I know of a bloke in that area who will go to you, but I don't have his card on me. I'll put his number up here when I get home from work ...

damn ... I can't edit my message!

Anyways, I did have his number on me.

0412 172 467 ... his name is Cameron.
Don't worry if he answers as "Illawarra Windscreens", that's what he operates under, but he subbies for a mob in Baulkhman hills, and primarily works out of there.

Tell him his old neighbour Russ gave you the number ...

Clearview Autoglass at Riverstone were great for me
4577 2211.
Supplied and fitted a windscreen to my VS 'bout 3 years ago.
Came to where I was working, no scratches or anything, no marks on the ute or the glass when they finished, everything just perfect.
Cost: appx $180 from memory.

Cheers,

When it comes to replacing your windscreen price should be the last thing you think about.

The windscreen is a safety device that supports your passenger air bag and gives the vehicle up 30% of its structural strength.

Cheap price generally means cheap job and in some cases high price means cheap job too, it’s a tight rope.

The VE Commodore has a very difficult to remove cowel panel/plenum grill (this is the plastic panel that you windscreen wiper posts come though).

Every technician that I know does not remove it to replace the windscreen on a VE as it take too long and requires clips from Holden. This a safety risk and very dangerous.

What this means is that the tech needs to slide the windscreen in place behind the panel.

The problem with this short cut is that by sliding the windscreen in, it drags the adhesive seal and therefore does not bond to the body properly at the bottom. Sure it may be waterproof, however if your air bag deploys against the windscreen then it’s likely to be ejected.

Budget companies also don’t uses primer behind the windscreen once removed.

When a tech removes a windscreen it’s inevitable that he will scratch the paint behind the windscreen. This is typical and fine as long as he primes the scratches. Specialised primer is expensive and the customer can’t see anyway once the glass is set, so many techs miss this part out.

Within months the body behind the glass will start to corrode and after a year or two will leak and need rust repairs.

Windscreen companies know the stats. The average person keeps a vehicle for about 4 years, that why they offer a life time none transferable warranty.

Something else you may like to know is that you don’t need a licence to start a windscreen company. This means anyone with a Ute and a sealer gun can fit your windscreen.

I am not trying to scare you or get you business; however cheap is not the best policy when replacing a windscreen.

Ask yourself this. If you needed a baby seat would you look for the cheap one? Did you buy the cheapest car?
