hah mine was a white LC Torana 2dr - with the 1300cc Vauxhall Viva engine in it. Gutless POS it was - couldn't pull the skin off cold custard, and there were certain hills in Newport where I had to make passengers walk or it wouldn't go up it. But it was mine and I loved it.

03 VY Commodore Ute, base model 4speed auto white had a black hard top and 17 inch ROH Wheels, my first car, later fitted a 2.5" redback system and like a medium size cannon muffler (i think it was like 5" or 6") wasnt real loud but sounded great, people used to ask me what system it was, how much & whether they made em to fit there cars, when i told em it had a cannon on came the BS about it being a japadore or riced or whatever. she has a special place in my heart forever!

First car, Holden of course, was a LC 4 door Torry. Great car, went everywhere, did everything in it. Had the original 161, couldn't kill it, so eventually put a worked 202, etc.

When I was 16 I got myself the horrible green colour VK Executive with the equally horrible green interior. Came complete with the notorious 202 'black' motor. Absolutely loved that thing back then.
Put it in for a service one day and it stayed in over night. Place got broken into, they took it, used it in a ram raid then thrashed it to Sydney and put it into a pole in Mt Druitt.
Worst part was the bloody insurance company fixed it and I got the thing back. Needless to say it never went the same again and I then got into a WB 1 tonner complete with statesman front end.
Ahh, those were the days.

A 66 HR Holden 186 powerglide.
Pale blue with a white roof, and only the drivers side window tinted as the old bloke who i bought it off used to have the sun annoy him on the way to work every morning lmfao.
No radio and cheese cutters that used to squeel their tits off no matter how slow you were cornering.

Mine was a 1965 HD Holden X2. Purple with 7 inch wide black "steelies" with chrome wheel trims. Had the obligatory black & white checked sun visor strip across the top of the windscreen. The X2 had a 179 cu.inch straight six with twin down draught strombergs (bugger to keep tuned) and sports instument cluster (extra indications in the twin guage set. Had three-on-the-tree. Loved it but it rusted away on me. Traded it with rust and stuffed clutch on a HK 161 cu.inch sedan.

mine was a Kermit the frog green 1971 HQ 202 that was first registered in 1970 - 3 months before it was made - figure that one out!.
Was supposedly an ex cop car (never confirmed) but the only thing i can put the wierd rego down to was maybe it was a Press car or test mule of some sorts - who knows.
My next Holden after that is my manual VXII SS that i got registered just yesterday.
many cars in between, none of which were remotely exciting or a Holden either.

My first ever was a 1957 FE holden sedan standard.
I did lots of mods, wide wheels, completley chromed the engine bay, twin stromberg carbs, engine bored port and polish and a grind on the head and a mild 1760 grind cam.
Not a giant killer but went well and was reliable, was the everyday to work hack and used a lot on weekends,to any race meetings that were on.

:goodjob:
My 1st holden was a hz ute in a light blue colour. No rust at all. The interior was immaculate. The 202 blew up in it. Big end went I think. Dad wouldn't let me put a 5 litre in it. So had to fix the 202 up. Was basically a brand new engine. 1000 k's old. Dad's worker wrote it off.:flipoff:
So the I financed an xpursuit vs. with a clubby kit. Loved that car. Chicks digged it to.
Startin to bring back some awesome memories here

Yeah I used to like them. My Parents had a HQ Wagon when I was a bub. The car in that picture turned me off them actually as it was a piece of shit mechanically.
First car, and a Holden, was a HJ ute, 4.2 red motor, dual pipes, lsd, 7" chrome 12 slotters, bull bar and a bit of suspension work. Great car. Dad bought it new to tow a trailer on far into town, I bought it in 1981 with 40,000kms on the clock. Wish I kept it.
Since then VH Commodore blue motor 3.3 3 speed auto(went really well, motor and transmission shagged by 250,000kms)
1991 VQ statesman 5 litre (a bit worn at 350,000kms)
Current WL statesman 5.7 litre.
In between these, Mini K 1100, Chrysler sigma 2 litre (its a sensation), XF 3.3 auto Falcon on gas (worn a bit at 470,000kms)

My first was a bog stock '92 VP exec with the T5 manual trans. It was owned by a little old lady since new and was absolutely MINT. When I bought it in 2005 it had only 80k on the clock.
I then put Speedy 17" wheels on it (they were black with a shadow chrome rim, with the contrast of the white car they looked mint).
It was a brilliant car until I fell asleep and wrote it off. :bawl:

Had a manual series 1 sv8 first with a few essential mods, absolutely loved that i regret selling it now :)
Now an ssv ute is the daily and im not liking it half as much, it doesnt handle any better, you feel its weight everywhere thats for sure, and its quite a numb car the seats are crap compared to the sv8's ones, the sv8 had a bit of character to it, where as these new ones are quite a boring car to drive, it may be a rocket, but a car with no character is a car with no character... I enjoy driving the volvo v70 with the twin turbo 6 more just because it actually has character :)

I started Holden life with a VK Berlina Wagon, ex Telecom. high kms but good motor, dual fuel. Still sitting in the driveway & take it for a blat every now & then. Good for going fishing.
Then bought a '96 VS Calais, have had it for nearly 10 years and just traded it this past week @ 245thou for another Calais - 2002 VX 3800 Supercharged with 80tho on the clock - 1 owner, very nice condition, and relatively cheap given the current recession & fuel price fanfare.
Had a real mixed bag before that - Cortina wagon, brand new Lada sedan (only new car I ever bought - didnt last long), & still running my Aussie import '82 DCab Hilux 4x4, now repowered with a Cruiser 3L & 5 in the box that most of my kids got dragged around in.

1985 Barina. Carby unleaded and with 14" steelies off a GTI Swift. Great car that I had to run on premium to stop it pinging in summer. The bigger wheels got me to some fishing spots that my landcruiser wouldn't go! mainly because if we got bogged we could lift it out of the mud and I didn't much care about scratches on the poor paintwork. Best "in between cars" car I've ever had.
Cheers LM.

Me and the old man fixed it up ourselves and then some knob crashed into it and a bushfire nearly got it

I cant believe I am admitting this. It was a canary yellow JB Camira. I was 16 and had it for about three weeks before the Local Holden dealer got a HZ Monaro on his lot. Needless to say the camira went. I lost $90 on it due to fitting a fully sick K MART cassette player (remember cassettes?)
Come to think of it that was the start of losing money on cars. Just the amount has gotten bigger. HE HE

My first Holden was a VT commodre, brand new (well.. it had 12kms on it). I racked up 200000kms in about 4 years then handed it to the fiancee and she proceeded to put 12000kms on it over the next 2 years.
I had a lot of memorable moments in that organising car cruises with the now defunct MCCR. The sound system was great (around 135-140db and clear as a bell) which i did the entire install of (my first install).
I even survived this: http://yoyo.its.monash.edu.au/~tbr/uploads/podge/podges.jpg
(yes it was repaired, dont ask me why but i had pretty much no problems after the repair)
Then sold it when i got my company car and the missus took over my Hyundai Getz as we were saving for a house.

Mine was a VL Executive.
2nd was a VS 1995 exec bought it 2 years old and it went like arocket.damn that thing was freaky fast for a standard six.
3rd was a VR 1994 shitter for just running around in.Still have it the misses sometimes drives it to work.
4th is current ride VYII SS M6.
Out of all of them i have to say the VS was the quickest off the mark.Maybe because it had low kms and the previous driver was an older women.

I would just like to say that this thing gives me much joy in life.
Even though it has the 'sticky clutch' problem - I am even looking at the bright side of that: It has gotten me back into 'tech talk', looking at performance options, etc. Something I forgot about with all previous Japanese small cars.
I love my Holden.

In 1973, a 1957 FE Special Sedan, dark blue roof, light blue body in quite good nick. Cost $150 with rego but stuffed second gear. The family mechanic fitted a used 2nd gear cluster and new clutch drive plate for $65 and I was on my way. i lost my virginity in it, I slept in it, I camped in it and travelled SA and VIC in it. i piled mates into it to go to the drive-in, I put taxi brakes (finned heavy drums with wider linings) and radial tyres(whoa!) and a sports muffler. It did everything a 17 yo old boy could want in the swinging 70s.
I'd hate to think how horrible it would be to try today!
So do I get a prize?

EH Special sedan...$250.00 from my illegal casino winnings of $800.00 that I was mugged of $200.00. In the old days in the middle of Fremantle was an illegal casino run by italians or greeks and when i was 16 i used to visit regularly to win beer money. One night i stayed until they closed at 5am and won $800.00 on the two up dice game. On my way walking back to where i was staying i was mugged and they got $200.00. Next day I quit my lousy job, went home to the country and bought my first car.

