Holden replacement pistons & rings for stock bore LS2 have different part numbers to stock.
Hmmm. Is that an acknowledgement of a known problem with the factory parts or what?

Sounds like an acknowledgement that the replacement pistons and rings have different part numbers to the stock ones......

Back when I was a whelp and made clutchplates for Repco Clutch co. we used to run batches down the line and they got four different sets of facings and rivets, stamps etc.

The first set down was OEM and went in big crates to go in cars on the line. The second set were usually identical except sometimes with different part no. stamp and went in Holden/Ford/Nissan/Toyota genuine spares boxes. Then came clutches made for Goodrich or export companies in white boxes i.e. not Repco and lastly Repco clutches with Repco rivets and in Repco boxes.

Needless to say balance and release spec was most rigorous for OEM and OEM parts. Then Repco, then third party clutches.

Repco plates got better facings, especially than the Nipponese stuff. They used those completely shit white Akebono facings like powderised cardboard. I remember when Sigma Scorpions with the 5-speed came out, dealers were fitting Repco clutches in pre-delivery because of bad warranty shudder problems with Akes and Mitsubishi had to threaten dealers with franchise loss to get them to stop, as it involved loss of face for the Japanese.

When we made clutches for Holdens with Opel 4-speeds, the HR-HK version got a different stamp and paint dob than the identical Torana ones - and Torana ones cost $4 more at $33 ea!

Don't ask me why they do this - it can just be the stupidest reasons. Sometimes it's just so their internal inventory tracking systems don't show factory assembly stock as replacement spares. Nowadays they don't even get shipped to the same place.
