Hi all, long time viewer, finally got my activation sorted, Tony's the name living here in sunny (usually) Brisbane. Love this site, and am fascinated by some of the threads and the comments made therein. Had a somewhat mischevious youth but now and am one of the dreaded 'boys in blue'..don't hold it against me and don't be afraid to make comment...I'm thick skinned, have a great sense of humour..and have far better things to do than hunt things down I've seen on here! :eyes:
For my daily driver I have an '02 GTO in phantom (flatmate has a Maloo)...and yes I can certainly appreciate a goodlooking and well built car..even some of the ricers..whilst looking like s@#t to me, I can appreciate that they have been put together well...although why not get a good, strong V8 in the first place?:werd:
I see this site has other coppers from various places, lawyers, and all sorts...so if anybody ever has something they want to ask about feel free, I'll offer what advice I can...totally unbiased...trust me!

Welcome mate - btw, a blue boy mate of mine in NZ was telling me about the radio slang eg K10 = taking a break, K9 = traffic stop etc. Do you have similar radio code/slang?

Rotty
11-09-2006, 01:19 PM
We do have them, but I don't think I've heard anybody use them in the 11 years I've been in. We use other codes for jobs (eg. 134 = break and enter, 312 = domestic etc)..but given that all metro radios are digitally encrypted and regional ones will be before long..we are the only ones listening anyway...scanners=useless.

And for jkgmh...haven't taken any piccys:shock: ..but well...think black '02 HSV GTO and there you have it! Pretty stock at the mo...except for changed taillights (thanks Brad at Mr Muffler Sumner Park..can I say that?)..but there are plans...oooh there are plans...money..well another story...

hey mate .
welcome to forum

hypathetical question in intrests sake.

on duty, vt series 2 drives past doin nothing wrong but happens to be rolling on a set of 20 or 22 inch rims. would u stop and question him???

only asking cause was thinkin bout upsizing from 20s to 22s, but was wondering how strict u personaly would be on big rims, and how much unwanted attention they would get???
cheers
PS. by the way TF-380 is not my ummm rego.

Me personally? No, can't answer for traffic branch...or Transport...but if you're not doing anything wrong you are less likely to attract attention. A lot of complaints we get are from people living in close vicinity of a "hoon" and if they don't see police activity nearby after complaining, they make a formal "Ministerial" complaint to local member of parliament about lack of Police action...damned if we do, damned if we don't.
But in answer to the original question..no, I've better things to do. I know a couple of guys that would probably pull you over to go ooh and ahh over the rims and how they look...we are human too and appreciate fine machines! But best way to keep the crabs off you is to cruise, enjoy the ride and leave ripping it up to the track.

Welcome aboard. Thought about becoming a cop for a while now....still thinking though.

As for the above, I thought there were scanners coming onto the market that can pick up and decode the police's new digital network? How then do the tow-trucks get there so quickly?

Doubt there will be a scanner like that anytime soon, ambos and firies are still un-encrypted...usually get the job before us anyway! We seem to be arriving as they are packing up.

Good job to think about, some parts are better than others of course, and the paperwork is pretty sucky..all in all a good career. Like all jobs..there all types wearing uniform...even some of the traffic guys can be almost human sometimes!

I have a question.
I am interested to know how much discretion is used by cops (cops in general not just yourself) when it comes to pulling people up for speeding.
For example, if we have a WRX STI and an EH Holden towing a box trailer traveling at the same speed, would most cops take into account that WRX has more powerful brakes,ABS and better grip therefore generally a safer prospect than the EH. I understand that I'm ingnoring the critical point of the driver in this senario but do cops think about this stuff. I find it funny that I can drive at the same speed in the wet or dry and both are seen to be safe (I don't get pulled up) even though the breaking distances would be very different.
Your personal veiw on the topic of speeding would be interesting as we don't get to hear your side very often unless it some high ranking cop dribbling "Speeding is bad um kay".
Cheers.

I assume things are the same now as they were about 5 years ago when I left the Fire Service.

The QFRS struck a deal with the media, once a genuine job came in (i.e House fire, Car accident, Hazmat or Rescue) and once the fire crew had been turned out they would contact the media with the details, usually by pager.

Having media at the scene is generally very handy, if you have a good reporter and camera man. If it's at night the big arse lights they have on those camera's can light up a fair area. The footage they take can often be used for legal purposes should it ever arise.

As for the towie's, well it's their responsability to clean and clear the road, So they are called most times to an MVA anyway. They have a system now much like the Taxi's to keep it fair, again they are contacted soon after the crew has turned out.

Hope that clears it up for you. :)

PS: Rotty welcome.

PPS: Rotty, that white flash that goes past you at Strathpine really isn't me. Honest. :p

Sorry for the tardiness...currently in Montevideo, Uruguay getting our collective Roller Hockey butts handed to us on a platter first by Macau, then by Mexico..play India tonight, then NZ or Austria to try and get at least 7th...bummer that we were 4th last Worlds!
But anyhoo...MotionSS...define inside man? Oppylock..speeding is bad..umkay...seriously though generally speaking coppers will take all sorts of factors into account, spped, weather, car, driver, etc...unfortunately WRX's, whilst I agree would be safer for conditions you describe, often have 'zorst, pop-offs etc...all attention grabbers. If it was a traffic site using lidar coppers would likely grab both cars for tickets, if it was a follow speed one of them for either a caution or a ticket..depending on attitude of driver (did I say that!) but can't give away too many secrets! Hope that helps a wee bit? Hope all is well in land of Oz...this place is a madhouse on the roads...lanes? what lanes?

Finally back home after two weeks of sucking second hand cigarette smoke, crazy drivers, itsy bitsy cars, nearly being run over because I constantly looked the wrong way stepping off the footpath (my bad!)....had a great time but it was sooooo good to step into my baby and fire up that big beautiful rumbling V8..ahhhhhhhhh home sweet home!

WELCOME!! Very nice offer Tony. I'm from Emergency Sevices Brisbane as well (not QPS). Been done a couple of times by those dreaded speed cameras hiding behind the sound barriers on the Bruce and gateway.. So many variables and personalities come into it mate (yep we are human too) I don't envy you answering the hundreds of questions that will probably arise for you on this forum.

My sorst note and loudness after recent mods concens me being pulled up for what I see as relative crap. I try to back off when I see you guys but stealth is on your side, this particularly applies the newbys to QPS who may be after a few kills and points scoring.:yup:

We have the same over enthusiastic buggers in my service arm!! PM me we probably have a few things in common:)
