"If the thought of the new 500-hp Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang hedging in on the 505-hp Corvette Z06's territory raises your blood pressure, don't despair: Corvette chief engineer Tom Wallace has a 650-hp trick up his sleeve. A new super Corvette will build on the Z06's 7.0-liter LS7 V-8 that was developed in sync with the Corvette C6.R Le Mans racer. For this limited-production Vette, which might be called the Z07, Chevy will increase the LS7's displacement and bolt on a supercharger to bump output by 145 hp. The Z07, due in 2008, will be further differentiated from the Z06 by the use of more carbon-fiber body panels and a huge hood vent aimed at killing front-end lift. In true Corvette style, Chevy will undercut competitors by pricing the Z07 at about $100,000. This Corvette has been known within GM as the Blue Devil, after the mascot of GM CEO Rick Wagoner's alma mater, Duke, and also as the Sting Ray, but we think they'll go with Z07, or maybe Z06.R."

It will be a supercharged 6.2L not a 7.0L.

Superchargers are currently be used on HiPo Caddilac engines and will soon be introduced on GM Lx engines.

Remember when HSV were testing superchargers on their cars supposedly to be sold as an option... never eventuated... It would not suprise me to see a supercharger on the new VE GTS.

Love the vettes but hate this one. How many vents and air holes does this thing have?

Looks weird without a rear spoiler. The front's like the C6R, why cant they make the rear like that?

i dont kno.... it looks noice, but not really a corvette fan. Im more into the musclecar look so i'd prefer the GT500.
Rumour has it that the next viper coming out next year i think will bump up from 8.3 to 8.4L's, tuned by AMG to get about 600hp, tho these are just rumours.

yep seen those mules, but how much power will it have? the rumours are about 600hp. If the power figures for the Z07 are true, it'll need more than that since the vettes are light as!

Latest report is that it will have a Mclaren modified V10 of 8.3 litre capacity. About 615hp maybe slightly more.

How do you clean that thing?

Looks far too Lotus. Lucky the base car is so gorgeous.

OMFG! The last 'Vette looked like a Miata crossbred with a 60's Sunbeam Tiger - but at least the styling was somewhat coherent and it grew on me. This looks like a Japanese anime version of a Porsche! What were they thinking! The only way this is going to grow on me is like a brain tumour! Obviously all those digs from the Topgear guys are getting to Chevvy - they feel it has to look like a Ferrari or GT Ford wannanbe to get acceptance.

As for the Viper, extra horsepower will simply make it dynamically like a hyper-gravelwagon with the nose-heavy handling characteristics of a 1920's Oppenheimer. The current Z06 makes it look extremely silly unless it is wearing slicks and on a dragstrip - and the yanks wonder why no-one gives them credit for 'sportscars'. The current 'Vette also blows the GT500 away because - seemingly like Ford V8s in Oz - it is a lead-tipped arrow.

Z06/Z07,---I'm not fussy, I'd have either.
Cheers, Pickles.
