Hi All..

This is my first post on LS1.com as i am looking to change from my WRX to either an SS V8 ute or a V6ute..

Orginally i planned on a V8 however with petrol prices continuing to rise i am more and more worried about resale value of a V8 in a couple of years..

how easy/expensive is it to install a turbocharger or a supercharger on a VU V6 motor???

and which is the better alternative...

Just trying to get some info before i make up my mind... sorry if its a amature question, i am pretty new to the holden scene as i am used to rex's...

Cheers

Sam

Best thing to do is get a V8 and then get an Edit (which will give a little better fuel economy and more power... best of both worlds) If you want to do engine mods do them before the edit.

The ecotec drinks just as much fuel as the V8's especially the supercharged version.

I know how this is gonna sound, but I don't care  .... what exactly is an 'edit' ??

sorry...a little new at this stuff.

if you are only after 25 - 30% power increase for about $2K check this kit out http://www.rodshop.com.au/superchargerholdv6.htm

the toyota supercharger runs on a clutch and has a bypass so if you dont have the pedal down then you arent wasting energy turning the supercharger

for any more power you would be looking at a centrifigal s/c kit, but then you would probably be better off selling the ute and getting an LS1 and editing it

yeah... i haven't got a ute yet... just deciding on wether or not to do the V6 or V8...

Looks like i might end up doing the V8 with an edit...

Has anyone here tried the CAPA GEN-PD LS-1 Supercharger kit for the LS1???

i realise this in only for an LS1 but it seems pretty cheap for the power increase.. up to 365kw..

any feedback???

You will still need the Tune to match the supercharger, im sure you would be better off with a Cam, Exhaust and Tune, may work out bit cheaper, others may prove me wrong though

The Gen-PD kit is good for the money but remember you cannot get much more out of it. If you are after a good comfortable daily driver and want the satisfaction of doing most of it yourself it is a good thing.
Bare minimum is a good 2 bar tune and upsized injectors on top of the standard kit.

yeah i think 280rwkw is plenty for me on a ute...

what size injectors would you be looking at? i looked on the capa website and they had injectors are rated in hp... ive always had them sized on cc's????

For that sort of power on a VU ute what size injectors are you looking at???

and can anyone recommend a good workshop in brisbane to give a call and talk more to about it???

thanks for the responses guys

Personally mate i wouldnt even bother with a v6. I drive a vy2 storm (ecotec v6) and i get bout 12-14 litres per 100km as opposed to most of the ls1 guys getting 14-16 litres per 100km(dont quote me on that lol) So really for the extra power and enjoyment and not to mention the great engine note just buy a v8. I dont think resale in a few years time will be that bad.

I would also recommend going V8, V6's can be fun but the amount of money required to achieve the same as the 8 with crap economy is not worth it, trust me.

the super v6 drinks more, my gauge says 17.8l/100 at the moment.

ok thanks again for the info... i think i would definately go the V8 after everyones feed back...

just one more question.. this time on gearbox's...

how strong is the 4sp autobox or the 6sp man????

for 280rwkw would it be necisary to change anything????

Cheers guys

CAPA does a 300kW kit for the Alloytec, which would go darn hard and get good cruising economy.

The old standard 4L60E in my VT11 is handling 285 rwkw ok. Just get a good tune done with nice firm quick shifts.
