:burnout: Just had my 03 Monaro tuned by Sam's Performance.
Mafless tune, full sorst and cold air box. I was a little disappointed at first, due to not doing more than 2-2.5k revs during my test drive . But...... after taking it on the open road and letting it rip...WOW full wheel spin in 2nd gear whilst doing 70kmh in a manual !!!

Sam got 311.1 rwhp =232rwkw and said that equates to about 311flykw and was a good result. I did'nt do the diff gears (should have..)

Does that sound about right 311.1 rwhp = 311 flykw ??????

yeah it does IMO

:burnout: Yeah - you are dead right. I was a little concerned about reving too much at 100kmh, but I think it should ok with the increase in torque.

By the way vt350phantom, what did figures did your beast pull ?

You will hardly notice the rpm difference with 3.9s, but driveability is way better! My car managed 227rwkw prior to the diff. Don't know what rwkw difference the diff has made (if any????), it would be interesting to dyno it again though.

I'm planning to get a cam soon so hopefully I can achieve somewhere around 270 to 280 rwkw :nyuk:

diff wont change rwkw but it will change the torque figures

Thanks, I thought that was the case

No I don't think it would gain anything. The power would just move to a different range in the graph.

:burnout: Thanks guys - vt350Phantom let us know your stats when you have the work done.

By the way, what would be the highest pwr/tq that anyone has achieved for the basic upgrade (cai, mafless tune, full sorst) but nothing more ???

I thought the best numbers from Sam's were about 240rwk, but has anyone heard better ?????

vt350phantom

Do a search mate. I seem to recall a few cars went over 240, however they are rare. In any event, dyno figures can be fudged, MPH at the strip is the true test.

243rwkw on a DynoLog when stock bolt-on no converter. That was a cold winter night. Averaged 235rwkw throughout the year. Best 12.6@112MPH 3.73 gears, stock stall.

Now my fuel economy reads like that dyno graph... But you get that...

rwkw sounds about right - mine puts out 240rwkw with mafless tune, otrcai, catback exhaust and 10% under drive pulley with std VYII headers.

Next has to be brakes for you with that sort of power .............

Nutter

Dyno figures are not accurate but with that said for bragging purposes anyway mine cranked 245rwkw on 32 degree day and runs 113 mph in full weight, spare wheel etc, no internals no otrcai.

yeh well done mate...

Diff gears make a difference in the driving side of things being a fellow 03 Monaro much more fun...

nice to hear ppl's first time reactions after tunes etc ..

cheers

Changing the diff ratio to 3.91 is a great mod, one of the best value for money mods we do.

:headbang: Thanks guys - all good stuff.
I think I will need to take her over the 1/4 mile next.

Maybe a stroker job next - 383 or 402 ???

Any of you guys had your Ls1/2 stroked, and if so what figures are you making ????

Mine is 412ci 500rwhp but has real good heads, massive cam and 8tb's

:burnout: Justice R8, that is srious pwr. Would you say it is a good daily driver?? I would prefer something with perhaps little less power, but more driveability. I must say 500hp at the flyw and and the same in tq would be great if the cam was'nt too wild.

I think you are right about the diff gears, Animal ( Sam did tell me to em also) - looks like I'll be back for a change to 3.9 !

The 8tb and a good tune really smooth out the big cam in it. I was using it as a daily driver until it was pulled out, as it is going into the other red caged car that is at Sams.

Probably wouldnt use it as a daily as it has too much power unless your prepared to run better tyres. Anything around 360 - 400rwhp makes a really good street car with usable power. Too often we all get caught up in a number

:headbang: Right on....I have 311.1rwhp as at Friday and still in the process of testing her. I understand that this is about the same in flywKW ie. approx 311KW. ( am loving it so far)

I don't think there really is choice - STROKE ME BABY... FOR THE NEXT MOD !!

You got the same power as I did. Definately get the 3:9s.

Mr Gen
21-08-2006, 04:39 PM
i also got my headers and exhuast done at sams really great bloke goes through everything with ya he really knows his shit but yeah 3.9s really opens the sucker up gives a really good kick on my auto ,dosnt really effect fuel usage if thats a worry and booking it at sams in bout 2-3weeks for a mafless tuneyou cant go wrong!

;) Thanks Scotty - I think you are right about the gears ( although based on the amount of wheel spin in my manual I may not need to change - still considering). Great to hear you are doing the same numbers. Is yours a manual or auto ?

Great to hear you are doing the tune Mr Gen, it really is noticeable above 2000 revs ( a little scary in fact)

Be careful ... once you have a stroker, you never look back.

And comments from the other guys are correct, dyno numbers are for bragging rights, driving down the street or a run at the stip will always provide some better results.

And if you want to come for a drive in one, I live in Baulkham Hills. Send me a PM and we can arrange a time.

Heya Chris,

You know, I saw those two military guys twisting your arm up your back - forcing you to move to Canberra too :)

Sam did that to me, let me take his stroker for a drive. I came back and bloody bought one.

Got that belt issue sorted out yet mate ?

More like the missus twisting my arm, but it's all good I scored a great new job which I'm loving.:D

Yeah sorted that all out, I bought a new pulley off ebay but before getting it I took to mine with a die grinder which has worked well so far.
So I havent bothered putting the new pulley on (that will have to be machined down before fitting anyway)

I built & tuned my 383 to a healthy 440 rwhp / 328 rwkw & still run the stock 3.46 diff & M6 !! With a little more fuel supply & a couple of minor changes to it's current configuration , there should be a bit more to be had !! I drive it every day & would have 2 agree that a diff change would help with drivability in the 50 kph streets :yup:

25-08-2006, 08:22 AM
 Wow vuss383 that means your beast is doing about 440kw at the fly or close to 600 hp !!!! Mmmmmm.... very tasty !

Hey commodoreone, sound like Sam the Man has done it Again !!
What headers and exhaust did you get fitted ?

Animal

I think they were all H&M gear - both the headers and the shiny new stainlees steel system.

It sounded dam fine during the dyno runs too.

:yup: Yes guys - Sam did indeed do it again. H&M headers and the shiny new ss system makes her purr now.

I have a 350 powered 1978 Chev Camaro - after this experience I am thinking of replacing the plant with an Ls1 stroker , maybe 402 - Modernise the beast with something smoother & more grunt.

That would be a pretty cool upgrade, I havent seen many earlyer model Comaro's with a LS1 conversion yet.
