hour install turning into a 6 hour, a car in pieces and my air bags that are faulty. Ill be glad when all is working though

oh and I have to get this all fixed before monday as I go in to get my defect off for my car being too low from 3 weeks ago
sorry for the long rave but had to get that off my chest
at least I get my monaro bonnet on tomorrow hopfully that will chear me up.

Might pay to take your car to a trusted Auto Electrican and get him to give you a hand mate. Sure its going to cost, but better than damaging something when your tinkering around in sturborness trying to MAKE THE F&(KIN THING WORK :cussing: :cussing:

Good luck with it mate.

The genuine Holden Bluetooth kit is only good with the genuine stereo that comes with the car. If your going to hook it up to an after market stereo, then you will need a separate speaker for it.

Thats what I was thinking, I may try to splice into the from speakers of the car, my main goal is to have the sterio mute when there is a call, the sterio does have the function and I have the correct wire, but I have read the wiring diagram and the worked out what connecter the mute function is on but it no luck, maybe wasnt thinking straight at 11:30pm in on the drive way in the dark whilst it was raining:doh:

I think that you have done well to get this far. I didn't think that the Holden Bluetooth kit worked unless you had a VZ with stock radio. Personally, I just paid the dealer to put mine in. Much less hassle.

VY and VZ will only work correctly, with all functions, through the original stereo. Holden has a bulletin also saying that if the original stereos are replaced by aftermarket, many of the instrument cluster window programmable options will no longer function, as it's part of a can bus or something like that....

VY and VZ same kit, I hope that they didnt charge too much, its only 6 screws and an hour work if your lucky, reading instructions, cleaning up and lunch break, its plug and play really simple if you have a standard sterio. one wiring loom, plug one plug into phone button supplied, unplug power windows and plug the bridging plug into that (as if you were splicing the wires, I asume thats where the power is coming from) the other plug plugs into the factory phone plug located in the passenger side center footwell. plug the remaining plug into the black box and plug the micophone in the other side and done, I just jumped in my car then and realised I had my parkers on, turned them off and the radio went silent, guess I have the mute wire on the illumination wire (third wire tried) back to the drawing board. :stupid:

How much is the kit? Does it work in the pre-VY/VZ - e.g. in a stock VX.

I was thinking about changing my stock unit, but I was going to loose the output to the main speakers. I was told by the stereo experts that an external speaker would be needed. So I decided not to go ahead. But, Pioneer have now released a unit which is Bluetooth Enabled. No need to get the Holden unit. Would be cheaper to upgrade your stereo and a Bluetooth kit is included.

Personally I would not bother with original Holden bluetooth kit. I have a "Supertooth" kit in my VZ SS which works great. Only cost $180.00 (plus $15.00 for Holden wiring adapter/plug) and about 1 hour for myself to install.
All very simple to install and a neat looking control pad you can mount on the dash / console. Stereo mute and "voice in" etc all works as per normal as it would with a Holden kit at about 1/2 the price (or less).

The main benefit of the factory Holden bluetooth is that you don't have any add on switch blocks or speakers visible, just a factory console switch and the little microphone. There is also readily available information on how the majority of phone models tested, re feedback, echo etc.....

I hear ya mate. It would have taken me 6 hours to find the loom. Thats why tradesmen get all my business. I look at it as demarkation if I try and do what someone else can be paid to do:)

hi all, thanks for all the advise, jut a quick update, I got my monaro bonnet on on the weekend I think it looks great, I got my defect off today so I have the green light to put my super lows back in and put my HID lights in. I worked on my bluetooth on the weekend. The stereo now mutes perfectlly and I have have bought a 40watt amplifer from JayCar to wire in from the speaker wires to the drivers fron door, I had this working on the week end but ran out of time and day light to hard wire in the ampliefer, this is only the size of a matchbox. So all in all Im pretty happy. Oh and my SRS warning was just me knocking a wire which set it off, I got it tech 2ed on the weekend the guy said it was an old fault code and it had righted itself so he cleared it and it hasnt come back. The reason I went for the genuine bluetooth kit was to make it look factory without having another set of buttons. the kit will only fit VY onwards and cost me $440 inc for the whole kit including to blankoff buttons and the 4 hole console panel.
I hate giving my money to a tradie or a company when I can do the install my self. to me thats half the fun and satifaction of modifying your car. My dad owned his own business as a mechanic so I am pretty mechanically minded. I still get someone to do the full service on my car as I dont have the time to do it myself I have found a holden dealer that I can trust.

Toddler,

you may have already fixed the bluetooth but did you connect it into the ph plug on your stereo and turn that function on?

Some have to be activated

Could someone that has the kit put a photo up of it, and may be one of a installed jobbie. I am thinking about putting one of these in mine.

Cheers
