View Full Version : 2006 VZ Crewman S
G'day everybody. New to this forum thing. Just thought I'd let you all know that my crewman which is less than 12 months old and done 15000km had it's diff replaced at the service. Now the new one which has done about 1500km is to be replaced too. With the VE due out soon, you'd think Holden would do a recall and replace the lot with a new version. The car does extactly what I bought it for except for the diff problem. Oh yes, if you have "service change oil" come up, I'm told it requires the computer to be upgraded, again I'll have that fixed when they replace the diff at their expense.

Gidday Mal, welcome :)
there may be a small number of vehicles with the same problem so it doesnt warrant replacing the same part in every vehicle that was built. My guess is the fault cannot be identified until it is in use (if it is a recurring thing)
Not sure what VE has to do with it because I dont think there will be a VE Crewman and if there is it wont be untill late 2007/08
The service change thing is a known "fault" that takes a few minutes to fix.

Mate buying anything new you can run into small problems, consider yourself lucky so many have had to get new engines, transmissions etc. Diff change takes couple of hrs :D
Thats what warrenty is for :D

My father-in-law's VY Crewman had it's diff replaced this week - noisy rear end. Apparently this is quite common on them from what the dealer told him. They put in a reco/rebuilt diff he has a regular Crewman so it is a non-LSD diff.

My VZ Thunder Crewman has got 1400 K's on it, is 1 month old and the diff has been whining since the 500 K/2 week mark.
Needs some 3.9's in it anyway.

Virtually everyone of their live axle diffs have noise, it's whether they crap themselves or not.

My X8 with 55,000km has a noise which starts about 60km/h and stops (or is drowned out by road/exhaust noise) at about 80km/h. First reported to Holden at 30,000km from memory ("within specs, keep an eye on it"). Was in at around 50,000km for airbag recall and mentioned again ("it's just wind noise from the roofracks"). I'm trying to kill it before warranty expires...

Call it all part of Holden's AWD "pilot programe". There are a few problems with some diff and transfer case noises but they are put right no questions asked. My Cross 6 had a transfer case replaced at 1000km and the rear springs squeaked which was fixed also. That all done I find its a great driver and very capable on and off road. In fact I cruised through a boggy building site today with ease and the client I had to see wouldnt take his Defender where I drove and commented he felt ripped for spending the dollars on his vehicle when he would rather have had something like mine. So I sold it to him :yup:

I cane the shit out of the VZ Avalanche:burnout:, and with just over 20,000kms - there is not a problem to be seen:woohoo: . Not to drag up an old issue, but might be the difference between Holden and HSV??:stick:
Pretty sure that AVALANCHE has had no problems either and I think his has over 50,000kms.

Might be a live axle versus IRS issue methinks
And yeah, my leaf springs squeak like mo-fo's too.

If it's an "avalanche" wagon, you have IRS. If its an "avalanche xuv" crewman, you have the same live axle.

Take it in, there is a "Tech line" fix where they put spacers in the rear leaf springs. Fixes it pronto :)

I had that done and it lasted 2 weeks.
