Hi, I have an 84(?) XR 200, the twin carb model. Last time i rode it the clutch slipped really bad, can this be due to incorrect oil, or is the clutch worn? Ive heard its relatively easy to change the clutch, apparently it slides out...could anyone out there give me an idea of what i need to do, or a link to a walkthru on the net?
Cheers, Jarrod

It has been way too long since I had the old XR200, RC I think was the model designation, so I cannot give any advice on the technical step to pull the thing out.

One thing for sure on the oil, do not use any oil which has "friction modifiers" as that will cause slip. Also make sure you have freeplay in the lever.

Thanks mate, made sure i got a non synthetic oil this time. I think the problem is the clutch is stuck in the 'engaged' position...im hoping it is only a spring or something simple to fix it. Tried some drunken modifications last nite, which funnily enough didnt work, and all i have now is a ruined clutch cable...Mite just take it into the shop while i get the new clutch cable and get them to sort it out. I dont know how to fix it but it couldnt b too hard, or costly. I hope...

!!
Dont do that!!,..
Xr's are great too work on!..

Rip the side cover off (normaly the same as the gearbox oil filler)
And check it out!. Its not hard too pull the basket off!, Then you will see the problem quickly!..

Is not picking up?
If you run the wrong oil ? engine oil? and ride it while its slipping!.. it will root the friction plates very quickly!!.

Good thing is they are fairly cheep!!

Good luck!!
