Michael Schumacher announces retirement; 2006 to be his last season. I feel privileged to have seen this great man race and have followed him from the very start! F1 will never be the same.

In years to come, we will brag to our grandchildren that we saw him race.

Got myself a signed Schumacher helmet last year ... :bravo:
I will miss watching him race but I think he has chosen a sensible time to retire, if he can win the championship this year it will be a fairytale retirement.
A true champion.

My thoughts as well Geoff, pleased to say I saw him race at Melbourne, shame we couldn't see him up against Kimi next year though.

Couldn't agree more.
A lot of champions tarnish their image by continuing on beyond a time when they are competitive, or worse still, make a comeback in a bid to recover some long lost glory.
Schumaker has picked a perfect time to retire, and I can't help but feel that he has continued until Ferrari were competitive again before he hung up his boots (Didn't want to go out with a fizzle).

He's certainly a genius behind the wheel - I think the best ever. Pity he's a Lloyd Bridges....

Does that mean he has a couple of Dopey sons too?
Yes he is going out with perfect timing. I wonder what is in the script for his future.
I would love to see brother Ralph go on to better achievments now .

No. 2 seat = Massa
No. 1 seat = Kimi
The curse of the ferrari co-driver continues :flip2:

Of course neither car will actually carry #1 if Michael wins.
There seems to be some tension though between the team and Michael over the decision though, MS made it clear he had to consider Massa's future as well as his own when making the decision, but theres also Raikonnen to consider, who Ferrari have been chasing for a while.

well done to michael, and like most others have said he really has chosen to retire at his peak. Congratulations to him, hope he still remains in the scene somewhere!

he didn't seem real happy about the idea when he spoke.
Like crompo said most drivers find it really hard to just retire from racing.
He was a great driver.
His year didn't look to good until Renault got the stabilser taken of them, now its more even between them....

Your right F1 won't be the same again, it will hopfully be better, I'm not detracting from the fact that he is a great driver and is very commited to his sport, I will give him that however I don't like his tactics in order to win. He has won races and championships by taking out other drivers(and playing with their lives) in my opinion he is not playing in the spirit of the sport.

Goodbye to the other King. He may not be the fairest driver ever, but none of them are. Well, not in F1 anyway. Senna (rip), Prost, Hakkinnen and the Schu have all been naughty boys @ one point or another. He will be sorely missed. I have been following and supporting him since the Early 90's and F3 days
