Hi Guys, I've just picked up a sweet Cosmo VYII SS manual and would like some advice on the following. Has anyone ever used Royal Purple oil in their Gen3 and with what results ? What is considered the most popular oil for them ? Are the claims made about SS inductions cold air intakes fact or fiction ? It seems there are differing reports floating around which have not convinced me to part with $500 as yet. I think a K & N element is the go but am curious as to what else you've tried with induction.
Cheers

Congrats on the new car!!

Can't help you on the oil side of things but SS Reductions has a very poor reputation with most people here. However, the latest incarnation (the Growler) apparently does give some good gains on some cars. There are much cheaper ways to get gains though - just do a search on Growler or SS Inductions/Reductions and you'll find enough info to keep you reading for ages.

Similarly with K&N elements - do a search and again you'll find plenty of info but on the strength of a couple of fairly recent threads it would seem I may have wasted my money on mine.......... :(

I had an ss induction intake fitted a few years ago and that was the old design. since I have tried a variety of intakes and have found power gains but lost fuel economy. The growler system works as well as the the sureflow but if you dont have a maffless tune the other CAI wont fit. In regards to fuel economy (500 + km) and power gain as well (a happy medium) I have found the ss induction the best, and with that induction if you want to take the car to the track just take the the top section off and it will give you the same effect as the growler system.
Thats just only my opinion.

The best answer about oil is to say any oil which meets the manufacturer's standard and changed as recommended or just a bit sooner will work just fine for longer than you are likely to own the car. Buy a good qualiy oil (non-supermarket or plain label brand) in about the recommended viscosity and you're safe.

The decision to save your $500 was a good one! Spend some time searching the forum. Also search on MCAI.

Mate don't waste your money on ANY SS induction crap :p dyno and track test show you actually go backwards etc...

You will already have the MCAI so just do the 2 hole mod, or if you are after a OTR of some sort then sureflow or Orrosom units would be the go with your MAF :p

Do a bit of reading and searching of the forum as lot of this sorta stuff has been bought up before :D
