Hey guys

Any wheel & tyre experts around, I have a question for you??

I have a vxss with king superlows:
Front KHFL-47HD
Rear KHRL-46HD
Wheels are standard vxss 235x45x17.

I'm looking at various options to raise the car another 10mm due to it being a little to low (defect notice), main issue is the extractor clearance.

What effect would 245x35x19 have on the cars ride height?
My calulations say 19's would raise the car 15.4mm (around half an inch) over 17's, would this be correct??

Just want to know if this is going to help solve my problem before I run out and consider 19's, would appreciate your input, and if your experience or calculations support mine.

I have been to a few wheel/tyre experts and recieved conflicting advice.

Also if someone can measure their 19s from hub to top tyre and ground to top tyre would also help.

Cheers.

another option is spring pads that go under the tps of the springs. noltec selll them and come in different sizes up to like 15mm

You can also go onto the tyre company websites and they have specifications of their different tyres. On there you can get the overall diameter and compare the two tyres to get the height differences.

235/45r17 and 245/35r19 have a similar overall diameter. The car will look higher because of the decrease in sidewall height. ( A bigger gap in the wheel arch ) If they OD changes too much you will put out the speedo and will need to recalibrate it. VX 11 HSV standard 19" - no problems there.
Hope it helps. If you're looking for 19' let me know.

Hi Monaro57,

I measured the standard HSV 19's on my GTS for ya..

hub to top tyre = 33cm
ground to top tyre = 63.5cm

Cheers

Instead of raising the car 10mm with new springs, or spending a grand on new rims, why dont you raise the exhaust?

Cut the flange off the extractors and get them raised 1cm closer to the body.

Also 245/35 tyres will only raise the car 5mm compared to your current tyres.

Where the hell did you get 14mm from? lol

I'm hearing ya bloke, I have a VX SS with superlows in front and ultalows in the rear, with stock SS 17's. Looks an absolute treat but the flange of the paceys are nortorious for sitting low at the best of times. I think it comes down to a compromise between performance and practability. As far as bigger rims increasing ground clearance, if you put a commodore 17 inch rim and a commodore 19 inch rim side by side they will be the same size due to different profile tyres.

Thanks for the replies.
I have since worked out where I went wrong with measurements, asking around also confirms approx 5mm difference, thanks.

Zombee - Thanks for measuring up.

Blown V8 - I know about rear spacers/spring that come in 10 or 6mm, might investigate and ask around about the possibility for the front coil spacer and where I can get them. Have you heard of a form of spacer that mounts on the top of the strut tower which was possibly used in some of the older cars to raise the front end a few mm....?

I have been to an exhaust specialist who had a look under the car, nothing he can do about the 4into1 headers.

I'm trying to find a compromise between me and the couple of mm's that cause me conflict with the boys in blue.
