I own a 03 vy ss sedan, its been lowered using the origional springs at the front and using king springs at the back... im not sure how much the car has been lowered exactly but it is very harsh and i can feel every little bump... i also have 19" senator sigs on my car which doesnt help with the low profile and all.

i wanna overhaul my suspension but was unsure of what to get? I want to be able to adjust the height of my car for shows ect but have the drive for everyday alot smoother... what do people recommend and what prices am i looking at..

someone point me in the right direction

I have FE2 and 18's, and same deal, feels harsh as... VERY rough ride, but apparently this is normal...

Trying to determine whether its cost effective to keep the "stronger" suspension, or fork out for a more comfortable, but possibly less quality ride...

its just that i feel as if the suspension is coping a pinding and im thinking to myself this is to harsh and cant be good for the suspenison. so i think i might go with airbag suspension

I lowered mine with King's superlows and put KYB short body shocks on rear and Dura sport short body on front (KYB don't yet have fronts that suit VZ). There is a small gutter coming out of work onto the highway that FE2 (I've had 3) really thumps over but the new set-up is less harsh. Definitely worth changing from FE2. I think street price for the KYB/Dura combo is about $450 - $500, although not sure as I got them through work.

Ive had a similar problem with an FE2 VT wagon and have now noticed the same on an FE2 VY Berlina wagon Im about to pick up tomorrow. That is harshness of ride, although both have/had high Kms.

I'll keep you updated as to what happens with it suspension wise as Im definitely going to do something soon about it as it too feels like the shocks are going to be a hood ornament quite soon.I'm beginning to think that the high end(koni/bilsteins) short body shocks may be the only way to go.

I may go Koni adjustables so that I dont have to go removing the damned things to soften them if they are still too harsh as might happen with Bilsteins. From all reports Bilsteins shouldnt give this problem but I well remember a red VL group A I had which had Bilsteins and wasnt exaclty a smooth ride either.

What I cant work out is why no one offers progressive rate springs for commodes.Perhaps its just not possible engineering-wise.I think someone(whiteline from memory)mentioned that retention of the spring becomes a problem with progressives.Im assuming thats what spring capture means as this was the term given to me.

King's have a web page about progressive springs which initially gives the impression that their springs all are, until you get to the bit about not for all vehicles - see http://www.kingsprings.com.au/king_springs_info_progressive_rate.htm

However, when I look at the latest catalogue it says shaded part numbers are progressive rate design and all the Commodore ones are shaded. Are you sure nobody offers progressive rate springs for Commodes?

Cant be positive Wonky.

But if I find different I'll let you know.

Going to a suspension/tyre outlet today.Hopefully they will know something.

I find it facinating that there isnt a majority that are happy with one type of setup.

Does that say more about the product, the cost of the product or the differing attitude to suspension ride quality.

I think as we get older the more we want BMW type ride in preference to the "slammed" or "nearly slammed" look.

Cant stand it myself.

But there you go right there. Some people just love it to death!

You may well be right Wonky.

Quote from that Kings link you supplied.

"With Kings Performance Progressive Rate Coil Springs, spring entrapment problems are now often solved with substantial spring rate increases and ride height decreases available."

However they do say "often",not always!!!
