Hi,

Being a newbie on here :bravo: , I am going to ask a really stupid question about the above three engines. I am putting one of these in a project I am building, which I intend to have registered (in NSW) and I was wondering how different the mounting points are between all three engines. The reason I ask this is I have an LS1, but it may be too old for ego. So I may do all the fitting work and postioning with the LS1, and go with an L76 when it comes time for rego and engineering

I read on here today that the LS2 and L76 have the same block, and I have been told before that the LS1 and LS2 are interchangeable (as far as mounting goes). So I would assume that all three engines use the same dimensions with regard to mounting and gearbox mounts. Or am I being totally naive...

I am planning on putting a T56 behind it. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

tell us what the project is!

...then you find out about the mounts :nyuk: :)

Hi,

I'm building a Cobra replica, and using the LS1, LS2 or L76. And the LSx or L76 engines fit in the engine bay. With the new regs that cam in for Jan 2006, it need sot be a current emission compliant engine to get past rego.

So dropping an LS1 (or other) in the front.

Can tell you that an LS2 block mounts exactly the same as an LS1 block, LS1 mounts, clutch, bellhousing & T56 is no problem.

VX-300,

Thanks for that. I have an LS1, with a T56. Clutch, all the mounting bolts and bellhousing. The reason for my question is that the engine may not pass rego, so I wanted to see if I go about mounting the LS1, how hard it will be to change if the LS1 goes pairshaped at rego time.

I see.
Nuts and bolts and clanky bits are the least of your worries. They're all interchangable.
I'd be more concerned about which computer and wiring looms to fit if I were you.
It will get complicated real fast if you need to change to an engine with a FBW throttle body and a 58x crank reluctor wheel.

VX-300,

Yeah I understand. Wiring loom will also be a biggi, as will throttle body. The big issue is that once I have the body on, I need to do a whole bunch of other fitting stuff. The engine can be removed pretty easy, but gearbox is impossible.

I suppose, I am trying to understand how big a job it wil be and if it is feasible if rego goes pairshapoed with and older LS1.
