hi guys i am fitting a set of maloo extractors and i was wondering do you really have to pull off the steering rack as these extractors are a 2 piece , let me know as i dont want to be stuck thursday night and spending 6 hours trying to do it myself on the ground

space is so tight in these things that I put it into the too hard basket and just payed a workshop to do it. Something like just over an hours work and a lot less hassle than lying underneath the car for a few hours swaring and cursing.

To answer your question I do beleive you have to drop the power steering rack down, but its not much of a drama. I'm not sure if you need to drop it completely though.

Are you saying the standard maloo headers are two piece??

Standard Maloo would be piss easy to do, wouldn't need to remove steering arm thing :p hehe

I have fitted paccies on my Monaro and that was easy as, and they are a lot bigger than the HSV systems. It can be done, just do it slowly etc... I didn't have car jacked up or anything when installing them however does make the job a bit easier :D

If you need a hand let me know, not to fair away :D

I fitted a set of extractors to my vx ss, and they were piss easy. R/H side is two piece, i only had to pull the coils off the rockers for clearance and slide the lower piece up from the bottom. L/H side i had to remove the pcm and the air cleaner and over flow tank. They then just slid in. Couple of hours tops. Beware though you may need to modify the pipe from your cats.. Mine was to long.. Very noisy trip to the exhaust shop...

I assume they are VT-VY1 HSV headers.

You won't have to pull the rack out.
If you have the cats as well it will be a direct bolt on fit to your system.
If you dont have the HSV cats, you will have to cut your engine pipes and flange them for the headers to bolt on, or chop the flanges off, pump the pipe up and slip it over the engine pipe and weld it.

Cheers

what was wrong with the stock one?

just check that the plugs on sitting correctly on both the coil and spark plug.

Maybe the leads are not on properly, or it could be shorting between the lead and the heatshield on the plug.

When it is running, wiggle the leads one at a time. If you do it in the dark you will see the spark.

PS Hold the lead by the rubber - dont touch the heat shield.

Like I said in the other threads putting on extractors changes note more than noise, by taking pressure of the motor you can actually end up with less noise, especially noticable when you look at something like old style log headers on a clevo, they often lose heaps of noise going to free flowing headers/extractors as its no longer loading the motor.

Funny thing is no one here beilives me, apparently extractors will make more noise no matter what other variables there are, I love it when people say the exhaust shop told me it would sound better, as long as I paid him to doit all.....:weirdo: shop would say that its out to make a sale.

it only misses under load so maybe i crack a plug or something i dont know , and do you really need the heat shied plugs leads or normal ones and what plugs do you guys recomend as i will prob change them tomrrow as well

Hey! Search button does it again!,

Im thinking about doing the same thing with a set of Pacey Tri-Ys this weekend on my VX SS. Drivers side is 2 piece and the passenger is 1 piece.... Just wondering if I need to do anything else to fit these such as drop the power steering rack or should I just be able to pull out the old and put in the new?

They are Pacemaker 5367s with HPC Coating (the blue shit pacemaker put on them not Ceramic or anything flash like that). I dont have any heat shields so they have been wrapped in thermal tape. I'm not really too worried about them cracking as I only plan on having them on the car for another 4 years.

I assume I can just use all the original bolts from the standard manifolds and nothing is to be loctited (cant see why it... would probably stink with the heat)?

Any advice would be great as its always good to here others experiences before attempting something that you have not done before...

Am going to just attempt it by myself but I have a few mates that could give me a hand if its more of a 2 person job. Prefer to just be me as it gives me the shits to watch others do something... Control freak I guess:jester:

Cheers,

Michael

Oh yeah and I guess this thread is really LS1 powertrain or technical or whatever its called but I didnt start it so dont blame me :smilesandbanana:

Right well now I realise how stupid I really am:rofl:

Looking at the aftermarket extractors I assumed there must of been a flange on the cats to bolt up to and that it would be an easy process.... Got under and turns out the flange I thought was there and remembered was on the wrong side (catback side) :jester:

Any idea on how or what with or if I should just cut the exhaust pipe right back???? fit the extractors and then drive (read baby) it down to the exhaust shop and get them to weld it up???

Maybe I will just leave it to the pros then.... Was hoping to save some $$$ but didnt realise about the cat pipes...
