Not wanting to start another shitfight here.. I've done plenty of searching and i'm only after an opinion.
Picked up my VT LS1 a week and a half ago, fitted with the SS inductions big mouth kit and k&n panel filter..
Would i belefit from chucking the SS inductions jobbie in the bin in favour of MCAI with 2 hole mod?
sorry about digging up old shit..

Go with the MCAI with second hole mod or if you want more, go for an OTR. :burnout:

^^^^^ i agree OTR, then chuck the sscai on ebay with the other thousand in there.

yep, start a low bid for it on ebay, someone will buy it and not only will that easily fund a 2 hole mod job with alot of change, you will be better off without it.

Adam all is not lost.
Whilst I think SS stuff is shit you can join the SS inductions radiator cover section to the MCAI with reasonale results. Just remove the pipe connecting the radiator cover piece to the airbox, add the MCAI and perform the 2 hole modification on you airbox and you will most likely get better results.
This configuration will allow the SS inductions top half to dump air into the MCAI and removes the main restriction that the SS inductions intake has.
PLus it save you the $$$ for having to buy another radiatior cover from Holden.
Just a thought.

Adam all is not lost.
I think this is the preferred option. That's what I had done on the VY.

Adam you say that you did your research and you still purchased 1, WHY is that is it because like in my research it seems its only LS1.com key board warriors that dont like SS inductions cold airs. most comments people say is its much better than standard crap and looks factory, from what i see at many shows/car events there's hundreds of happy SS inductions customers, me well i still havent purchased one and when the $$ allows it will be a SS INDUCTIONS GROWLER SYSTEM thats my say..:stick:

yes i do recall a post by sonny with dyno proof - also i think it was Tron who had the ss inductions cai on his car who did the test also - ended up gaining 12rwkw form the mcai after taking the ss inductions cai off from memory

for nearly the same amount of money you can get an otrcai from a sponser (or not even a sponser for that matter) and get much better results than a growler which is just a pod filter....why bother?

I didnt purchase one matey.. It was already on the car when i bought it. The purpose of this thread was to ascertain wether taking it off would be beneficial.
So from what i gather, the best solution would be to get a hold of an MCAI and hook it up to the SS inductions gear, while doing the 2 hole mod for extra air?
sounds simple enough..

Happy or blissfully unaware? Not really the same.
As stated there was an open test done by Sonny at Marrano's for a member Tron2004 which confirmed that removing the SS ind intake GAINED POWER !
I would be taking the word of experienced tuners/mechanics such as 10sec_RX7 and Sonny at Marrano's re: their findings in regards to SS reductions intakes as opposed to the rant of someone has not got any real base for their posted opinion.
However, you go for it Wicky you get your SS inductions stuff and show everyone up. You won't be pleasantly surprised.
EDIT: I'm stuffed if I can find the thread with Sonny's SS inductions test results. Can anyone help out?

 Tis a great pity some of your own research did not extend to Willowbank Raceway……not too many LS1 drivers out that neck of the woods inclined to run a secondary handbrake......
Hundreds of happy SS Induction Customers.....

Ok I used Photoshop on the name of the shop to keep the peace and dont want to start any crap as I dont see the point but heres the graph.
1st line>This is with a full zaust (pacemaker triYs) SS inductions T.B,SS inductions "big mouth" CAI and Maffless edit.
2nd line>all the same bar the big mouth CAI and another OTRCAI with small amount more fule and advance. Now I am not saying the whole lot is just the CAI but I will say its alot of it.

By the way I do think the T.B is a good thing and yeah I know the valve springs are letting me down up to but thats getting fixed very soon ;).

This SS Inductions thread is flogging the proverbial deceased equine BUT here is a summary as I understand it:
1. The older style unit such as that fitted on the VT-VY is beyond doubt a bad thing. It will rob HP and this has been shown on the dyno but even more objectively, on the track time and time again.
2. The newer Growler DOES work and quite well but is not really cost effective when compared with the MCAI and probably not as good as an OTR.
