Yeah redbook is pretty good it also has some performance figures.

www.carsales.com.au then click on research also has much the same stuff as does www.drive.com.au Check all 3 and compare to get accurate stats.

Most car enthusiasts are well aware of the redbook site and it's virtually always inaccurate vehicle value figures.

Just a quick example of the above. Just looking to buy a car for my son. Have pick a VS 11 Executive with 5 speed manual. I decide now we know what car to get to check the Redbook resale so I know how much to offer private sale.

National average private sale $2,800 - $4,700. Now I am thinking I might get a couple of them at this price.

I don't know where the price comes from but A. Very few manuals around and B I havn't found any that are in good nick under $6K, so can someone let me know where I can get this one for $2,800

Redbook pricing is dodgy. It's put together by dealers and insurance companies for their own benefit, so that when you try to trade in your car there is a "national price average" much lower than what you should get. Also, insurance companies use it for their "agreed market value" so you get less than you should when your toy disappears from the shopping centre.

Redbook obtains its figures from the RTA - you know when you sell a car how you list the sale price on the RTA Notice of disposal. Problem is many people lie on this so they don't have to pay as much stamp duty on the transaction which is why Redbook can get some pretty low values.

Having said that I have generally found Redbook to be fairly accurate on resales - just because people ask much higher than redbooks figure dosn't mean they obtain it.