Ha ha, a step back in time.
1978 VB Commodore L. What a beast. VC SL/E mock up. 2 tone blue, 3.3L HP red motor, Ram flo, 15" SLE wheels, SL/E rear bar, wheels. Lowered 2 1/2 inches. Sports exhaust. Add the full system with 6 x 9's and 10" sub woofer in the boot that rattled the skin off the bootlid frame and she was fully sick mate. Good old chap laps. Drove the thing for 8 years.
Since then i've stuck with the General with the exception of the BF company car.
1987 VL Commodore Berlina 3.0
1976 HX Premier One Tonner 4.2
2007 BF II LPG One Tonner 4.0
2006 VZ Calais 3.6

74 LH Torana in Chamois with A9x black outs and rebel mags.
Started it's life with a low compression 173 ... I added a cam, full exhaust, and 2 barrel carby and popped the top out of a piston in no time.
Then it went to a fully balanced 192 with sealed power chrome molly rings and forged pistons, mallory dual point distributor, triple SU's on a cain manifold, ram tubes, waggot 104 cam, 8 lbs out of the fly wheel. Revved to 8700 RPM, pulled low 14 down the quarter, and spun bearings every couple of thousand km's ....soooo ....
Then it earned itself a 308, fully balanced and blue printed, bored 60 thou, with sealed power flat top forged pistons and chrome molly rings, crane's hottest hydraulic cam of the time, and their lifters, mallory dual point dizzy, yella terra stage 3 heads, edelbrock torquer manifold, holley 780 dp carby, and anything A9X/L34 that could still be ordered from the spare parts counter including heavy duty water pump, double row timing chain, high volume oil pump, push rods, and rockers. It then went into a McLeod clutch, then a close ratio muncie with a hurst competiton plus shifter.
I was 19 ... this thing was around 350-400HP, could do the quarter in flat 13's and had a top speed of a smidge under 160 MPH. Was lowered 3 inches, had 900lb springs in the front, 400lb in the back and was so stiff that it tram-lined like a bastard. Oh ... and it didn't stop!
Reckon I'd be able to drive that on P plates today without the local boys in blue questioning me???????
All I can say is lucky I am alive today!

1983 JB Camira SLE, 3 spd auto. Plush interior and well kitted out inside and not a bad looking car, kind of like a mini VH SLE, but the whole Camira experience soured soon after....went thru 3 water pumps and 2 head gaskets and during the summer after it had been driven for 30 minutes or so, the only way she would re-start after a stop would be to have the key in the ignition and short the starer motor terminals with a screwdriver. During a drive back to Perth from Kalbarri, got pinged by the local coppers who had the cheek to remark that they were "initially inclined to let me off as they didn't think a Camira could do 135 kmh"
Second was HSV SV88 (VL Calais). Nice looking car and well kitted out. Great seats (although leather quality not that flash from memory) and Momo steering wheel, but quality of finish was an issue. Lower plastic panels on the exteriors of the doors and leather panel on glove box were constantly falling off. 3 speed auto but would have been more better with a 5 speed manual, wound it out to about 190 to 195 kmh on a straight stretch one time (i think from memory) but it started to feel very light and twitchy. Got rid of it after it got broken into 3 times, but never stolen.
Now driving the VE SSV (nearly 2 years from new) and could not be happier.

Mine was a Camira too: a 4 speed 83 SL. Blew smoke all the time but without the dreaded Aircon and Auto I actually never had a problem with it in 2 years. Probably the perfect car for an 18 year old as it handled reasonably well and wasn't quick enough to cause any trouble.
I don't miss it though.

Mine was a VN GTS the white one, bought it from a wreaking yard with a blown engine, had it all fixed up tuned well and it went real hard loved it, took so much care of it.
Sold it to a mate a few years back, took him about 3 months to destroy it and sell it for $100 to a scrap yard, last time I sell a car to a mate don't ever want to know what happened to it.

1976 LX SS Torana:). Still in the process of being restored as I didnt have the funds to do so at the time. 2nd car was a VTII Acclaim, had a clubsport kit, real good suspension(sway bar, strut brace, lowered springs and shocks...used to handle like a go kart) and a real loud stereo haha. Sold that and bought a VZ SS which is my current ride:D

First car was a holden, 1972 HQ Kingswood shaggin wagon...and it lived up to its name :D
The good ol' red 202, think at the end I knew how to replace the head gasket with my eyes closed hehe...3 on the tree, oh and how it loved the rain, hit a puddle and it would stall out..meaning goodbye brakes..
Had a good stereo in it though, used to talk to you which freaked people out. And I had a bagphone in it lol, before it changed from analog to digital and I had to get a new one :(

Hrm - mine was a VC Commodore, 173, 4 speed, paid about $3k for it in about 1993 and it couldn't pull the skin off a rice custard. I smashed a couple of lifters and bent 2 pushrods in it within a week or two of getting it so apparently it wasn't real well built either. The big selling point was it had a Kenwood CD player in it! Lovely reddish vinyl interior it had, and tough with white duco and gold hotwires that scrubbed like a bastard but I didn't care.
After that I've had a few others...
HQ Panel van (surfie weapon)
VN Executive
VU SS (auto)
VL SL (daily driver)
VU SS (manual, h/c, exhaust + more)
Holden Combo (barely counts as a Holden really)
and currently
VY II Berlina wagon (LS1)
LJ 2 door I'm building (STILL at the bodyworks after 8 months)
That's just the Holdens though, there's been plenty of others!

1969 HB Torana, 70 series-70 cubic inch, 70 horsepower. Rocket-officially confirmed at 140 kph, officer, on Kwinana Freeway in 1979. Lucky they didn't have the "lock you up and throw away the keys" laws of today. Dad passed it to me in 1976
TD Cortina wagon 1981-250 cid 6 cyl-understeer city
VC 179 Commodore sedan 1982
VK 202 Commodore wagon 1984
Range Rover 4 door 1985 (VK was a lemon)
VK 5L Commodore wagon 1986, with 4 speed manual fitted (Rangie a mistake)
Rover SD1 3.5L 1988 (another mistake)
Jaguar series 1 4.2L 1989 (yet another mistake)
VL Berlina turbo manual 1990-bliss, except if road was wet
VR Clubsport 4A-very expensive tyres ($600 each for 17" Potenzas in 1995)
VK Calais worked 5L, Tremec 5M, 1996, 850dp Holly-stupid-just got divorced
VL Calais EFI 5L, Tremec 5M, etc 1996. $20,000 on top of a $15,000 car. Nice
VZ SSZ ute 4A 2005 (VL Calais wore out)
VE SSV ute 6M 2007. Best car so far
Various people movers-Taragos, Landcruisers mixed in as well, plus XF wagon after divorce. New better half had 1977 Mazda 121 coupe sports car-not bubble, now has SSZ sedan-perfect second car to take mother-in-law shopping.
Cheers, Doc

VC SLE
Had all the trimmings,
by far my favourite car of all time
i owned her for four years and
then got a full respray and trim done,
then i went to upgrade the suspension
and when we had it on my mates hoist
we found massive rust holes in the chassis,
So i sold all i could and scrapped her,

Bought new - 1973 HQ panel van, 308 trimatic, 2.78 diff. Optioned GTS dash, bucket seats and a dual exhaust. Those of you who know the HQ van can imagine the tortuous route the pipes took to get to the rear end, but the unequal length scertainly added to the sound.
This was before the Sandman, so I lay claim to having a "Sandman" before they were made - or possibly giving GMH the whole idea.
Then I went drag racing with it - 15.8 with that tall rear end. But it did go fast on the open road.
Uniroyal tyres lost wet grip when they wore - spun it twice, but this was when we were all young & stupid.
Ohhhh, the stories...........................

'71 HQ Belmont, with a very worked 327 Chev running an Offenhauser tunnel ram & twin 600 holleys thru a turbo 400 shift kitted, manual valve body & 4500rpm stall. Absolute pig to try & drive within legal limits :flipoff:around town but a bucket load of fun. Ahh yes those were the days.

HT Kingswood hand me down from my uncle. 161 three on the tree which would sometimes jam between first and second. Those were the days.
Now have an original HT Premier in the shed. Factory 308 and glide. Will be getting a make over in the not too distant future I hope. Still unsure weather to keep the engine factory spec or go a bit mental with a SBC. Leaning toward keeping stock and doing some club runs and rallys.
Might buy something else with a stoinker in it if we ever get a strip happening again here in SA.
