View Full Version : Worst Holden Model Name - Your Opinion!

BarneyG

Holden Australia have had many interesting model names for their cars over the years but this one in particular stands out for me:

PIAZZA - Everytime I here it I think off Pizza:banana:

2nd Worst would have to be: Zafira ----> WTF does that mean?:weirdo:

Lets hope names like these die forever.:p

"Adventra", only because no-one seems to be able to pronounce or spell it properly (it's Adventra, not Adventura :)).

Piazza is pretty bad too.

Never been a big fan of Equipe either.

Cheers,

Cruze - when I think of a car that is a 'cruiser', I think of something big and comfy, with a big engine and lots of luxury gear, good sound system, etc. Not a Suzuki Ignis with AWD that looks awfully prone to falling over around corners.

Scurry wasn't a great name, but at least it suited the car. Tiny little van, tiny little engine, scurries about the place.

Berlina has always struck me as a little weird as it is the Italian word for sedan. Berlina Wagon, therefore...

FunkyPig
10-07-2006, 05:33 PM
The question was 'worst name' not 'worst car'. So saying Camira and Sunbird isn't really fair as the cars were terribly built piles of crap.

Adventra for sure. Usually it's the Japanese making up these kind of stupid words too.

Well I can't say I was too fond of that name either (or Torana) :).

Still, they're both better than the name of my car, which IS in english - "Chaser".

HA!!

You blokes are forgetting 48-215!! The name that was so crook, we invented a nick-name for the car - the FX!!

And what about Standard and Special. What dazzling imagination to think up these gems!!

Names are a lesser issue anyway. The name Brougham was less of a problem than the car itself. Wasn't it was meant to compete with the long wheel base Fairlane? And what was the Brougham? A Premier with a VERY long boot?? Didn't it have the same wheelbase as the Prem??

Opel you say? I could stand the name but many could not stand the Opel 4 speed - they quickly swapped them for an Aussie 4 speed didn't they??

SVZ - So many people confused it with the SV6.

Kingswood - ahhhh, just such a bad name

And I don't think they should call the new base commodore "OMEGA". Whats with taking another cars name on to the end of our carsz name. It's like the Commodore Lumina.

Did they have an Omega Commodore or a Lumina Commodore?

Not quite, it was a clever acronym for the partnership arrangement (or twin business deal) between GM and Izusu.

If you say this fast GMandI you get GManI hence Gemini which just happens to be the "star sign" for the twins

For my mind I also agree with Kart racer "Sunbird". Especially when you consider the awful star fire engine that powered it, the ugly grill and tail lights(not as bad as the Plus 4 Torana grill) and the very fact that it was tacked on to the Torana at the end of the Torana's magnificent racing legacy. Yuk

It could have been worse though, it could have been called a “Sunbirda”

Torana is supposed to be the aboriginal word for 'bird of the sun', or 'bird of fire'.

My other half. Very good car actually, thanks largely to it being Mazda based. Though we recently sold it and bought an Escape.

I didn't think it would take long for this to degenerate into yet another Ford bash thread. Taurus, Ka, Prefect, Probe, who cares - this is about worst HOLDEN names.
