View Full Version : Monaro + $3,000 = 12.87 @ 109.30mph

Well with the 3.9 diff gears in, it was back to Willowbank to see how i'd go. It was a frustrating nite on Saturday (5th) with 88 bikes booking the track and 100+ cars there to race. Only got 2 runs in for the whole nite!!!!
End result, two back to back 12 sec passes with the 2nd one being a 12.87!!!!
Happy... yet i belive i could have shaved a little more off that time with a couple of more runs. Still, not bad for a catback zorst, mafless tune and diff gears!!!!
Personal Gripe: Why can't Willowbank make Test'n'Tune nites for competition cars and street cars separate!!! Close to an hour and a half was WASTED on Saturday nite when competition car after competition car dumped oil/coolant and whatever else all over the track and it had to be cleaned up!!!!!!!! :cussing:  :flamin: Anyone else with thoughts on this??????

Yes the Monaro is Manual, stock clutch and shifter!!
In regards to that other thread...good to see i'm not the only one pissed off about having to wait so long to get a measly 2 runs in!!!!

I'd definetly go the MafLESS tune and throw the diff gears in instead of getting headers/extractors. You'll get far better acceleration with the gears instead of headers! Go and see Shaun & Mark at Powertorque in Brisbane, those boys are gospel!
Oh and the diff gears make hardly any difference to your highway driving. I drove up to Willowbank from the Coast and 6th gear is just beautiful on the highway now.

Hey Terry
Yeah, thought i might see you there mate. Not too many LS1 there actually, i think i was the only Monaro too!
Your right, i thought i would be content with high 12's, but now i'm looking at an OTR intake and maybe some headers in the next few months!

Hi Darshik
I've researched heaps before doing these mods and i think that these should be amongst the very first things you should do to your Monaro. See the boys at Powertorque for a Mafless tune first with exhaust upgrade, then do the gears. You should see the same results, maybe better, if you run a M6, and prob very close if you have an Auto.
P.S Word of warning, get friendly with a guy that owns a Tyre Shop hehe:burnout:

well done, nice time I'll be chasing 12s soon....I'm looking to do the same gears, and tune in the next week or 2.....what have you done for induction? I'm lost as to what to do with OTR, MCAI and GTS 4" pipe, ss reductions etc etc!?!?!?!

Beware
Mate, i have the 2 hole mod on the Monaro CAI and a mafless GTS pipe, that's all. Although i'm looking at switching to an OTR intake because everyone says they are good for another tenth or two down the quarter.

That's an awesome time. How hard did you have to launch to get that time? What sort of RPMs?

Mate, just standard street tyres!!! Falken 235x18x40 to be exact. Let the pressure in them down to 18psi, some say this doesn't help, but i believe it does!!!

Launched at about 4500 rpm. Let the clutch out fairly hard and just mash the throttle. No wheelspin at all!!!!
Still trying to find that perfect balance. i did another run and launched it at just over 5000 rpm but it wheelspun the whole way through 1st and second gear and a litte of 3rd. This may have also been due to the fact that there was an oil spill on this side of the track about half an hour before.
But the short answer is, around 4500-4750 is perfect launch revs.....for me.

Thanks heaps for the reply. I still haven't run mine as yet. I wanted to on the Marrano's eastern creek day, but the day just didn't happen:bawl:

I'm thinking I may just do the same, MCAI, 2 hole and GTS pipe.....I don't think I want to go OTR(none available and the cost extra), nor SS inductions...even though PT are pushing for me to use a Growler...I'm just not convinced with all the negatives on here!!!

Sounds like you nailed it mate, what was your 60ft?
Monaro CV8-R
07-08-2006, 01:53 PM
60ft time was 1.86 sec, i'm told that's pretty much as good as i'll get with my mods!

Your pretty spot on. That is not a bad 60ft time, especially being manual. Only having 2 runs, you have certainly nailed a good one early.
That being the only problem manual drag racing, is consistantly nailing that 60ft time.
Well done
