View Full Version : Might VE Commodore/E-Series HSV overshadow Captiva?

The focus of the press is all VE Commodore at the moment, so could it overshadow the release of Captiva? A similar scenario occurred with Ford, when they released the BA Falcon and the Focus around the same time. Having learnt a lesson, they delayed the Fiesta when Territory was released so it got a bit of attention once the Territory hype died down.

Given the VE's significance - not just to GM Holden, but the large car segment as a whole - could Captiva suffer from a lack of attention to properly launch the new car into the already overcrowded, and shrinking SUV market?

Captiva is due late Aug/early Sept, around the same time as the new HSVs, will will also garner a fair amount of press, particularly if the rumoured power increases are a reality.

I think Captiva's release was pushed back to the end of the year due to engineering problems with RHD, so the VE hype should die down enough by then not to be overshadowed.
BTW, Captiva will be released in the UK in early 2007.

Captiva due November, three months after VE.

If people are criticising Holden now for not improving Commodore's fuel economy, I can just imagine the reception that Holden's new SUV will receive...

BTW, if VE overshadows Captiva it would also overshadow Epica, which would have to be due in the next couple of months as well.

I hope Epica does well, and steals some thunder from Camry and Aurion. Anyone know when Epica is due by the way? Captiva shouldn't be thirsty. Given the added weight of an SUV and a 3.2-litre motor, it shouldn't drink any more than Commodore.

What the hell is an Epica?

I hope they do too.
The latest going around is a replacement for the Pontiac Grand Prix.

Oh it's not that bad. With a Holden badge, it may be enough to knock Toyota out of the #1 spot. Epica is very classy, and it could eat Camrys and Aurions for breakfast.

Bring back the ZC Vectra. That has a lovely shape and is a wonderful car to drive. The v6 especially.

Yeah, they should bring back the ZC, as a premium addition to Epica.
The updated Vectra carries the AH Astra look, as does the new Euro Barina.

My parents own a ZC....apart from the engine, most other things are poorly designed or poorly executed. They bought it on the strength of how good my TS Astra was, thinking another Opel product would be good, and they have been extremely disappointed.
