Metro Motors in Morley have today advised me that Holden have agreed to replace the engine in my Series 1 CV8 due to excessive oil consumption. The only problem is I will have to pay around $1000.00 for labour to fit the new engine!!

I bought it new in January 2002 and it's done just over 70000k's. Oil consumption and Piston slap was noticed at around 30000k's and the pistons replaced around 40000k's. Even though the car is now well out of warranty, due to the fact that the problems have been around since well before the warranty ran out is it reasonable for me to think I should not have to pay for the labour either?

Has anyone else had to have a replacement engine out of warranty and had to pay the labour costs?

Cheers
Glenn

Your rebuilt engine should have a Holden factory 2 yr parts and labour warranty. If your already outside that then 1k for an engine isnt bad. If its less then 2 yrs then take your reciept to them and request a "please explain"

Tuff one mate I would have thought a problem that has been logged on their data base since 30000k's should be there problem with no expense passed on to you but worst case $1000 is not too bad ,I wonder what would happen if you installed the new motor yourself or had a mechanic do it $1000 labour seems a bit high.

Maybe ask if you can have the engine and get it fitted at a sponsor and you can drop them back the other one when its done (and get an edit at the same time)

Thanks for the replies.

Just went through my service records and new pistons were fitted in May 2003 and piston slap on new pistons was noted in January 2005. This is within the 2 year 50000km warranty period on repairs.

Hopefully this might give me some leverage.

Cheers
