I am interested if any members have been pulled over and/or fined for aftermarket pipes? If so what was the fine/ooutcome.
I hear a lot about this issue from other riders and in magazines. Even though I have quite loud pipes on the Cagiva I have never had an issue when pulled up beside cops.

When I had my R1 I had a Yoshi RS3 and the cops never batted an eye at it. Maybe if you draw attention to yourself at the same moment they may pick on it.

I was riding with a mate round Yarra Boulevard in Melbourne once and the EPA had set up with the cops and were stopping a heap of bikes. There was an on the spot dB reading machine. I was running a standard pipe, my mate got done on a Babyblade with a Megacycle pipe. $500 on the spot fine. No ifs buts or maybes. I've been on a '01 Fireblade for 4 or 5 years with a Micron pipe, never had a problem. Stay away from known bike hang-outs, you should be right. Cheers.

I had just bought a brand new fireblade in 03 and had it out for the first time,in the city i was cruising at 20km/h in traffic and a cop ran out and flagged me down,he started to be real mean and demanded i ride my bike up the gutter of the road,i refused and told him its a brand new bike and i dont want to damage it,as it was a high gutter.he then wen over the bike with a fine tooth combe looking for defects.he couldnt find anything and then started asking me bout the exhaust as i bought it with a micron pipe from new.he said he doesnt care and wrote me a fine for noise pollution.as he was writing the fine a swarm of harleys rode by and i said "wat about those bikes",his remark was dont get smart and tell me how to do my job,so i had to cop the fine on the chin and the rudeness of that arrogant cop !! :cussing:
regards sonny
I got pulled over on Dorset road in Croyden(Vic) with a laser pipe on the CBR 1000 and defected for noise as i pulled away from the lights
I was working for a Honda dealership at the time and had the pipe re-packed with no differrance between the before and after db reading and was passed by the RTA (bit pissed off as i had to pay for labour in re-packing muffler with no change to db, should have just ridden straight to RTA for db reading)

I've got a Micron Titanium on mine, which at full song is pretty loud. I'd be curious though if I was pulled up with it, as it was dealer fitted from new as a promo, so would I be liable or could I bring it down on them (still under warranty also)???

I had a NSR400R, was one of Wayne Gardners ex circuit bikes that was "re registered".
It had custom pipes, and being a 3cyl 2 Stroke it made all sorts a noise, and only ever got pulled up once, but they just wanted to check the lights, they commented on the noise, when i said ive never had complaints, they fobbed it off....
Mighta been lucky?

Where i live is a popular ride destination (twisty mountain road) so i get all sort of bike going by, when the HD's go by, you can't hear yourself think, the windows in the house shake, and that is just cruizing, sport bikes come by (even my brothers Duke with aftermarket pipes) and there is nowhere near the noise, even though often they are getting stuck into it. So, on the weekend, as i pull out of my drive, i get flagged down by the copper running that Radar over the road to give me a warning about zorst noise (seriously it is not loud at all). On top of that I hear of sport bike getting pulled over all the time, but HD's get away with it. Do i just need more tats or less showers?

How did you go getting re-registered??? I was of the understanding that fully converted track bikes cannot come back to the street, the same way "written off" bikes can go to track bikes and not come back either??
Correct me if I'm wrong??

This was a long time ago. we are talking 11 years... The person i bought it from had it re-egineered and all was done properly.
A visit approx 4 months after i got the bike to Wayne Gardner Racing, confirmed it was an ex circuit bike, used for testing. They kept all the original parts as when they got them from Honda, they had to strip them down.....
I'll see if i can find some old photos and scan them.....
I tell u what, i do miss the bike though, nothing beats that quack it made...

Maybe it should be mandatory for all cops to ride a bike with standard pipes in traffic for a month before they go into active duty. About the third time a motorist tries to sideswipe them because they didn't see or hear anything they may get the point of aftermarket pipes.
Its all about safety for me... no honest, it got nothing whatsoever to do with the beautiful rorty throb of a big vtwin... or that awsome crackle under engine braking....

I have to agree with Oppylock on that one. Hate the sound, hate the performance...and it really annoys me to know that people are staring at that ugly polished, scorched titanium "thing" on the side of my bike:drool:
