t's an airship come giant floating television that viewers can watch more than a kilometre away.

Longer and taller than current generation Boeing 737 airplanes, the Holden Airship tonight will complete its maiden voyage when it floats over Sydney Harbour having departed Melbourne Airport last week.

It is expected to be over the harbour at 6pm (AEST).

Stretching 54.3 metres across and 6.8 metres tall it is filled with approximately five million litres of helium.

The red airship also boasts a giant television screen designed specially so it can be viewed from the ground.

Holden says it is the first airship in the world to have such a screen, which is 21.3 metres wide and 9.1 metres tall.

Caught a glimpse of it last night as well - for one terrible moment I thought it was something else & that some advertising company's promotion for womens hygiene products had gone horribly wrong...
Must have been a bitch flying it up to Sydney last week - we had strong winds nearly everyday (especially Wednesday & Thursday).

I saw it last night on my way home along Pennant Hills Road (at Pennant Hills). It's a big mutha!!!

I would have thought it a bit 'nothing' in the daylight, but at night time, very effective.

Update - at 1pm today it was over Kings Park and headed off towards a smoke column from a bush fire somewhere more west ... I'd dare say for a quick looksy and why the heck not. Was also visible on the M7.

Havent seen it at night though, could only imagine what it looks like.

My dissapointment is it uses the LCD TV to advertise in ... orange? At Oran Park I saw a colour video of a VE SS weaving in and out and around a mountanous scenic drive style road, but Ive only ever seen it advertise everything else in orange. Waste of a colour screen isn it?

I'd imagine its leaving Sydney shortly for Melbourne for a certain race weekend? Or is it staying in Sydney for a certain longer race event next in just over a months time?

I don't think that the blimp would have made it to sandown. I saw it heading towards canberra late on saturday afternoon. I am sure it will be at that certain race in october though.
