Discuss the Calais V here ...

MARTY

Noticed from the official pics Calais V now has front parking sensors. From the pics I think Holden has done a top job, but will have to see one in the flesh to get a proper impresion of how it looks.

Calais door trims seem to be a bit of a mish mash.
Has the nice door tims up front with intergrated grab handles.
But the rear has the flat type.
Only long wheelbase seem to have grab handles at the rear.
Calais looks like it has the hinged little storage area in the door.
Dash is huge improvement.
But i wonder what that huge panel is above the centre air vents?
In the VZ it's a handy little storage area.

Probably storage and then above that toward the windscreen looks like a big centre speaker (see hires closeups - looks like speaker grille mesh)? For those DVDs from the popdown screen?
Speaker (or whatever it is) also looks to be in the Statesman/Caprice too.

Sidey - in your opinion is the boot a similar size to the VZ? (Albeit with more space due to the new hinges?)

Love the DVD player in the roof too - standard on the V?

Cheers,

The boot looks a bit bigger actually .. the car is almost fastback/hatch and the boot is big at the back end.

Calais-V Has DVD Screen in dash and roof, Caprice dash and headrests. Not sure if there is a DVD player in the other models.

I just need to know what is the gearbox configuration, is it a 6speed auto?
My VZ V8 Calais has to go within 6 weeks. Hopefully my dealer will get a V8 Calais-V soon so i can test it and put my order in, lucky work pays for the pertol :headbang: the only reason i always get V8's, will be my 4th Calais.

EDIT
Sorry my bad, just read the front page,
"• GM 6L80E six-speed automatic transmission with Active Select (introduced in the Cadillac
STS-V in the United States) makes its Australian debut as an option in all V8 variants"

Wheres my Cheque book ;)

The bottom of that hinge - is that undercoat? Finally a hinge change, mine get in the way and seem a silly design, let alone cars built for the next 17 years after.

Other than that, these cars are looking awesome! Quite a bit better than my calais :D

The flash accentuates the grilles a bit .. they were not that noticible in the flesh. it's a luxury option vehicle, you don't use your foot on the door liner .. :p

Needs bigger brakes under those 20's (they should have displayed it with the standard wheels anyway).

I can't figure out why Holden resist from introducing split fold rear seats...

20" wheels are stupid. More dollars than sense if you optioned them... Totally impractical, and I'm sure there'll be plenty of owners shocked at the price of 20" tyres when it comes time to replace them. Overall a pretty nice car tho. You can't go too wrong when you borrow heavily from Audi... ;)

Sidey, are the lights in the mirror undersides indicators or illumination for the ground infront of the doors for passengers?? (I suspect the latter).

Nice job making the launch, were Holden kind to the Admin of the country's premiere Holden forum??

few questions come to mind
1st: 8K RPM tacho, no redline ... does it rev all the way to 8?
2nd: climate controls look like standard a/c, above screen used for both climate control & stereo?

and tacho area looks abit plain, the 3 window trip comp on previous models look abit beter in my opinion

Cobalt

All this stuff about tyre prices....

Remember how expensive 17"/18" tyres where till the mainstream manufacturers put them on their cars.... They will get massively cheaper as more cars have them as standard....

Cobalt

Kirium
17-07-2006, 02:26 AM
No-name korean 18/19" tyres are cheap... Go price up some 18" Pirelli's, Contis, Michelins or anything else reputable and you'll find the prices are still pretty high...

I'm wondering where it's going to stop. At some point, wheel sizes are just too big to be practical. Are HSV wheels now going to be 20" standard with 21" optional? What about the VF or whatever is next. Do you want to see 26" wheels standard on commodores, like crap blinged-up Hummers and Escalades? At some stage it just becomes pointless.

1st: there seems to be no redline in the luxury models, no real one anyways. In the Calais V and Caprice there are more little marks beyond arround 6000rpm. I think this is supposed to be the redlinethe statesman doesn't have one. the SS is the only model of the ones already revealed that has a real redline.

2nd: I think it's a climate control, and yes it seems to be displayed in the screen. like falcons icc. I think we will see the the standard a/c today 17.00 in the omega

the 3 window trip computer is still alive, one big window between tacho/speedo, ond 2 small ones in them. SS only has the big one

I would say it's due to the fact that the new chassis does not flex as much as the old one. The old chassis and strut towers used to flex quite a bit as things like the firewall were only glue in place.
After seeing the holes in the towers though, there's a good chance the HSV models may get one.

I read or heard something about the new chassis that went something like..

"It is amazing the difference that replacing a few welds with bolts makes on the chassis strength"

This may be in reference to the glued in portions in the old design I am not sure.

AFAIK the front end on these are not pure McPherson, but Single Lever Arm, meaning the towers anchor the spring and strut, but the bottom end is mounted on a short lateral swingarm. Someone look up under the front?

On closer inspection of the rear screen it appears that this is a self contained DVD player, the DVD player is rearward of the screen and you can see the slot for inserting the dvd in the official pictures.

This leads to the question is the front unit a dvd player or not ?? Being separate units you can watch different vids in the back to the front and I would hazzard a guess that the rear player used the speakers in the rear doors with the front unit using the front doors, tweets and rear shelf speakers.

Kirium
18-07-2006, 05:57 PM
There's an eject button for the rear too.. I can only see a "CD" button for the front HU... I suspect it's not DVD as all other manufacturer head units I can recall that are DVD capable have the DVD logo on them somewhere...

No 3.5mm headphone jacks spotted anywhere in the rear??

I know if I was driving along listening to a CD, I wouldn't want kids in the back watching Nemo (or adults in the back watching pr0n  Like I spotted in a Jeep a few weeks back in Sydney) and having the rear speakers fighting for supremacy... I would have thought headphones would be standard for the rear DVD player... I can't see a jack in any of the official pics, but I cant see a pic of the rear of the console (where the rear air vents are) which is where I would have thought they would be located.

Holden used to have the headphone jacks on the Caprice on the rear parcel shelf speakers - so they could conceivably be anywhere in the new model.

260 watt to 230 watt is academic. The human ear cannot detect such a small change. Going from 260 watt to 130 watt would only just be noticable.

Besides, the figures holden quote would not be R.M.S. so don't go comparing to genuine figures. In reality I doubt they would be any more than around 60 watts. Just my 2c worth.

The Calais is the pick of the bunch in the VE imo, beautiful integrated looking car inside and out with understated sporting theme to match ( going back to the VT-VX days with integrated, smooth performance styling ) those VZ R8 looking wheels look awesome.

I agree with Kirium regarding the practicality of having 20" rims, but its unlikely that they will be driven on rugged roads, key word being unlikely, and 20" tyres and fuel is little to no concern to majority of buyers for such a car.

Its more of a business/executives town car and looks sensational, unlike the SS which is a total let down and looks :spew:

Holden should have optioned the Calais with a 6 speed, good value for a big size luxo.

CalaisV Series electronic park assist uses a combination of audible and visual warnings to simplify parking in tight spaces - the latter displaying both the proximity and direction of potential parking obstacles on the 6.5 inch colour display in the centre console.

Calais only gets rear park assist.

Just like the BMW system so you can see if you are close on the LH or RH sides then.

As the screen can display DVD's (while stationary), there is no reason why it couldn't be adapted fairly easily so that a camera will display on that central screen.

I do like the Calais V - just the resale worries me...

Just wondering what is going on with the chrome strip at the bottom of the doors on the CalaisV ?

