Hi All,
I'm seriously considering this mod to my ls1 ss ute...

just wanting to know who out there has it and what do you think of it??

i can get the complete kit for $360 and fit it myself. Powerbond claim up to 22rwkws. Not bad for $360 bucks... here's a link...

I have fitted many of these balancers, you dont need the full kit, just the belts and the balancer,i dont know bout picking up 22kw's though the engine revs up quicker, not a bad little mod, just dont expect huge gains, there is,but only a little :)

I have a dyno sheet with a 12.6 rwkw gain on file, but Im not allowed to post pic's here for some reason?

Sorry maybe I'll be able to one day.

PS always keep your eyes on ebay to Underdrives, thats where the cheap ones hide.

3-4rwkw was a good guide as was said. The engine will rev up nice and quick though (great for the drags etc and a great street launch), just like Sonny mentioned.

Your gains, so there was no tune tweak between the balancer being off and on? same day? strpped by the same operator and run up the same?

I got 7 rwkw gain from one on my boss 290, on my mainline dyno, left the car strapped to it while it was changed over, so there was no difference to strapping, same ramp rate and 3 runs each way to confirm results

nice gain for a bolt on !. We like to do the same method with testing when we do bolt-ons, except exhuasts of course :)
We have done several LSX FAST intake manifolds now while still strapped to the dyno on the same day with 7 to 8kw gains every time. (dyno dynamics)

fitted two other week noticable difference. i paid 315 delivered for balancer, 4 pully tensioners, 2 belts. off ebay viski_fab i think was the name of the seller.

takes probably 2hrs if you can swing a spanner, that pulling radiator out and back in and running.

hardest part was putting new balancer on with out the right tool

So for someone that uses their car on the street 99% of the time, are UDP's worth it?

Is the slight loss of powersteering that noticable?
Thats my main concern i guess.
Dont really care about the aircon. Mid setting is fine for me.

My own car suffered no loss of altenator charge, air con or power steering assistance with the underdrive pulleys, but it is not an LS1.

If you are concerened about these losses, you could have your tuner bump up your idle by about 175 rpm to get your accessories back to normal speed at idle

Agreed totally :goodjob:
Good post but no one i have heard of has ever noticed a difference in the accessories so no need to worry.
Cheers,

I have a 230+ cammed idling at 750 rpm ls1 with a good tune initally i Did suffer from alternator charge problems. When the headlights were on it would idle weird and try to stall. I had to adjust the injector vs voltage offset to over come it. but now it is fine
