Hi all, I am chasing some advice regarding the Cobra catback sports exhaust to replace the Miss Daisy HSV that quietly buzzes along. I have been assured by the shop that the system sounds great and also been assured it has 0 drone and they will happily refund my money if I am not satisfied.
Has anyone got user experiance with this system. All the bends are mandrel. I have been quoted $700 installed.
Thanks in advance

I haven't heard of a 'Cobra' brand exhaust but you can't go wrong with that statement.

There has been a fair amount of discussion around Cat back exhausts so do a bit of a search, I found a fair bit especially if you use search terms like "redback" or "sureflo" etc, some members have even done personal independant testing for 1/4 mile times etc, well worth the read. Having said that I agree that if they will take it back and replace your existing unit if you aren't happy it's not a bad deal. I'd get a dyno done before and after if you are chasing better power/torque.

Good point Crusty re. the 'before and after' dyno run for comparison.

I intend to do the same before any performance changes, even air filter upgrades, it's nice to be able to validate the results and our local dyno shop only charges about $60 for a couple of power runs and they keep the results so next time I can get an overlay on the printout if I want.

Thanks for the replies, I had done an extensive search on the cobra brand on this forum but I could not find anything.
Power gains is not a priority, more so I am after a nice V8 note
Many thanks

Hi all, an update on this Cobra exhaust, I had it installed late last week and it bolted on perfectly.
The guys at Southport Exhaust told me to run the car for at least 400ks to alow the plastic bags in the mufflers to open up to allow for the fibreglass to form in the mufflers, strange one as I knew nothing about that.
I have just clocked up 500ks and the sound has become nice and deep, with a sweet rumble at idle. At wot this baby sings and although I had no idea of any power gain I can swear the car goes a lot harder.
At $700 bucks installed I am very happy as finally I have a V8 that sounds great and zero drone.
I would have preferred to go and given my money to one of our sponsors for the job but as I have just transferred back to the Gold Coast from Melbourne and there seems to be none here so apologies.

Sounds like I need to have a discussion with you ;)
mate have you got any info on the system, does it have an X-pipe or balance tubes (X pipe looks like an X after the cats and before the centre mufflers, balance tubes are straight tubes between the pipes, usually 2 of them), does it have a resonator (will usually drone if it doesnt) and what sort of tip did it include? thanks for any info mate, looking into this for my own car, and its always best to ask another owner first.

Here is the website for this system www.cobraperformanceexhaust.com.au
and its the CPEK209 under gallery the photo and full discription will answer all Qs,
The exhaust has no drone at all as at first I went down the wrong route of being told by another exhaust shop to take off the rear HSV muffler and after two days I was back putting the original muffler on as the drone was a shocker but with this new system i have had zero drone at any speed and drove to Brisbane from the coast on the weekend just to try it out and at cruise it is quiet which I am happy with.

Sorry about the trans ommision, its an auto.
Another update when installed the shop advised me to drop back at around 1 week or 600 ks of which I did yesterday for a check and to tighten up and thus far the system sounds great.
One other small point is with the original factory system the engine would not idle smooth but since the day I got this new exhaust the motor idles smooth, stuffed if I know why.