Maybe just not a final production version. They do mention the strip in their list:

Exterior highlights: (above Calais) 18-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, chrome lower door molding and deck lid lift handle, V deck lid badge, rain-sensing wipers, front parking sensors (to match the rears), lights in the mirrors to light beside the car on approach, heated exterior mirrors with position memory

Re chrome strips on the Calais V missing: these cars are not the final product, they are unmasked mules, so it is understandable that some finer details on finish may be missing. That's actually a pretty good delivery time for a new car. Plenty of forum members know the horror of 2, 4 or 6 months wait for a car they've ordered ... and that was for established models. I waited 10 weeks for mine only to have it arrive with the wrong engine (EcotecV6) ... another 2 weeks and the right car finally arrived.
Congrats on the order though ... I saw a Calais-V in the flesh yesterday and in my eyes you've made a fantastic choice from the range.

Hmm, when I took a look at a Calais with the DVD player, it looked incredibly tight if u were to option a sunroof. When I questioned the HSV salesman about it, he wasn't sure if u could have them both and after another inspection we both agreed u couldnt fit a sunroof with a DVD. I might be wrong tho but it didnt look like u could fit one with a dvd player. Even the center of the roof had this tunnel type thing down the center stretching from the windscreen..

Well I have ordered a black Calais V with black leather, sat-nav, Holden Assist Ultra and chrome pedals as my new government car.

I went to check out the cars out at Claridge Holden in Adelaide, they have pretty much the whole range on display. They had 2 Berlinas, 2 SS (one each with normal and one each with leather interior), an SV6, an Omega, a Calais V and a SS V.

As for the sun roof and DVD player I seem to remember being told by someone that you can get both, but the sun roof is mounted quite far forward and if you select both they don't put the sunglasses holder in. Not sure if that is right because the sunglasses holder also has the buttons to lock the doors on it.

Does anyone know if the arm rest slides over the cup holders? I just presumed that it was fixed, so didn't bother trying. It would be good if it did as it would look much better with them stored away so to speak.

Holden Assist telematics
Optional on all models, telematics enables vehicles to send and receive data – and have their position pinpointed at any time – via integrated GSM mobile phone network and global positioning satellite technology.

Owners of telematics-equipped vehicles can take advantage of Holden Assist, a subscription-based interactive security system that provides on-board assistance 24/7, based on one of three service levels:

Holden Assist Secure
– If stolen, Holden Assist can locate and track your vehicle, and working with
police, safely immobilise the engine via remote technology.

Holden Assist Ultra
All Secure level features, plus:
– If an airbag is deployed, the system notifies an operator who will attempt
to speak with the driver. If there is no response, emergency services
are notified.
– If keys are locked in the vehicle, an operator can validate the owner’s
identity, then unlock the doors remotely.
– In an emergency, the driver can press the SOS button to speak with
an operator, who will locate the vehicle and send emergency services
if required.
– If roadside assistance is required, on the press of a button the vehicle
is located and assistance despatched.
– If the vehicle battery is low, – the system notifies an operator who will
attempt to speak with the driver.

They have divided what used to be Holden Assist into three seperate levels depending on your needs.

Have it on my current car and is nice to know that if something happens they can do something about it. Plus you get electrochromatic mirrors, which automatically dim in bright light. Which is extremely useful when a 4WD pulls up behind you and shines it's lights right into your mirror.

I am also wondering if anyone has seen one in Evoke Metallic?

I was tossing up between this colour and the black, but wasn't sure what the colour actually looked like as it is hard to gauge the colour properly by the little square and picture in the brochure.

I currently have a VZ Calais in Turbine Mica which looks a nice shade of gray at night, but it is a quite light colour during the day and many people have commented on it being a variety of colours during the day, the most common being green.

That is why I decided on the black as black is black is black, with very little room for interpretation.

They had two other Calais-V's there this morning. One dark blue on with the V8 and a lighter coloured one with the V6.

Doncaster Holden also had one in Red Passion, which looks bloody good.

Great pics Korrupt, gorgeous looking car, dare I say hints of some Euro marques :)

How is business at the dealer? Were cars selling left right and centre? I think the figure I posted not long ago was 294 cars a day to beat Aus wide.

Got to sit in a SSV the other day during work, I wasnt all that impressed by the new sport leather seats, they dont wraparound as well as the previous models.

I did like the Impulse color, they must have added some kind of pearl to it cause the color did flip from blue to purple.

This place was pretty busy. They had some people from Larry Perkin's V8 team there, supposedly Steven Richards was there, but I didn't see him. There looked like there were a few sales going on in each office.

Korrupt, You Bas***d.

I was being good and waiting to see both VE and BF2 in the flesh. I was swinging toward SSV as the power to $$$ ratio is better than a F6. Now you've done it, I get to spend $10k more and buy the car I swore I'd never buy till I was the wrong side of 40. I hope they open a groomer business in my area cause I will need help to keep the black looking like that. I am in love. My wife will never understand, maybe I can tell her it was the only one left, or that it was safer than the rest, or maybe the resale will be higher.

Do you have higher res pics (wedding photos!!!), if so can you send them to badmac @ gmail . com

The Caprice has a lip spoiler as an option..

Lip spoiler - $ 121.00*
Price quoted does not include painting of part.

http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/modelaccessories?aid=21176&&modelid=8000&bitmask=1

Its not listed on the options for the CalaisV (but SS mats?? and spoiler, $600+, are).

I guess it can always be bought from parts and fitted. I think it will finish the rear of a black CalaisV.

Have to say that I agree. I'm not a fan of the spoiler shape on the VE SS. When test driving a VE SS the worst view of the spoiler IMO is from the driver's seat looking in the rear view mirror - to me it looks like a piece of lego. I'm sure others love it - each to their own.

1. Must have a nice glovebox (VE has the shelf etc so she like this - not sure why this is important to be honest?)
2. Nice colours (she loves the Evoke on the Calais-V so still going well) :D

Couldnt agree more about the Calais.

Even the standard model with the 17 inch rims impresses me with the 6.0 its would have to be my favourite car of the range, its got a decent interior (none of that shitty looking woodgrain like the Berlina) and has a very euro look on the outside without the barge spoiler on the boot / body kit.

Mmm, Calais: I just built one up on the Holden website and I have to say it is much better value than the Calais V (for my purposes). Why? Well I'd be doing my own wheels and stereo for a start so that difference doesn't matter. 8 way Vs 6 way adjustable seats - big deal, puddle lamps etc - big deal. Leather trim - easily optioned on the base Calais; LSD diff is available; other little trim bits and pieces - well I'm sure Nick from NVU will have those soon; DVD - meh. I think there was $9k difference between them and that was with leather on the base Calais. Leaves a bit for wheels and stereo etc.

Mrs Alphabug has been stalling getting a new car until the VE was released.

Finally, there we are, around all the dealers in Adelaide and she settles on a Calais-V / V8 / 6 Speed Auto..........

So far, so good, but what colour dear ?

I think I like the Crema Metallic, but it's not available until November...........

And the dealers don't have colour samples yet...............

So there we are, going through all the dealers, out the back sheds looking at Omegas and Berlinas and Calais to get an idea of the colours as she doesn't have much faith in the little picture in the back of the brochure.

Finally she decides on either the Nickel or Sandstorm "I'll decide when we sign up."

OK, So she finally goes in to sign up, and what does the idiot dealer do ????

"Hello Mrs Alphabug, Look, we've got the colour samples in now."

So guess who fell in love with the Crema ?:girl:

Now she's gonna wait until November :flamin: !!!!

A couple of questions.....Given that all the dealers wanted to charge us darn close to RRP, do you think there's going to be any price movement in a downward direction between now and November ? And when a colour isn't available until November, does that mean you can order it in November for a 4 - 6 week build time, or can you order it (4 - 6 weeks) earlier and get it built in November ?

Alphabug.

