Warwick HWP have a dark grey VZ wagon with dark tint - problem is that there is no way you would think a wagon is a HWP when you go to overtake

yep, these types of falcons are in the campbelltown area as well, they look really well loked after and you have to look twice to see the led lights on the rear parcell shelf.

Think you will find most of the traffic coppers will stick to the likes of Holdens and Fords..... the 380's are common among ranks of detectives and general unmarked cars and they won't hesitate to pull people up.....but things are always changeing and ya never know maybe they highway boys will stray to other brands....always run with the thought that any new or resonable new car could be the boys in blue whether highway or not cause they are changed so often.....

The ute is a sly move though, been a few wagons around.....

In NZ, I've seen them drive everything from Mitsies to Nissans and the more traditional Fords and Holdens in various disguises. Yet they all miss the basic disguise which sticks out like dogs' balls.....

...Towbars!!! The biggest give-away on these mufti cop cars is the lack of towbars: as soon as you see a Ford or Holden without a towbar cruising at the legal limit on a highway, it's highly likely to be a mufti.

I have yet to see any cop car with a towbar....:goodtime:

they can really use anything but i've seen a lot of xr8's, magnas, base falcon sedans and wagons and the normal commo as well but just watch the xr8's coz there the main ones i see and they generally have the GT stripes and if ur around the camden area watch out coz they like to sit in the school zones

Saw 2 unmarked cars yesterday ... 1st was a black VZ SS that tried to bait us into doing something stupid by passing us at about 120 in a 70 zone (and they wonder why people say HWP are assholes ???) ... pulled up behind him at the next set of lights. A guy on a bike then lane split to the front and cut him off  Cop pulled him over as soon as the light went green.

Next one was a silver XR6 on the F7. Spotted both of them fairly easily, especially with the lights mounted inside the rear window.

Last Friday a crummy white AU falcon pulled over a girl in an astra 50 metres in front of me (full hidden light setup) in Ashfield.

Bloody lucky as it probably saved me a ticket.

I know older cars are sometimes used, but I didnt suspect an AU for a minute as its just such a poxy model I didnt think the cops would go near one either

Some times they won't have lights on the rear parcel shelf, but instead have them on either side of the number plate. They can look like reverse lights from a distance.

While not undercover cars, the point is they are usually there in the arvo, when the sun is in your eye's & you'd have no chance of seeing the lidar there, not very honest tactics. But you shouldn't be speeding in the first place, right?:hide:

Actually, I don't have a problem with unmarked Police Cars--not that I'd relish being booked by one though, or a marked car either, for that matter.
Here in Victoria, we are the "speed camera state" - and these cameras are doing nothing to get to the irresponsible hoons & d...heads, that we all see on the roads every day--you know,-the lane changers, the mobile phone users, the ones who cut you off, those who fail to give way, THOSE WHO SIT IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE, all forms of dangerous driving etc etc etc,--and of course these idiots always slow down when a marked car is seen.
I was going down the Geelong Rd the other day, & a "ratbag" (in a Magna!) went past me-I was doing 100ks--he would have been doing at least 150/160--& I said to my wife, geeze, I wish there was a Police car around!!--well, surprise, surprise, about 3-4ks further on, this guy's been booked, by an unmarked police car-it was a Commodore S/W!
So, I say, in Victoria at least, we'd be better with fewer cameras, & a few more unmarked cars--at least a few more REALLY dangerous drivers might pay a penalty, rather than the thousands, sorry I mean tens of thousands, who are being regularly "penalized" for being 3-5ks over the limit.
Cheers, Pickles.

Now, just to stir the pot (just a wee bit)... Vic Police alternate Aus car makers every funding period... ie one year it's Fords, next year it's Holden - so you never know exactly which ones you are going to encounter, because in any given year, there is a 50/50 mix between the two makes, as the high KM cars get turned over for the new maker.

Apparently the alternate makers get thrown in (Mitsub etc) when there are excess write-offs, and the contracted supply of Holdens and Fords is exhausted... but that is here in Vic; doubt this applies for the other states.

City of Whitehorse has also just introduced a C300 as an unmarked Eastern Freeway patrol vehicle - black with full black tint, gets on at Springvale Road and off at Bulleen. And then of course, there is the C300 publicity stunt vehcile in full livery to distract you lot even further...

'Cause you know it's all a conspiracy, don't you? Yup, they ARE out to get you...:lmao:

Actually thats not quite right.
The product purchased is based on more factors than the time of year. The biggest being cost.
Ex of this is the number of fords being used as TMU vehicles. The VicPol fleet for the past 3 years have been predominantly Holden.

macca33
01-01-2007, 09:59 AM
Last time I was familiar with TMU/TOG vehicles, the reasoning behind the brand purchased was simple - Holden were giving generous government fleet discount, the other brand was not.

It was mostly Commodores, unless stock (in the Police pack) was unavailable, then Ford would be requested to fill the gap.

Alternate cars, such as Subarus, Magnas, Utes, etc are bought to mix it up a bit - often at the request of the local TMU boss. There is a fair amount of R & D put into incorporating the required equipment into the cars, thus, a single vehicle type is preferred, unless circumstances dictate other types are to be sourced.

The Commodore, for a multitude of reasons, is the predominant choice.

And Pickles - the policy (in Victoria) on cars has been changed in the past few years - in the traffic area at least. The percentages of marked vs unmarked has altered - in the favour of more marked cars for that 'strong visible presence' factor.

Cheers,

Macca

Agreed man. Anyway, at the end of the day, I would rather be with someone who carries a little extra weight (in the eye's of the general public) and is happy with themselves rather than some self obsessed size 6/8/10 whose only concern is when she is having her next salad and whether she will be able to fit it in since she had a salad 8 hours ago. Oh, and don't forget the clothes. Cause that is the be all and end all of life. And the best part is, I can go out for a DECENT feed and and know that the missus will order a HEALTHY decent sized meal and actually finish it. Better than some ano bimbothat orders a salad a salad and water, and still probably go and throw that up

Funny story, I was in an police officer's office giving a statment on a fatal MVA I assisted with and he left to grab stuff off the printer and got talking to the other guys outside his office. On his wall was a list of all the under cover cars in his district, their discriptions, number plates, and mobile numbers of the officers who drive them. I whipped out the camera phone, set the key pad noise to silent so they didn't hear the noise it makes when you click the button, but the bloody flash has gone off and the two cops turned around and looked at me weird.......

No..... "undercover" would be a clapped out Datsun 200B.

What your referring to is "un-marked"...... Big difference, as im sure "Tony" the "undercover crack head" would not be driving a new red XR6 Turbo as he might just smell a bit porky to the people he is setting up.

But "Tony" the flannelet shirt wearing yobbo with a mullet and 2 bucks to his name, driving a Datsun 200B wouldnt quite smell so porky, although he'd probably only smell like shiiit.

Just had to point that out, as its always made me laugh when i hear little tosspot 'P' plater 17yo's claiming they have been pulled over by "undercover" cops before in their shitbox XD Falcon's.... hahaha, BIG difference.

I lived above a Fire Chief and his wife, a DET SGT in Canada. They were awesome. Anyway, this one time, (heheh) a bloody crook broke in at night and was majorly bummed out, when a click from the handgun being engaged off safety was heard. Apparenty he litterally shat himself then and there (gross), moral of the story.......

You never know who and what someone is, whether confronting in a road rage incident, bar argument, or, when you break into someone's house to steal whatever IS NOT yours in the first place.

Anyway, what a tosser, and he got majorly busted. (Oh, I think he did something to cop a massive right hook from the chief too... 'cause the Chief he had a little shiner under his left eye!)
