About 1 hour ago i was driving with some friends in the car, they were egging me on. The roads were wet. I did a wheelie around a corner. I got some opposite lock, as you do. I did not fully estimate the bend on this road and then rammed my front left wheel straight into the gutter. Now that wheels has a nice gutter rash around the whole circumfrence of the rim. My camber is F***ed! The whole car pulls left now. In a few hours i will take my car to tyrepower and get them to look at it, hopefully its only camber, and nothing more serious. I am just thankful i didnt mount the curb of i would have gone straight into the pole (not at great speed, but still scary none the less). Im just glad the wheel is the only thing that got wrecked, and that it wasnt serious.

I have learnt a big lesson, i will never do that on a public street again.

Most likely bent the "Z' bar (castor bar). Hopefully not much worse than that. Fair chance you'll spot a rim on ebay if you use it.
Otherwise, it sounds like you appreciate the reason for this damage, and have learnt from it.

ive been there too, caused 7 grand damage to my mums VT 3 years ago. it will make you a better driver mate trust me. being young also, all of my mates including myself since gettimg their p's have either had an accident or a big fine for driving like f-witts, and they dont drive like that anymore. the ones that havnt still drive like f-witts!

Glad to see you have already learnt, but every1 needs an incident like this when their young IMHO.

Let us know the extent of the damage and fibgers crossed.

Ay least you can admit you were wrong. You sound like you've learnt from your mistake. You got away with it but it will make you a better driver for not much of a cost

yes definately couldve been worse for ya, especially if you had mounted the pole and injured your mates onboard because your the one responsible - ive seen it happen, the driver walks away unscathed but the passengers dont, not only does the driver suffer the rest of his life for injuring his mates but theres also the legal side of it. Something you dont want is to paralyse a mate because you have to live with it the rest of your life, had you not acted like a gerk he would still be able to walk.

The best spot to carry on is a skid pan, thats where you learn just how easy it is to upset the car and how hard it can be to correct it, except on a skid pan you tend to end up somewhere in the middle of a flat concrete pan rather then up and over a gutter, around a pole, through someones front wall of there house ...

Thats what I do to get it out of my system. As for my mates trying to egg me on they can get fked and Ive always told them that. When they fork out most of their pay each week for the car then I'm happy to trash it, but while I'm paying most of my wage to pay it off and keep it running each week then it stays on the gentle side. Funny though, my mates who have just brought brand new cars or spent $20 000 + are never the ones who try to get me to do stupid things! I suppose because they realise they'd hate for anything to happen to there pride and joy.

Plus I dont want to have to claim insurance because I want to be able to afford insurance on hopefully a VF SS (whatever comes after the VE) in a few years time, and an insurance claim for being a gerk would hurt in the future.

A lesson learnt - fortunately, not as bad as it could have been, is better than no lesson learnt at all.

Good luck with the repair and take care. Life can and does often end in the blink of an eye.

cheers,

Macca

im a little annoyed at the wheel, not because its damaged, because i dont like the wheels, but becase a few days ago i put them on ebay, so now no one will want to buy the wheels off me. I was planing on getting vx clubby r8 wheels, so the scraches, for now, dont bother me.

A lesson well learn't, i did a similar thing when i had my VL when i was 18, except it was around a round about, car full of pissed mates egging me on (i was designated driver), hit it too hard and tailed out left into the gutter, bye bye rim (still got it as a reminder) and bye bye diff, and never drove the same, count yourself lucky.....and give yaself a

I slapped a curb, I was giving it a bootful but not even around a corner:rolleyes: . Long story short 10 thousand buck bill. Pretty expensive lesson, I thought it was just 2 rims till changed 2 spare tyres and the front wheel didnt look right. Ended up replacing the majority of front suspension plus some of the rear aswell as wheels and tyres:errr: . Thank god for insurance!

Im really praying that its just 100 bucks for an allignment etc. i noticed wen going over a pothole it doesn absorb the impact as well on that wheel, it just thumps. Oh well we will find out tomorrow morning.

For those interested i was doing about 50kmh, and hit the curb 100% impact only the rim (lucky it was only the rim, because it just scapes, if the tyre grabbed the gutter i would have mounted it for sure) at about 30 degree angle to the gutter.

When you get the bill for damages, keep it in the car. Next time one of your so called 'buddies' eggs you on.... pull out the bill, show it to them and say no thanks, I don't want to go thru this again.

A pat on the back for realising it's your fault. Not many people will admit fault and try to shift the blame onto their car, the weather or some other lame excuse.:)

I have learnt a big lesson, i will never do that on a public street again.

I was driving to lunch today at about 1:30pm along Ferntree Gully Rd heading toward Stud Rd. Opposite bunnings was a white VN Commodore, the front half to the right of the pole, the rear to the left. Looking at the state of the metal, I doubt if the driver survived, let alone any passengers.

Be thankful you learnt a lesson the easier way and lived to tell the story. Others don't even get that chance.

Cheers,
Steve

it cost 55 dollars to get the wheel back in the right place and on the right angle. i will spend another 100 or so getting my front bumper refitted tomorrow at ftgholden. The wheel feels buckled when i drive along, but who cares, i will be putting clubsport r8 wheels on next week (hopefully).

i got my front bar re fitted from ftg holden the other day - $45.
the only thing wrong with the car now is the wheel that was hit is unbalanced, but ill be chucking the vxr8 wheels on wednesday, so all should be good.
