just though i would post up whats going through my mind the past few weeks which im organising.
Got my VX Clubsport, and all this reading about intakes, exhuausts, OTRs, tunes, mafless tunes....
has got me investigating ALOT!!!
What I had come up with which I was almost going to go ahead with has changed already many times!!
I was firstly looking into the dual 2.5" sureflo system and the single 3.5". Ended up going with the single 3.5" - loud system.
Second I was going to get just a MAF mail order tune from chipmaster.
And that was it..
but then was looking into the OTR intakes, and going mafless, etc...
So still the 3.5" exhaust but with the sureflo OTR and a mafless mail order edit.
But now.... (Sorry for the essay)
I actually met up with 'sscovill' who has a VY clubby with the sureflo 3.5" loud system, 4" maf pipe with 2 hole mod and mafless tune from APS. And he got 235rwkw out of that!!
And I LOVED the sound of the 3.5" loud system!!! sounded bloody nice.
So my final list I got is,
1) Sureflo 3.5" loud system - driving upto sydney to see family in 4 weeks so little detour past sureflo on the way
2) 4" intake pipe with 2 hole mod
3) Custom Mafless tune from APS (when i get back from sydney in about 5 weeks)
Money was an issue so in the begining but as you can see as it goes along just gets more and more exspensive.... havn't told the misses just yet...
I would go with a OTR instead of the 2 hole mod and 4" pipe but just becomes to much for now. And I can always upgrade that later on.
So thanks for reading all this and I look forward to any comments!!
Sorry for writing so much!!
Thanks,
Adrian

all i can say is it'll totally transform your car! you'll love it!
maybe put the tune on hold till you get headers ... or just get it retuned later (works out cheaper to leave tune till last) really depends how long you will be satisfied with what you have lol which isnt long
i had all the work done to my car end of june, its half way through august and im reading about cams etc etc lol it never ends!

Don't knock the mail order tune.
I got 237 rwkw out of a Chip Master mail order mafless tune.

not knocking it!! haha
just for same price really instead of OTR and mail order I can get a custom tune to my car
so do i go OTR with mafless mail order
or
4" intake/2 hole mod and custom mafless tune
any thoughts guys?

OTR will def give u gains over the GTS pipe and 2hole mod
but if your after a stock underbonnet appearance then OTR wont be ideal
probably pick up an extra 5rwkw from the OTR over the other setup but thats hardly noticable unless your chasing figures.
IMO go the 4"/2hole with custom mafless

yea thats what im thinking
what you done to urs?
vyssbeast
23-08-2006, 10:03 PM
got the headers done, opened up cats, dual 2.5"
GTS pipe 2 hole mod changed filter and mafless tune
just the basics but damn makes a massive difference to how it drives!!
oh and the nice little surprise it leaves is a decrease in fuel consumption, but thats only when you stop flooring it everywhere coz your lovin the power lol

I noticed the difference the OTR made on my cammed ute, over the gts cai. I got a 12hp (9rwkw) gain. Also a 84mm throttlebody makes a nice difference to throttle response (just to give you more things to think about)
Go for it mate, give it 3 months im sure you will want more

My VX Clubby has an LS1EDIT.com.au MAFless tune, Higgins Throttle body, OTRCAI and 3000 High stall. Exhaust is a Difillipo catback twin 2 1/2" into single 3 1/2" with HM Tri Y's. Its very loud and raspy as all hell and the drone can be unbearable. The car also hammers like all f*** and it takes off pretty quick, with smooth gear changes (for an auto). The car is also quite low, a little bit too low when I think about it
But today I'm having new Pacemaker tri y extractors, new high flows and a Manta rear resonator fitted for overall sound really. Should keep the drone out of the cabin.
All I need now is a set of 3.9 diff gears and a cam and i'll be set :D

Here's my story,
When I got my Stato (I call it Brutus) The 1st thing i got done (after one month) was a custom 2 1/2 cat exhaust from the lads at Sureflo and I also fitted a K&N Filter.
Took it to Sam and he dynoed it at 184rwkw.
I didn't do any other upgrades till last week (1 1/2 years!). I took it to a mates work shop to initally fix an oil leak but since it was there I got him to:
1. Cold air intake system (Modified monaro intake.)
2. F.A.S.T manifold (I initially wanted an LS6 but he managed to source a FAST at a cheaper cost)
3. replace my Stock 3.08 non LSD with a 3.73 LSD Diff
4. Finally they did an LS1 edit for me. (conservative tune)
Now it's pulling 224rwkw (300rwhp)
Still working in the Diff but I have to tell you it was the best thing I've done!!!
Next are the brakes then headers and 3000 stally (in that order)
Like you I took my time and read alot of the advice and experiences in the forum.
I could have done all this in the 1st week of recieving the car but since this was my 1st V8 in almost 8 years and also the Biggest V8 I have ever had, I took my time because I wanted to get to know the car first such as the performance, handling, fuel milage, noises etc....
I believe that I would know the difference the mods made alot better hence the experience.
cheers

Dont HSV VXs have extractors standard?
vyssbeast
24-08-2006, 07:30 PM

I too have a VX Clubby and my mods so far are:
Lowered, edit, OTR, Di Filippo 1 7/8 headers and dual 3" inch with H/F cats, 3.9's, 3000 stally in that order. The car was edited before I bought it. I currently have approximately 235rwkw. I haven't had it dynoed since the OTR but when Sonny was having a look while it was on the dyno he found that I had standard timing and a wierd tune. After we put the exhaust on just with a simple timing adjustment we could get it up to a safe 248rwkw. But no point as in about 4 weeks will be back in to get UDP, Ported/Polished TB and custom mid-high 220 custom grind.
Good luck. Once the mod bug bites it bites hard

thats some good numbers, let us know what you got after the next mods.
well when i talked the misses into allowing me to get the car i said i wasnt going to do anything
and already within a couple months i was just looking at a simple exhaust but now getting exhaust, intake, and mafless tune.
i reckon ill get to end of year before i get bitten again!! :yup:

sounds good. i have a vt2 gen3 with mafless tune, 2 hole air box gts pipe, exhaust and extractors and i got 232rwkw.
i'm now chasing ls6 manifold and 3.46 gears.
ok I have to ask because I am clueless.....
Whats the differance between a maffless tune and a tune/edit?

if you type in the search mafless tune you will get 100s of posts regarding that question.
Your car will have a MAF (Mass Airflow sensor) inbetween the intake pipe and the airbox, a normal tune keeps the MAF.
Where as in a MAFLESS tune they remove the MAF and tune the car to be used without it.
The tune ends up being much better without the MAF as it is removing something from the intake, allowing much better air flow. Resulting in a better tune with higher power.
I think that summarises it in a pretty simple way.
