Let me first state that these figures were achieved at an altitude of 1200m, which mean those figures are roughly 18% less that than one would get at sea level....

The car is an 05 Commodore, 402cu stroker motor, Whippal blower at 1 bar boost, Lunati road/race cam, standard diff(Harrop mounting though), standard gearbox, AP racing brakes, 19 inch wheels, 285 rear "boots".

Figures were acheived with a small dose of NOS.....Impressive figures methinks for a car that can still be used for basic commuting. ;)

Very impressive numbers mate, well done indeed!

Tell me though, how did you fit 285s under them rear guards, and how the f%$k do you get ANY traction at all with 1047nm????? :lmao:

Fitting 285's at the rear wasnt easy, need remove all that plastic inside the rear wheel arches and as you can see in picture 3 had to have the arches slightly flared.....

Well traction isa BIG problem....in accelerating hard in 4th gear one experienced the rather strange phenomenon of wheelspining at 150 km/h....only solution is to shift into 5th.....even then one get a little axle tramp.....;) From a standing start its truly silly, wheelspin in the 1st 3 gears......

Naturally the TC is non-existant.....;) Sadly this car isnt mine but it belongs to a good friend of mine and have spent a lot of time it....240 km/h is achieved in next to no time at all.....

Can't say I've ever experienced that problem (unfortunately!!!!) but hey, it is a problem I'd like to have!!

So tell me, whats the modded car scene like in South Africa?

Well there isnt much modding of V8's here, mainly all Jap rice pudding cars but then again Commodores are rare here.....(yes I actually said that) and the other thing is that much of the mechanical mods need to come from Aus...and with heavy import duty that doesnt make it as accessbale to mod a Holden as it is in Aus.

Add to this there is also a lack of good expert advise, this car was modded by a man I consider to be the SS expert in South Africa, he has a 6.3 liter VX that run 10.78 1/4 and he drives it everyday(its an Auto BTW).

The Utes and sedans we have are only usually modded to the extent of an exhaust and filter, some run UNICHIPS at high altitude to try and counter the fact that the LS1 seems to run very rich at altitude.

That rarity of Commodores does mean that they do attract a great deal of attention. As far as value for money goes, nothing in South Africa can touch them....;)
