Anyone had extperiance with the holden certifyed used car warratys. Have you encounted any problems with it... Are they fairly good or are that just a nother way to sell the car? Anyone brought a car with the certifyed warranty and had problems afterwards or found the inspection was false? Just wondering any experiances would be great

A VS Commodore I got on the certified plan had its power steering shit itself. Pump and rack replaced totally at their expense, no questions asked. From that experience I'd definately buy a car under the scheme again.

People have had bad experiences no doubt, but that's how it worked for me with the dealer which we have a long history with.

Cheers,
Matt

I think the main points to consider are
car must be serviced by the selling dealer for life of warranty.
$1,000 max limit to any repair.
km limit to warranty.

Had one service done by them,$23 to change the rear brakelight. They also changed the front linkpins even though it never had a knock in the front end.
Now i got a knock in the front end. They charged me $45 for a wheel alignment.A week after the service when i gave my car a bootful the top radiator hose fell off. When i got the threatening letter off them to tell me i'm
about to lose my warranty for not servicing with them,I told them to stick it
right up.Well you know where.

Must be serviced by that dealership can be a pain especially if you do not like their work, service or distance to travel.

the warranty is great if the dealer is local.

it also shouldnt matter about how far you live because i know that at the dealership i work at, you get a free service loan car for the life of the warranty, so people from all over town get looked after.

A first for any Holden dealer I've dealt with  ……..Not even HSV owners can be guaranteed a loan car these days under *Factory* warranty..let alone the limited used car jobs

Exactly right, better ask first, the best I could get was a bus but only locally.

I bought a VX a couple of years ago under this scheme... Didn't have any warranty dramas more DEALER dramas.

About 2 weeks after purchasing the car, I got the dredded brake shudder. Thinking it was only 2 weeks after purchase they'd fix it. I was gob smacked when I walked into the service office told them about the problem and they said sorry champ discs aren't covered under the warranty (fair enough) and it'll cost you $180 to get the rotors machined!?!?

I ended up getting my mechanic to do them for $40... So I figured at the end of the day you're gonna end up paying for it somewhere down the track (warranty that is)... From then on my car never went to holden again!

For the amount they slug you to do services/brakes and whatever else that isn't covered under your warranty, you'd probably better off getting it serviced somewhere alot cheaper and saving the money and paying for anything that goes wrong... Which in my case was absolutely nothing!

Just my thoughts.

I think it really depends on the dealer. I brought my car with the certified warranty At first it was execellent because in the first 3 months it actually went to their predelivery workshop (not at the dealership) and I had a few things fixed, only minor probs. After then having to get something looked at at the dealer service centre itself I Didn't bother with them, they were useless. Send the car in with a rattle for example, they assure you it's fixed, you don't even get out the driveway, and you hear it. They keep the car for another day, fix the rattle, stuff something else up in the process. Oh, you'll have to leave it with us another day they say. Too much hassle! I gave them a few chances, but then got jack of it. I think from memory it was to be fixed price $175.00 services (standard minor service). Then they send me the threatning letter, come service your car now or we'll cancel your warranty, go stick it where the sun don't shine.

I think holden dealers have a lot to learn. My girlfriend has a Merc, nothing too flash just a C class, but the service she gets from the Mercedes dealer is top notch. They understand if they get your business and they look after you, when you upgrade your car, number 1 you'll buy it off them, and number 2 you'll service it with them, and they most liekely win a customer for life. You buy a barina off holden and they screw you around, when you get enough $$$ to buy a Calais, or stato, or caprice or HSV are you going to trust it to them? no way! You'll go try someone else. Makes me wonder how profitable they could be if they "really" looked after the customer, not just plastered their BS customer service blurb on the wall.

Sorry about the speil!

3yrs/175000 kms

*Must be serviced 10/15,000kms or 6mts (whatever is closer)
*1000 dollar limit to any ONE claim , so you can have unlimited claims but each one after 1000 dollars u have to pay.

