Just put on the K&N aircharger kit today and am pretty happy with it so far. makes the stock VX ss sound like it actually has a V8 under the bonnet when the foot goes down. I was wondering if anyone has any feedback in regard to any increase in fuel economy or anything else after putting on the kit. I notice that at 110km, I am doing the same rpm that i used to do at 100km. Thanks in advance

:1peek: errr, how does that work? An airfilter changes your gearing? Any pics of this device?

the air filter will not change gear ratios at all, what u are noticing is the engine is breathing better, hence engine is working easier.

what was the old air intake system like, eg air filter how dirty/blocked before u fitted it.

a very slight fuel economy change might be noticed, but nothing to save u big dollars at the pump.

Get a exhaust system and tune then notice a fuel economy change.

They do work, I've seen on an LS2 an 11rwkw increases (on dyno) with these air charger kits. But on the road at slower speeds things really heat up and intake temps sore skyhigh due to heat soak. So what I'd recommend is try and seal up the pod area (ie. make a cover for the top & seal the frame well with insulation). Once you have done this IMO these things work and flow a lot more than any 2 hole moded box.

In Victoria (and possibly some other states??) they are illegal as they are not enclosed. Glad I saw that on here a while ago as for a while there I was chasing one........ I wouldn't be worried about police but would be worried if I had an accident given the insurance company could potentially wipe the claim.

i got one of these on my vx ss - better than the stock set-up, but not sure about 11 rwkw better. I have noticed when the heat is on it suffers though, more so on long drives. I have bought an otrcai so i might have mine for sale soon if anyones interested. The induction roar is good too i concur lol.

just be careful that the bolts and belts that hold it up dont come loose so the aircharger starts sagging

i ended up with a busted transmission hose that leaked automatic transmission fluid all over the alternator and engine bay because the maf pipe drooped so low that it rested itself on the hose below and over time and alot of friction, the hose burst.

Just my 2 cents

Mate don't really care if you believe it or not. I've seen the dyno sheets which showed me an increase of 11rwkw. Although previous to this kit being fitted the car had 4-1 and dual 3". Wether the bigger zorst allowed the charger kit to work better, who knows. (zorst system was first dynoed with the standard air box). Unless you've dynoed the car before and after how can you judge an increase in kw@w? Besides do you honestly believe you would notice 11rwkw at the top of the rev range from the seat of your pants? :lmao: Please! Reminds me of the people who rave on about getting tunes and thinking they have some sort of animal, relax guys!

Fact is pod units work extremely well, but they need to be sealed or more accurately "shielded well" (to keep heat soak out). Plain and simple!

Not sure which version you're using, but the latest don't have any belts holding it up. The heat sheild is bolted in where the standard air box bolted into. The intake pipe is just that another intake pipe (although the inside is a lot smoother to help flow), so how you seen one sag is beyond me. I've seen one on an LS2 and it's been there for a year now and still as it was fitted. No problems!

Are these illegal in NSW?

Also, do you fit them yourself?

iv also seen dyno runs of these things done when the car has been idle for sometime, then driven around for a long time to warm up, then dyno'd again and achieve very different results - ie, they a great to dyno on a cool car/bonnet up!!!....look, im not saying they dont work and i never said i could feel it either, but i doubt 11rwkw increase from these things. The maf pipe is 3.5" i believe too, they are smaller than the hsv types

There is a bolt on the LS1 Aircharger that holds the MAF pipe in place which the other end is bolted to the engine block. There is only one version of the Aircharger so I am talking about the same one you are mate... there is a belt that wraps around the TB to keep the MAF pipe in place up the top.

I am not saying that it will, I am saying it can come loose. I had mine on for a year and it started sagging over time.

Dont get over your head about the fact that you have seen one on an LS2 and theres nothing wrong with it, as there can be if your not careful, like me.

Just put one in the other day noticable improvement, heaps better in the acceleration department, be interested to see what it`s like in the warmer
months though,, here are some pics>>

Man, if you want to massivley get rid of heat build up in the engine bay then get get rid of that friggin turtle shell. That thing retains heat like an oven.
