First I am new to this forum so hi all!

Ok so I am looking at slotting my stranded rotors. I am able to do this for free:lol: . Does any one have standard slotted rotors and if so how good are they. Or should I just spend the money on a PBR kit.

I guess you could if you've got access to a milling machine and know how to use one. Otherwise it would not be free and in most cases a waste of time and money. Just spend the cash on the PBR kit.

If it free that is a cheap upgrade
But genuine rotor material isnt as good as the after markets

Even if you are a wizz with the machine work. I dont think its a good idea, Ive heard of disks shattering ect. If you want slotted rotors your better off paying for them.

I am a machinest by trade and have some nice CNC gear at my disposal however i have not heard of disks shattering might have to do a bit more research first thanks for that.

have looked into it and is possible but why alter a standard rotor, for what its worth it is far more beneficial to spend the cash on a good set of rotors & pads.

I had a set of standard rotors that had been slotted for 2 years and zero problems.

Worth noting however is your intended use for your car. A car that sees a lot of roundy roundy action on the circuit may not have the same results.

If you know what your doing do them your self why not and save the money.

Make sure you use a ball nose cutter. The radius will prevent any cracks. As for depth go to the min rotor thickness depth. There may be some after market rotors that have a thicker wall section that would allow deeper groves but why bother unless you need a bigger diameter. I have only used new rotors. Any hard spots usually kill a cutter quite quickly, I used a 3mm. Check the layout of the cooling vents and try to keep the slots in line with them but if you only go to min rotor thickness it shouldn't cause a problem. I would be surprised if there were different types of cast iron used in rotors just different layouts of the vents.

You could get fancy and label the rotors at the same time instead of slots, I reckon SS would still work ok to get out gas and they would be one of a kind. Really easy to do you wont even have to fire up the cad.

You could do it properly and get a whole heap of gear for cheap by having a bid here...

Thanks daza that a good thought might have to look in to that. Only have to take about 1.5mm of each side to do it so not much cutting at all. Think I will give it a go will let you all know how it comes out.:yup:
