Any dealer outsources window tinting. You will get the same tinting with lifetime guarantee by calling reputable tinters that are in the location of your dealer. You will probably save around $200.

Sadly mine is a government car so I don't think I can go to a third party. I will ask the dealer when I go in there tomorrow to check where the hell my car is. It is meant to be here 11-13 so it better not be delayed again.

I was just wondering if people knew how much dealer window tinting is? I didn't option it when I ordered my car but in the recent heat I have been thinking of getting them to do it.

I'm just wondering how much it costs as it isn't listed anywhere.

Your dealer can get it done for $200 -$300 with full warranty get it done mate even if you pay for it yourself I havn't owned a car without tints for over 15 years, just won't do it.

cheers

No, it should fully unlock all the doors at the same time. Stuff around with the menu again...

I have the two stage unlock on AND the lock at 8kmh and unlock ALL doors when key removed working perfectly. Have another go at it.

John.
Shouldn't that be at road speeds 15kp/h? Happen too me, I had some trouble getting the doors open when stopping, First it was remove key then i changed it too drivers door but the passengers got locked in, then park was the best open all doors.

I have the car unlock when I put it into park because often you want to leave the key in the car when you're getting out.

Yep...I worked mine out last night. Locks all doors at 13km and once i select park it unlocks all doors. I must have missed bits of the manual reading over the weekend as i was exited with the car.

Can anyone help me with the following. I had a good look at the car over the weekend and noticed that under the front spoiler there is quite a large indented scratch mark. You can't see it at all as it is right under the front spoiler but being a little fussy i checked everything and found this.

Whats the best way to go and what should the dealer do?
Thanks

It will win Car of the Year - simply because many of the wheels journos are complete d**heads - and the advert dollar being pumped into the mag is immense (dont dare bite the hand that feeds you)

It will win all comparisons as well - while at the same time these journos will say just how bad the VZ was - even though an edition ago they were stating the opposite
In Motor's PCOTY the SS-V came 14th and the GTS came 18th (out of 20). Big win eh?

Retard.

My brother is a dyed in the wool Ford fan and owns a Tornado ute. I was able to spend a lot of time comparing his ute (and a Typhoon sedan) with the VE SS. While the Ford has a lot of good traits, I felt that it wasn't up to the engineered standard of the Commodore and that it does feel a generation older. And realistically, anybody in the market for this sort of vehicle will know this is what we are comparing here. You have to remember that you are getting a roomy 4 door sedan with a 270kw V8 driving the rear wheels for $47k, what else in the world competes that level?

To whinge about styling is a personal issue that is going to be different for everyone. Therefore your comments can only be taken as your own opinion, and are pretty much worthless to everyone else on this forum.

Yeah i wondered why there wasn't a thread for PCOTY. I haven't read the article yet so i have no idea why Holden got such an average result but the all new GTS at 19th ? Well i don't need to tell you but that is not a great result.

Where is the outcry from the fans ?

I finally brought a power lead that will reach my radar detector from the 12v plug in the storage compartment.

First drama - can't get the power lead to work. Tried in the Mrs car and no go in there. 2 possibilities - lead is knackered or radar detector has died whilst not being used the last 3 or 4 months.... Back with the lead to Dick Smith to check it out...:cussing:

Second drama - how can I run the lead to get it under the centre console without running it out of the storage compartment between the sides and the lid making it visible and therefore look tacky ? Has anyone done this ?

Thanks

Having just completed a long trip I found the lack of power supplies very annoying. The childrens DVD player has a long cord so it was connected into the supply in the storage compartment (with lead hanging out side and stopping the lid from shutting tightly), but when I needed the Sat Nav or to charge my phone I had to choose which device and the kids had to wait a few hours (very painful).

Surely there must be more than one Power supply. Maybe somebody could knowk one up that could mount out of side under the dash. I am going to get the Boot unit fitted. I would have got the smokers pack but it is ugly and you lose that useful little storage compartment and Sat Nav wasn't available and I already own the Navman.

Surely there must be more than one Power supply. .

Just for information - you can buy double socket adapters from places like Autobarn/Repco etc. One end plugs into the car socket - the other end has two female sockets.

On my VY - I had one permanently in place but threaded the cord so that it came out from under the centre storage bin and velcroed (is that a word?) it to the carpet under the driver seat so it was more accessible and the cords where hidden.

Is there a power supply socket in the boot, next to the battery? Or is that what you mean by the 'boot pack' ? If not, you could easily hook one up to the battery and have the socket in the boot, behind the middle of the back seat. Then you could just open the centre armrest/ski-port and plug the kids DVD in through there. Of course, don't forget a fuse!

I remember reading about the boot socket. Mentioned here http://carsguide.news.com.au/story/0,20384,20290245-5009380,00.html
Statesman only maybe?
edit: just read the full features lists and the boot socket is only Statesman/Caprice :(

here's a pic.

My detector lead disappears under the windscreen demist vent panel and runs down to the fuse box where it plugs into a spare slot which is switched 12V. All very neat and tidy - come around and check it out if you want. It also leaves the socket in the console free for other stuff.

Regarding the aux 12V socket in the boot, this is listed as $32 (plus fitting) in the Holden accessory brochure.

Thanks Gav. Will take back my lead I bought and find out WTF is wrong with it first and then have a look at your setup...

How'd you go with the window tinting....

I washed my car yesterday and did the Meguiars Tyre Shine. With those almost cyclonic easterlies this morning my tyres now look like sandpaper on one side of the car with the dirt stuck to the them... :cussing:

Isn't the boot lead an optional extra in the other models?

*Edit* Just looked at the Holden website and under the accessories section they have:

Accessory socket - boot - $ 32.45*
The boot mounted Holden accessory power socket is integrated to allow the operation of accessories such as car fridges and air compressors.

That's not to bad if you really want to have one put in.

On an unrelated note, I notice the Holden website now has a link to the mini-site for the Epica. This is the first I have seen of it. I take it that is the replacement for the Vectra?

The boot socket is great and I use it for my fridge. It was an option for the Calais V too but really, its cheap as!!. Unfortunately it's one of the few bad fitments on my car.

The bloody socket keeps falling out of its locator hole. Guess its nothing some araldite won't fix. Just a niggly problem that should not happen. I couldn't be bothered taking it to holden for something so minor that I can probably fix myself..

Having said that I have not had many trim type issues at all with the VE to date..

You could always get the smokers pack but only get the rear ash tray / lighter fitted. That would get you at least one extra power outlet at the back of the console.

Not sure what you mean by a "2006 plate" car. Was it already registered 2006? All VEs are classified as model year 2007 whether they are registered 06 or 07. It shouldnt make a difference to pricing at all

Model years arent as important here as build date.
A couple of years down the track, a 07 build VE will be worth more than a 06 built one, hence the date on the compliance plate is reflected in the new price, and dealers tend to want to move older stock so slightly better deals can be had.

I understand that one however when it comes to trading in here, the rego year always takes precedence over build date or model year

Strange...... I'm sure you're in the game over there but over here I have never seen anybody much concerned about rego date - it's always build date that's most important to dealers and private buyers who know what they're doing.

Yes it is strange and the new car industry is trying to push model year (I think it should be build date), however the used car side is still pretty 3rd world IMO and always calls the shots based on rego date. BMW were able to shift some "old stock" 7 series last year with 04 build dates

Didn;t want to start a new thread and tried to keep it in a general thread.

Has or Is anyone having problems with their power windows. My drivers side and passenger side front windows when closing do two things.

It either closes as per normal rate whether the engine be on or off or it closes very slowly almost to the point where it struggles to close, once again either with the engine on or off.

Anyone else had this issue?
Thanks

Hi guys, new here :)

I have been shopping lately around for a new car and I have really set my eyes on the new Holden Commodore VE SV6 ... I have test driven it and for what I will need form the car I like it very much, looks great imo.

Anyway .. in last few weeks I started doing bit more research on the net and I find lots of threads where ppl trash the VE series, not only SV6 ...

apparently there are problems with battery and many others and also I've read that Holden have received more complaints and repairs than ever on any car.

So what to think of this ? I love the looks of this car, thats a fact ... and I worked hard to save up $40K so I'd be one pissed off customers if it kept breaking down all the time.

Any owners out there that have one and have a good story to tell ?

thanks

Omarko I'm sure you will get lots of positive replies to your question. I myself have not regretted getting the new kid on the block. 9 months later am still loving the car and don't regret my decision to get one.

Sure it has had some minor issues which have been rectified, but you'll get that with the first ones off the factory floor in any new car....

Go and drive one and get to an LS1 get together in your area and speak to the VE owners....

Good luck...:)

I agree with jkgmh. I'd say a few of the earlier builds may have had some teething issues. I've got an sv6 and i have not had any problems with batteries, air con, stereo etc etc. My only issue and it is minor is seat belt squeak and drivers door creaking which is i believe just an adjustment. As for the car itself, I love it. yes its missing two cylinders but still goes well, ride and handles beautifully even though its been lowered and its pretty well put together.

Take a saturday morning and drive them either 6 and or 8 but a word of warning, should you drive the v8 be prepared to want to buy it. once you have driven it you will want it. i know for a fact even though i couldn't get one.

Only problem we have had is with the HVAC control - would not blow air towards the floor - other than that, love the car. It's surprising how many people have commented how roomy the car is inside. I just love the steering and ride /handling. Avg. fuel consumption is 11.6l/100km - 70:30 mix urban to Hwy travel.

As a comparo - lady at work has just bought a brand spanking new Camry - wouldn't believe it but the boot is full of water after all this rain - not a happy camper!!

Quick question...
Has anyone else experienced a vibration back through the steering wheel when cornering 'enthusiastically'. I have a little drive near home with some nice 90km/h switchback corners, and noticed recently the car had a rather nasty vibration. It wasn't feedback over bumps, as the road is perfectly smooth, and that's a different feeling to what this was. Bit unnerving... just wondering if anyone else has had any similar experiences?

Thanks

Pete

Hey Pete

Had something very similar late last year ..... Mine seemd to be at about 2,500-3,000 rpm or so .... ended up being a wheel alingment/balance issue.

after that, problem went away ...... strange how it appeared after the 3,000 first service !!