Same as the ford one i just got with my BA GHIA

True for many other makes as well, except of course Holden. I'm new to the whole Holden thing as I've had Euros before, most recently an Alfa. The service was exceptional. Loan car was guaranteed if you booked more than a week ahead, and you'd get the 159 or better with leather interior, fully optioned out, regardless of what you're dropping off, whether it's a 2yr old 147 or 20yr old Alfetta :)

When I drop off and pick up the car at Holden's for servicing I first have to make them admit there's a problem. If they acknowledge it, then I have to pray that it gets fixed, chek up on it at pick up, possibly follow up on something else they broke, scratched or what not. If your car makes it to the first traffic light I count the service as 'successful' :)

Pluses and minuses of owning an ls1 I suppose :D

mate just read the fine print, the warranty is great to a point and may cover a wider range of problems than other used warranties, but it only covers up to $1200 from memory, if anything the peace of mind from the checklist being done by a holden dealer is worth it.

So far everything that has gone wrong with the car was not covered under their warranry.

Engine light came on. Apparently a faulty oil pump or something. Not covered

Took it in for a service. Expected a $230 service. Get a call.. $1300! (some of it was fair enough.. battery, breaks. Apparently some fluids needed changing). They said the power steering pump has leaky seals. Seals are not covered.. $560.).

I did get a couple of things covered under warranty after a complaint, but I shouldn't have to.

As mentioned, there is always a $1000 max limit.

Just had my 2001 ute in for a service. Base price was to be $140. Reasonable I thought. Oh wait, needs coolant, thats $90 extra! O....k. Warning bells beginning to ring. (I could buy enough coolant to fill three cars for $90)
I had let them know about a little diff chatter that was happening around slow corners etc. They confirmed this and that they could fix it with a 'diff chatter kit' for $290. (I've researched this problem and know that it's probably just a case of adding the additive: $30 or replacing the oil: $60). This would of course be covered under the warranty?...(I've only had the car 3 months.) Fat chance, warranty doesn't cover this.
This is the first car I've had that i've actually taken it somewhere to get it serviced, I've always done my own servicing to prevent getting ripped off.
After this experience I'm seriously considering saying screw the warranty - I'm not taking it back to the holden servicing department. The money I'll save on not getting ripped off by holden will cover any problem that they will POSSIBLY (probably not) fix under warranty anyways.
Holden - Means a great deal to...lining their own pockets!

My Rant Over.

Like many have said already, it really depends on the dealership. From my past experience, the biggest hassle is having to take it to the dealer you purchased it from. If your like me when looking for a new car, you more often than not end up travelling to get the best deal, so the extra cost and dramas in getting back to the original dealer is not always worth it

I have always been the one thinking "stop bagging Holden servicing". But after the other day sitting in the waiting room and listening to the general tone of replies from the guy behind the service counter really opened my eyes. I mean every customer that came in with a problem this guy was on the defense to. Not one complaint that a customer had got past his barage of excuses/reasons/arguments. I mean this guy should have been in politics!
I wonder if Holden train them to have so many lame excuses not be be responsible for problems - it really opened my eyes!!!!!!!!!!

Not worth the paper it's written on.

In the past 6 months (I bought the car 8 months ago) I have had a tensioner pulley replaced, cracked radiator replaced, broken seat rail replaced, and a cracked rear lense that was like that when I bought it replaced and not one was covered under warranty. That is $2300 worth of stuff that is nothing but manufacturer faults, bar the rear lense, that was not replaced under this so called 'warranty'.

I won't be servicing the car with a dealer anymore that's for sure.

Just thought I'd share my experience with an aftermarket warranty. When I had an issue I would take it to the dealer, they'd look at it and say it wasn't covered under warranty and it would cost $$$ to fix. I told them don't worry I'll take it to the local mechanic who'd did it for a hell of a lot less. They then told me hold on let us make another call. Funnily enough they came back saying they could do it under warranty. I think the issue is that they get paid less for warranty work then if they charged you normally....
