I went down to the local workshop today where may mate works to get my tyres rotated on the rims. His boss refused to do them as they were too worn and said i'd need a new set of tyres. After 10 000kms! Any ways while i'm sorting this out my mate call Pedders to find iut how much for caster camber kits. Not so bad 90 bucks. They give him the standard height and tell him to measure the car as if it is over 40mm lowered the kits wont do squat. Turns out according to pedders my car is 67MM lowered in the rear!!!
Now here is the dilemma. My insurance company say my car cannot be lowered by more than 30 mm. So i might have to raise the Barge to legal height and throw in a camber kit(Bye Bye Handling) to make the car "practical". Might as well sell it!
Godamn rules!!!

I dont get it. Lowering a car makes it more stable so safer?
Why hit us with higher premium or refuse to insure for a car that's safer ?
Another case of blind us with their brilliance ? More like baffle us with bullsh1t.

Lowering a car with super stiff springs will actually make it less stable under many normal driving conditions.... (eg. wet conditions, uneven surfaces)

Surely you know by now - Only Hoons and people who break the law lower cars so you must be a threat to society, after all you drive a V8 so you must be a Hoon.

Yup .. the 'ole Holden FE2 suspension .. old school lowered(?) heavy springs and shocks. Makes handling on smooth surfaces great. Makes handling on uneven surfaces interesting. Makes handling on uneven surfaces, going around corners in the wet scary. Sometimes driving in the country in the rain I wish I had my AU. At least it has some finesse to the steering/suspension ..
I assume if you actually want something "good" you'd clone a HSV setup?

Quite true, I have that problem with my VR, its dropped 50mm on Pedders suspension and it bumbs and jumps everywhere. This does cause problems with the girls though, I personally love feeling the road, but get a chick in your car and they complain about feeling sick from all the bumps. Now this is probably because I live out in the sticks and our government doesnt seem to have ROADS in their budget, but still it gets bumpy.

Just "lowering" a car does NOT necessarily mean it will handle better.

I refuse to try to work out insurance companies, akin to trying to work out women and how they think, it just plain AINT going to happen, EVER...
do't know how I can go from Suncorp to AAMI and drop half price for comp insurance, for same car, with same mods, except AAMI insure for a $3k HIGHER market value??? what the? (Mind you, I'd NEVER be insured by AAMI for another 5 years, if I had purchased a V8... go figure...)

I dunno. I didn't notice mine perform any worse going around uneven surfaces in the wet after I lowered it.
But as for scary wet corners, check this out... http://www.jumpingpixels.com/dangercurve.html :errr:

Someone might as well of died if it means i'll sell my car!
I never said "lowering equals handling" but my current setup is awesome . The car is so smooth on the road and doesn't bump and crunch like my old live axle VN. With the IRS on a lean in the rear it seems to hang on like sh@t to a blanket. Just ask a few of the guys from the last cruise.
Anyways thanks for the input guys. I'm gunna go put FE2 springs back in the ass end. see how crap it looks.....:bawl:

It won't matter what insurance company you use if the car is deemed unroadworthy by law, the first thing an insurance assessor does when eyeballing a damaged car is look for ways to get out of paying you :deal:
Slamming a car on its guts seems to be the look these days and does have merits in lowering the centre of gravity but the main reason there are minimum ground clearance rules is to maintain some usable amount of suspension travel, if your car is sitting on the bump stops during some spirited cornering what happens when you hit a hole or rise in the road surface?
You might be surprised but lifting the car to a more legal height and fitting a properly sorted spring and shock/damper package will actually make the car ride and handle better :yup:
