It is good news too see petrol price$ coming down, but what about diesel, it is still up there.
I am a diesel consumer and a premium unleaded user, on one hand it is great on the other hand why is diesel price not coming down
Cheers

Wonder what the reaction will be now from those people that have recently sold their V8's due to the "soaring" petrol prices ? :teach:

Happened to be flicking through channels today and on the midday ABC news was a supposed 'expert' (have no idea whether he was or wasn't) who I am sure said he expected prices to settle back to around $50 per barrel but with possible spikes as high as $100 and as low as $30.
Just like all the dooms day sayers that have been preaching >$2/Litre by Christmas

We're at their mercy. I can't figure it out. So called experts said that we were paying high prices because the oil supply is running out. The government announces $2K rebate on LPG and that there's a 5 month wait on conversions. Then the price of fuel drops and the experts come out saying there's plenty of oil. As long as the price drops I'll be happy. It's better going down then up. Then again the Reserve Bank will probably raise interest rates as a result....

The Reserve Bank may have to raise interest rates again because Aussies (as a group) can't seem to save, and keep running up debts...
Petrol prices move in cycles, slowly trending upwards. I doubt that will change in the near future.

When me and 2 other mates went out and bought V8's everyone around us said we were crazy with petrol prices going up and up, looks like that few thousand $$$ I saved by buying a fuel guzzling V8 that noone wanted might pay off anyway, I haven't really found that I'm spending much more on petrol that I was with my V6 anyway.

The reason deisal is cheaper over in NZ is that they dont tax it as they do in Aus, however as a diesal user you must purchase Kms from the govenment, this means that if you drive 2000kms you buy that from the govenment. I cant remenber the exact price of it but by the time you calculate that into the price of diesal it works out almost simular to the prices we are paying here in AUS.
Remember the time about 6-8 years ago when fuel was about 70 cents a litre and deisal was 25 cents, its just a by product, I can understand it has gone through a bit of refining process over the years to make it cleaner but why is it now dearer?

Bang on with the diesel prices from NZ (we ran a diesel car when living there) I do recall petrol at 70cpl but don't recall diesel being 25cpl? On the farm with a rebate we paid around 40cpl at the same time about 7 years ago but that was after about 20+ cpl rebate from Govt for primary producers. I has gone up more than petrol but not by as much as you are saying I dont think?

Well he's certainly hedged his bets there, at least we cant say he will be wrong with such a broad variation

It's good to see them bringing the price down - they could just've left it at $1.40/L and we'd still be paying that.
Still expensive, but better than it was..... I guess.

Yeah, but the important thing is the $50. The others were just short term spikes.
I filled up (98 octane) at $1.23.9 today - cheapest I've seen for months!

I got my motoring worth out of the LS1 when fuel was 89cpl, now that its a 120plus, jump of 30% or more, my wage hasnt increased by that amount in the same timeframe, only because of my ability to be pro active has got me out of a jam.
What struck me as poignant, coming through citylink on way home near the casino, I just looked at all the cars sitting in gridlock with traffic lights going red then green then red then green, but nothing moving, talk about a waste of time, fuel, money and poor traffic management resources.
The days on 89 cpl are long gone, those who believe fuel will fall anytime soon are deluding themselves.

And that, my friends, is why I bus to work and save the fuel for when the roads are clear and the driving is fun. I like driving too much to drive in crap conditions like peak hour city traffic.

Just over 12 months ago, petrol prices were about what they are now (but heading in the up direction) and people were complaining big time, now it seems cheap to everyone. People get sucked in so bad, petrol companies must love these conditioned people who now believe $1.20 is cheap, and are so short sighted that they can't see the inevitability of it heading back up to new record prices. How short sighted are most people? Where have the major talks gone about using Ethanol and biodiesel and getting tax benefits on bio-fuels? No doubt, planning has been put off till we are struggling for oil again

Trust me - oil prices are purely driven by market forces and no Govt enquiry is needed!!
BS - if the above is true - why, when barrel prices have been dropping - have bowser prices mysteriously gone up again during the day 12 or so cents mid week on a Wednesday!!!

Im not getting used to it but hear you loud and clear. Its funny how people get conditioned, well most anyway, and not just with petrol prices but so many other things in life.
I can appreciate money is spent to locate and drill for oil, but the oil companies boast how much is still out there like we are not going to peak in our lifetime. I don't know what or who to believe really, but tend to feel slightly negative on the situation at hand with the above.
I think our current price fluctuations mostly are political games at their best.
World Oil peak is going to strike one day, if it is happening now, tomorrow or another 50, 100 years away we will never know the real truth until its dread has well and truly drawn upon us. Sometimes I think governments and oil companies use this weapon to keep prices up higher then needed to keep increasing profit margins.
If someone farts in the world then prices of crude goes up. Funny that!
More funny, Korea send a ballistic rocket into the sea and the oil prices go up. Did they blew up any oil refineries? Maybe they used 100,000 barrels of oil to launch it? I don't think so!
Bio-diesel is in my sight and im quite keen to make my own for my second car which is a diesel in the next few months once I complete my research and then build my own private processor.
I personally want the option to at least run one car of mine independent from the oil price games we all have had to play.
The hype over ethanol, bio-diesel and other alternatives of late has brought the realisation that people are thinking of alternatives more seriously ever than before.
Oil consumption has dropped somewhat in Australia over the last few months due to the hikes. If you ride a train regularly, you would have noticed this a lot.
Reduced consumption trends are risking future profits for oil companies. Now suddenly the prices are now dropping?
Why so I wonder? Supply and demand? The issues behind it are complex and those profiting want to keep it that way.
On a brighter note, if petrol drops to $1 or less, that would be the day and great news for us V8 heads no doubt but not holding my breath.
Sorry for the long post of dribble, just in one of those moods again:1peek:

There are variances of around 15cpl in Canberra at the moment. I think pump price will fall a bit further though, as cheaper inventory flows through.

if its not profiteering i dont know what to call it..
Driving to the girlfriend's house last night i saw fuel at $1.17 for ULP at a shell service station near my house (s/e melbourne) at approx 9:45pm.. Driving home this morning (around 7:30) the same service station had ULP listed for $1.26... I ask this - how can fuel rise 10cpl in 9 hours without any government organisation (especially the ACCC) raising an eyebrow?
I (along with 99% of the general public) find this practice unforgivably obcene

The trend is to always fill/buy petrol early in the week. I find Mon/Tues and Wed morning the best times. After that the price increases by the magic number. That is 9 - 12 cpl...

I have been told that John Howard signed an agreement that there would be no regulation on petrol pricing, so now there is nothing they can do about it... The did sign somthing on gas, hense its price being low... It is public knowledge that this happened, i just dont know the details

I hear what you are saying but what is the point in griping all day long about petrol prices? We are car enthusiasts so damned if I'm gonna start fretting over spending an extra $4/tank to fill the clubby up, at the end of the day life goes on, lets bitch when it hits $2.60/l like it equates to in places in europe right now, If people only have fuel prices to worry about then they have a pretty good/boring life :yup:
