Just wondering who people are using for their late model bike insurance? Idea of premiums would also be appreciated. I have to find an insurer for the Daytona.

I have my 1995 ZX9R through Shannon's. Cost me $400 a year, insured for $9000.

Its only so cheap because I have my ute insured through them as well, before I had the ute it was about $800 from memory.

Yeah, they are my best so far also, $580 for an '05 Daytona for $11k. Just wanted to make sure I was getting a good deal.

Simo "Western QBE " has been the cheapest for me for the past 10 years = current bike value $52k policy = $979 pa = 1800 24 34 64 . Another very good company is "NEIB" 07 46812877 always have been very fair - I insured thru them when I lived in the NT.

I have used a few over the years..QBE
and recently Swann..who are excellent
(price was good and claims handling even better)
but when i bought the ZX12r...I rang lots
and
Shannons got the guernsey....
why??
agreed value ...$12 large for a 2001 model
helmet and leathers cover (up to $1500)
how much...??? $720pa..payable monthly

comparison?
Swann (my previous) at $810
QBE....$1205:weirdo:
Arista quoted $1125 !

Thanks all for the help. Problem I have had up here, is some insurers won't touch you in the NT, or offer ridiculous premiums. GIO will only cover up to 20% no claim in the NT....my price...$2900
I politely declined the offer.

Smitty: just checked Shannons after your gear cover comment, and as I recalled it is $3k for the rider and $1500 for pillion, so better than you thought!

Hi.

Western QBE. For my old girl, ~$250 PA, but did get some prices earlier this year on an '05 ST3, and they were cheapest, compared with Swann.

Some other things that make a big difference, some might be obvious, some might not:

1. Postcode - particularly if it's a bike popular with thieves..
2. Garaged or not..
3. Insurance Record - have you had claims before (bike - from my experience, car'd don't count...but check...)
5. Driving record - ie. a prior DUI, (even some years ago..) etc
6. Age.
7. Additional riders (age + record)
8. Finance.
9. The bike...ie. a 999 vs say a 620 monster.
10. Track days (carefull - you probably won't be covered - check)
11. Off Road use - is that K1100RT covered if you drop it on the way into the Alpine rally??
12. Modifications - is that exhaust 'Not for highway use'?

other factors that *may* get you a discount..
13. Approved Rider training.
14. Club membership (some companies, do, some don't)
15. Pay in full on a yearly basis.

HTH.

YMMV

Cheers

Laurie.

Shannons were cool with mods
yes sir.... we are happy to insure yr ZX12R
with a $1500 titanium zorst system
and no xztra premium and so were Swann

mods with Western QBE...were a no-no on mine
not sure why:weirdo:

Yeah, that's what's making Shannons look good...mods. I've got a titanium pipe, and am looking at doing a bit of computer editing too. Not that you can tell edits by looking at the bike :)

Another vote for Shannons, the thieves at QBE and Swann quoted $1500-1600 for my 05 ZX-10R, rang Shannons and got it for $800 based on limited K's per year, it also includes my gear, braided lines and Akro Ti muffler, they will also cover you for rider traning days on a track but unfortunately not track days :)

From what I've looked into, most will cover Govt approved rider training (track) courses...and so they should too!

I Forgot to add...

16. Reduced usage premium's. ie. if you only clock up 5,000km P.A it *may* entitle you to a discount....sometimes a substantial one. Check first.

17.Grey Import. - *some* insurance co's may not touch them.

18. Named rider on the policy. - means that only the policy holder can use the bike, and repairers.
20. Alarm/immobiliser - iirc, H.D's insured with some co's have to have one fitted..

HTH

YMMV

:-)

Laurie.

PS. Most of us are aware of the above, but it still pays to ask about *all* of the above when neogiating a new premium/contract. You may save yourself some money - as we all know, bike insurance costs can be scary!

Brand new CBR1100 Blackbird : Dealers Insurance company Swann was $950, I did some shopping around. Shannons and QBE over $1200 , Arista $704. When I told dealer I was going with Arista he dropped $250 to $700. Makes you wonder how much commission the dealers get from the insurance companies??

Thanks to all for the input. My biggest problem has been living in the NT. 90% of insurers won't touch it, and the rest charge like wounded bulls. I really think the "no insurance" idea is great! :weirdo:

Anyway, Shannons got my vote, and they even include windscreen cover, which is great.

Renewal for 05 HD from QBE $764.00 for $27000 agreed. Penalty for 6 month payment $150. Was 8000km limit on original policy, think that still applies. Quote from Just Insurance for $28000 agreed is $395.29. Unrestricted use. No penalty for pay by month.

Buell xb12r $600 annual.. agreed value and TRX 850 $400 agreed value
and ZRX1200 $450. We do however have our home and contents as well as dirtbikes through Shannons.... I also work in a bike shop and any repairs we have had to do for people through Shannons seems to be great service.. So claiming seems pretty good too... That's important.

Mine is with BMW Insurance (policy is actually Allianz), $657 for a new R1200RT @ market value (mid $30k's). Same insurer with my cars, they've proven to be very competitive and, on the cars, the cover includes windscreen replacement. Very handy with screens over $1200 each these days!

New Bike insurer that was lunched today that I thought you guys might like to know about.

www.insuremyride.com.au

They are a sister company of Shannon's who deal with the more main stream stuff that falls outside the guidelines of Shannon's.

They are mostly a web based company ATM but you can still call them by going through Shannon's (13 46 46) and asking to be put through to them.

I looked at a number of places and so far western qbe was the best if u are riding daily or communting, though will be cheaper for weekend riders and less kays. Shannons were good but prefer enthusiast that only ride on the weekend, plus dont insure under 25 so that was bad 4 me. I got a quote form nrma for gsxr1000 k5 and they wanted 3700 whereas qbe only wanted 1800.

There is a company called dirt bike insurance (Jardine Lloyd Thomas) they do 3rd party and theft and also transit insurance while it's on the trailer. Prices are reasonable, :teach:

Another vote for Shannons here, reason:

They're top guys, understand bikes and cars and the cover is better than any other that I found.

I've insured my car and my CBR1000RR with them for two years, I pay a bit more since I modded the bike with Ohlins road and track forks and 3 way shock, but before that it was cheaper than the rest to insure through Shannons. (before mods: $715, after $930)

The BIG plus is Shannons insure you on any rider training.. so the superbike schools I've always wanted to do have been done and the upcoming circuitbreakers.com.au race school is fully covered too.

I ever asked if Shannons cover the bike while its on the trailer heading up to Eastern Creek - yes.. fully covered wherever it is!

One last thing, if you ride to work Shannons will not insure you.. strange since people could in theory ride less k's commuting to work than the limited use policy allows... but if you want to insure with Shannons then you cant be riding to work - well, the guy actually said "like once a month is okay I guess, but don't be making a habit of it" !!! :)

P.s. Your bike has to be in a locked Garage every night too!

Awesome company... (heres where I'm meant to chime in with their 134646 number, but I wont)

:)