You should get discounts then as it is normally a quiet time of year for new car sales and you will by then effectively be getting a "one year old" vehicle if you understand what I mean.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma at the moment trying to decide what VE to order.
I have my heart set on a Calais-V, however as good as the 6sp auto is, I cannot bring myself to buy another auto car, and I have always sworn that my next car would be manual no if's no buts.
As much as I like the SSV, I personally prefer class and luxury over sporty and aggressive. So far I have decided on a Nickel Metallic Calais V with Light Urban leather and sunroof.
Now seeing that Holden is pitching the Calais-V at the sports/luxury market and it now shares the SSV's suspension, the question has to be asked why there is no manual option. It can't be that hard surely?
It leaves those wanting a manual V8 with no other option but to buy an SS or SSV. Now don't get me wrong, I love the SSV, but as I said, my heart is set on a Calais-V and nothing much can change that.
SO IF YOU'RE LISTENING HOLDEN, DON'T GIVE US DODGY EXCUSES, GIVE US A MANUAL OPTION ON THE CALAIS-V V8, HOW HARD CAN IT BE?

Yeah, I know what you mean, but the thing is I don't think I will be happy if I did that. This won't be a car that I will be leasing then flogging off in a couple of years, I will be paying cash for it and I am looking at keeping it for a very long time, so I have to be 100% happy with it to aviod any regrets down the track.
My only other option is to buy one second hand and convert it, but that would only be a last resort.
Look at all the older factory manual Calais and how desirable they are now. Holden might think it's only minor, but it
will cost them sales, possibly mine included.
If anyone else is in the same boat maybe we should start bombarding them with emails and demands.

I was thinking about the light urban interior...until I sat down and thought about how dirty it will get very easily, so I went with the black.

I have since been back to the dealership and seen how marked and dirty the carpets and underside of the dash was just from a week or so of people using the car.

I guess it isn't a problem if you are very careful with your dirty shoes etc and don't mind cleaning it all the time...but I am too lazy to do that.

Far out mate.....take it easy

If you took the time to READ my post i was asking a question as the dealer has quoted me those figures for a spare on paper with the dealer letter head, and all i was trying to establish was if the dealer was on the level or was he trying to get some extra cash out of me!

I am by no means new to this game, hence the post to ask for replies from like minded forum contributers that are in the same boat.

This may be strange to a 4 cylinder owner who just cops it from his mates, but the reason we have this forum is to contribute constructive criticism to one another, and help each other out, not get on the case and start yelling!!!!

PS Get a V8 and you will know what all the fuss is about

All the salesman can tell me is that my Calais V will arrive sometime in October. What really pisses me off, is that I've had to initiate all the calls and not once have they called me to tell me what was happening, I was just left guessing. I told them that it had better be available by October 15 (for the Newy cruise) as a 9 week wait for a mainstream car is pretty ordinary!

I'm sure if I purchased through someone like Suttons In would have been in one by now.:(

Yeah, I am being told October 4th for my black Calais V with alloy pedals, tinted windows, sat nav and Holden Assist.

Although mine is through the government so I think it takes about a week extra for the fleet department to take delivery, do all the registration and red tape and then deliver it to me.

Just a bit annoyed that I have to wait all this time after the launch and then it will have to go back to the dealer in only a couple of weeks for them to fit my Holden Assist and Sat Nav. That better not take too long. They tell me they can do it in a day, but I'll believe that when I see it.

Someone took the mirror off my VZ Calais about 2 weeks ago. I duct taped it back on for the weekend and took it to the dealer Monday. They had it all day and when I came to pick it up that night they had just duct taped the mirror back on and told me that they had to take it off to look at the damage, decide that they needed a new one, order one in, send it over the road to the crash devision to have it painted the correct colour, have it send back over the road, get me to bring the car in and then they would need the car in the shop for the entire day again to actually fit it. I was not very impressed.

So here I am, over 2 weeks later, just a couple of weeks away from getting my Calais V, and the mirror is still duct taped on. Hell at this rate they are going to reattach it and then give me the keys to my new car.

