Was anyone else surprised the Barina scored the lowest in safety standards?
Two stars is pretty poor. And to be beaten by a Hiace van! Ouch.

These Korean POS are just damaging the Holden brand. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!
Not surprised at all. They are rubbish and shouldn't be purchased.
Holden's biggest mistake bringing them here.

Old Daewoo product = bad (Holden had no choice)
New GM Daewoo product = good (Holden had a hand)
Short term this will damage Holden, however in the long term Daewoo will be better for Holden.

TK Barina is one of the greatest success stories for Holden. Whether or not you like them, they are a brand new motor vehicle for under 14k and unfortunately they are selling like hot cakes....
I can't see Holden worrying too much :stick:

Not surprised in the least mate. You are aware its a Daewoo? The outgoing Euro Opel model Barina is renowned to be a better car than this piece of Daewoo crap.

The Opel Corsa of two models ago - pre 2004 also got 2 stars in ANCAP testing, coupled with Euro faults and problems. The last Corsa got 4 stars - but in Europe, fitted with side airbags and active head resraints, $2000 worth removed from the 2004 Barina, which was still a $16-17K plain yoghurt car that a dealer made $600 on. Hence none sold, compared to $13K Hyundais and $15K Starlets and Echos.
And the '97-2003 Opel some interesting Euro traits of it's own, including 37Kw or 66hp in single cam 1400cc form.
The Daewoo-built Chev Aveo/Holden Barina is the top selling car in it's class in the US, Europe and would be in Oz if they could source more of them. Factory is so maxed out they are about to start building Europe's in Poland.
We might not like them, but Holden put the price up $500 recently without affecting sales because they are sold out, and dealers make $2K on each one - you may not like dealers but that is better for them and Holden than $600. If the new Fiat Punto-based version came here it'd be a $20K car.

As already stated, Holden has had to make do with these pre-existing Daewoo designed models in the short term until the new generation Holden engineered models are released, which should see safety improved dramatically.
As the ANCAP tests have become much stricter than before, it would be fair to assume that a two star car would be as safe as a 3/4 star car under the old tests. Now those ford people who are quick to critisize, ever heard of the saying "people in glass houses"?? Remember the Ford Festivas? They only scored 1 star under the old less stringent tests. You see them at the auctions with only a minor impact at the front yet the steering wheel has intruded almost up to the drivers seat. Now these are REAL death traps.

Do NOT accuse me of taking threads off topic as it is YOU that has clearly done that in this instance. What I said was relevant and on topic but you had to be a smartarse and try to pick holes in what I had said.
And I wasn't referring to Ford people in this thread only, but in general.
Now back on topic please.

I wouldnt have thought so mate. Why would you get so defensive and agressive then? Why bring up "Ford People" in the thread in the first place?
Cant get any more O/T than that while we are talking about Daewoo Barinas.

I own a AH Astra 2005 model and other friends who have the same, comment on how sturdy the car is compared to the Korean built GM's.
If the next model Astra is built in Europe, I will most certainly buy it. If it is made in Korea, I might think twice about it.
