i think it needs a new font :)

apart from that it's pretty good, shouldn't we put an HSV E series up there though?

no offence but not sure if i like it all that much .... i think an SSV might look beter ... or a hsv?? just not the image this forum associates with, being the performance imagine i mean ... or even a caprice still looks abit sportier than the calais (if thats what it is)
redoctober you have some good photoshop skills maybe you can make up a new banner for people to have a look at ??? your call

I see a red Calais V with the optional 20" wheels? Not sure wether the font of "Australian LS1 and Holden Forums" is different.

Maybe you have to clear your browser cache?

Maybe you have to clear your browser cache?
:yup: ... thanks for that.

Personally, I liked the Monaro more. The Calais is nice, but I would have gone for the GTS, or if had to be a Holden an SS-V with 20s.

bah, ya sooks!

'bout time a dark red calais took centre stage!!!

I hear they are the ducks guts :D

Actually, maybe a granada mica VT/VX calais with a front mount intercooler would be a better choice, as it has style, performance .... AND an LS1 :p

just a thought, but im a big fan of the new logo :D :)

Who says a Calais can't be performance enhanced ????

I think the logo looks great. Its showcasing the new VE, we're keeping up with the times, and its good for a change :)

Well let's see .. to answer some of the comments..

Thankyou to those who like it, I personally like it alot :D .. and the designer of the logo (who remains anonymous) is also happy with the result and appreciates the praise.

The font is not changing and will not change, we need a common logo/branding for the forums plus any merchandise we produce in the future and this is it.

Choice of car.. Well I quite like the Calais-V and who said that SS-V or HSV's were the only performance vehicles out there .. I've seen some damned fast execs ... :p The point is this is not a performance forum per se but an enthusiasts community forum for the Holden Marque. Maybe I should get it redesigned with a barina .. :p Available images of the VE are fairly limited now so colour and wheel options are somewhat restricted.

In summary, the logo will change in the future and probably have a different car .. but the font will not :)

Is it possible to have a script that uses a random image? IE have 3-5 images with different cars all facing the same way and same angle, same font and placement of the text.

Script just picks a random picture and displays that each time a user requests a page? But please if you do this, do NOT put up a Barina!!

Then have VE's, VY-VZ, VT-VX and concepts as well. Would keep everyone happy!

That is a top idea. I must admit, whilst I love the Calais and might even get one in the next year or two, I think a more performance orientated Holden or HSV would be better. The SS-V pics look great. The Calais one also looks great but I don't know why it was chosen. At least rotating images would make everyone happy and display the variety of our chosen beasts.:girl:

I didn't have the font, i tried to reproduce it quickly to get one online. Low quality + Pen tool doesn't scream accuracy. I do all this for a living so please don't doubt my ability :)

If I had the PSD + Font I could whip up something awesome.

Not really refined enuff .. and car is pointing the wrong way .. :p

I always thought that images on the edge of a page should 'face' inwards, towards the centre of the page to point peoples attention to the main area of the page, ie the middle - thus car should point right, which think looks better anyway.

Just my 2c worth.

And would be good to make it smaller or get rid of the add or move the add...
Horizontal scrolling is bad....Not everyones graphics cards will support higher resolutions - and as the average age on here isn't 16, I'm guessing not everyones eyesight is that good :) (understand that the logo is going through a change over period)

if you placed the ad below the header, and centered both, it'd fit on 800x600 (which is the lowest res in common use besides 1024x768), and it'd look fine :)

HRT433
29-08-2006, 10:00 PM
this is what I posted in the "page width" thread:

its because of the larger ls1 banner at the top.

combined width of the ls1 banner and the ad is almost 1070, which is as 'narrow' as the page will get.

if the ls1 banner is made about 600-620(max) wide then it should still fit 1024x768

When I use Firefox I don't get the banner on the LHS, only the words "Australian LS1 and Holden Forums" and sometimes on the RHS the Sponsors banner shows up and sometimes it doesn't. This only started happening last night.

I also can't add in the smilies since last night when I am posting, and this reply box I'm typing in goes over the RHS of the screen and past it ??? When I click in the smilies box on "more" nothing comes up. Also just noticed some people's avatars are not showing up, just "XXXX's avatar wording".

When I go through internet explorer all of the above resolve themselves except the fact that the page is wider than the screen.

Is anyone else finding this issue ? Does it mean I have to use IE as it is slower than Firefox...

`redoctober
29-08-2006, 10:32 PM
I don't know anyone using 800x600 ...
It's still one of the most commonly used resolutions for the non computer savvy, most sites are tailored to fit in 800x600+. Though, I suppose you could do it as 1024x768+ because recently an article on digg showed that the most commonly used resolution (apart from 800x600) is 1024x768, with something like 50% of all people on 1024x768, 30% on 800x600, and 20% on 1280x1024+.

So go with the 1024 width if you want, but being able to fit in 800x600 is the standard site width.

PS- I'm a web designer if anyone doubts what I've just said..

if you're on 1024x768 that's because of the new banner (it's too big) and it's happening to everybody else on the forums as well, sidewindr's trying to fix it at the moment so it should be fine within a day or so. if you're on a larger resolution and its still happening, add me on msn (robert'at'jusworldwide.com, replace 'at' with @) or email me at the same address and i'll try help you iron out any problems.

Whilst we are talking about screen resolution issues, i'll air that there's still a problem which started happening about 3 weeks prior to the site upgrade when viewing at 240 x 320. (Pocket PC resolution).

In the old days, images would compress to fit screen. The logo would shrink down and also other pictures displayed on screen, so scrolling left to right was minimal.
Now the logo and other pictures remain latrge.

Not sure if there's any discussions about that on the vbulletin forums or not.

Cheers,
Seedy

If you run anything narrower than 1280x1024 (ie 1024,768, 800x600 and god forbid 640x480) then Yes the combined width of the forum banner and the ad will be wider than the forum.