I heard from a dealer today that there are delays with supply of the DVD players. Hence the Nov (minimum) timeframes.

Sadly, also more problems with the sat nav - unconfirmed delays till Feb next year!!!! but they will deliver cars without it and dealer fit later.

Bummer, as I have the car, but wanted to get those two options fitted at the next service... better find something else for Santa to leave me.

How do they quickly fit the DVD player into a car like yours? Wouldn't they have to do some work on the roof etc to fit it in?

Man, I'm a bit pissed off if I have to wait that long for my sat nav. But all will be forgiven when they actually fit it and if it is any good.

I know your frustrations Boofhead. When I signed up three weeks ago the dealer was confident he could fill my order by now as my lease is up on the current ride today. He rang me yesterday and told me 6-8 weeks but I'm starting to think maybe even longer by the other posts on here. He was suprised by the lack of supply, if I wanted a Berlina or Calais he said I could take my pick, but the Calais V is a different story, he also said that he has 5 other customers waiting on the V as well. He is going to ring me in four weeks when he says he should know more.:soap:

Enough of that great chioce of colour boofhead!
Did you consider any other colours or was it Red Passion all the way?

Apparently there are two different DVD units, one for a sunroof and one without.

Also the mounts and wiring is all under the roof lining (so I've been told).

Yeah, agree the wait sucks, but all will long be forgotten.

Bit like when I got one of the first VT Clubsports back in '97. They had bad quality control problems with the rear spoilers and had to deliver cars without them and retrofit at the first service... Real hassle then, but after a few months - all forgotten.

Guys - hang in there the wait will be worth it. (says the wanker who doesn't have to wait).

Originally I wanted the Evoke colour, but the better half did not like that in the flesh. Had a Black SS a couple of cars ago so while it looks great clean an issue with the amount it wouldn't get washed

Original order formed showed Impluse but at the last minute change to the Passion as the wife was on the phone last week stating that she had changed her mind again (I don't really mind as while it takes her forever to decide on a colour she loves a car with a bit of grunt - I can live with that!) :bravo:

It was about 3 weeks ago (late august, early sept). The cars a V6 Calais V in black, with light urban. No options, as his lease company sucks and charges him full price for any optional extras, which you lose when you hand the car back in 2 years.

Guys

The MD here at work wants to order a new Calais V for his next company car but is having a hard time choosing wheels. He doesn't want the 20's (not for the roads up there in Nrth Qld), but is having a hell of a time seeing photo's of the calais V with the 19's on them.

Any owners out there that can take a photo for me and post one? Just chasing a calais V with the 10 spoke 19" x 8" wheels and a photo of the calais V with the 5 port 19" x 8" wheels.

Anyone out there that can help? Or if one of you photoshop guru's has a spare 5 minutes that would be great.

Can I get the optional 20" mags? Dealer here (Ebbetts) sold 2 black ones sight unseen, then sold his Nickel one on release day, and some other colour, just bought up a Impulse Calais V from Taupo and sold that this morning as well. No more for a few weeks and next batch are presold.

Could get a Nickel, Impulse or Phantom without LSD quicker, but want Vespers or Passion Red with LSD.

Salesman crying that they've got a yard full of unsold Omegas and plenty of Berlinas - all the high end stuff has sold out nicely but volume not what it could be.

Holden cannot sell the Omegas and the Berlinas as it once did because the competition is so hot at that price level. I know I'd rather buy a nice fuel-economical 2.4 litre Honda Accord Euro at $33k rather then get lumped with a plain-vanilla Omega for that price.

But once you start heading above the $50k price range, Holden has the market cornered. The calais-v is unbeatable for value.

It's frustrating mate, but it will all be worth it and after a few weeks of driving your new VE this delay will be erased from the memory bank.

I told my dealer not to rush the pre-delivery. He knows how fussy I am so he knew it had to be right. The only thing that wasn't done on delivery was the towbar because they were out of stock.

Thanks Fnomna... but how did you know what camera I used! I don't use the Nikon software, I just drag my pictures of the D70 then use photoshop for altering them (which in this case was just resizing). Im going to do some more shots when I get the time, but the Calais had just been washed, so I wanted to get some quick pics while its still brand spanking new.

Yeah the protectors on the front do ruin it, but as part of the novated lease, they have to be fitted... I took the headlight ones off, but felt like I was going to snap the one attatched to the bonnet, so I just let it be.

Some people say there is a green-cast issue with the D70. I only just noticed. Think it had something to do with using the sRGBIIIa profile (landscape-biased) instead of sRGBIa (people/object-biased, D50 & D70s uses this I think) - eg. compared with http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?p=683515#post683515 - but I also use preset white balance too. The car does look brilliant in black... but we have a 400m long drive way, and dust, dust, dust. Even driving 10km/h up it still ruins the wash. We're gonna get shitloads more gravel put down, just to minimise the damage lol. The car got washed twice today, and my Dad's kicking himself that he went with phantom over sandstorm. Hi there. Great photos - well done.
Ghosn hassled me about my front plastic protector too. He was right, it looks heaps better with it off.

It comes off easy. Just unscrew the two screws under the bonnet and the 4 screws on the top. The plastic comes off easy, that leaves 4 clamps that need to be carefully wiggled off. They should have plastic under them to protect the bonnet so there is no scratches. Once you get it off please wrap it in plastic and get ready to post it. Once I find another one, I want to post all three to Ghosn, so he can use them for target practice:bravo:

Thanks for all the feedback guys... makes it worth taking em.

But got a bit of a sad story. Last night I don't know what happened but our Calais engine is absolutely farked! I was just driving along, and pulled up to some lights at an intersection, and the car started vibrating. Sort of like pulsating back and forth, and kind of like what happens when your about to stall a manual. But this was when the car was stopped, and was happening repeatedly... and of course its an auto. Then up on the little display, a engine diagnostic thing came up, it flashed up something about ABS, said something about engine fault, and then said "Check Engine". Shitting myself, I pulled into a servo a couple of hundred metres down the road, and opened her up. I don't know if its related, but on the casing over the engine, one of the 6 bolts is missing and there's just a whole down to the real engine... Also when the car is revving above about 1500 rpm its happy. Just sitting at idle and at very low speeds and revs, it feels like its about to blow up.

Anyway have any ideas as to whats wrong with our one week old car!?

Obviously we'll book her into to be looked at tomorrow.

I would suggest:

1. Moisture in wiring - did you wash the engine since you got it? else maybe from the pre-delivery?
2. Loose wiring on a sensor or similar?

Generally both are a bugger unless you take them the car with the problem ACTUALLY happenning - else all they have is a million codes that dont make sense.

Thanks for that. Yeah, that sounds probable... It was happening after being washed, but it had been washed a few times before hand. I remember we had some little niggles with the VZ and it would do strange things vary rarely, and when we took it in to be serviced they could never find anything wrong with it! Talk about frustrating. Hope this problem isn't a constant reoccurrence, and if so, I hope it will be able to be fixed easily.

The engine bay can handle being wet so I doubt that is your problem. I would suggest it went into "limp home" mode temporarily. If you call into your dealer thay can connect Tech 2 and diagnose if that is the case as it will be stored in the ECU when/if it occurred. Why it occurred is another matter and it may not happen again but worth the check. It may even tell them it has a faulty sensor

Is anyone thinking of lowering their Calais V8??
Ground clearance listed for Calais is 106 and for SS 110??

Didnt think the Calais were lower...

I am waiting on a quote from the dealer for a black Calais V8 with Walkinshaw 20" wheels, springs (25mm lower) and catback.

Now i am a bit worried about getting hung up on speed humps and steep driveways if the Calais already starts lower than a stock SS

Thoughts?
