Hi All,

I have a VX GTS that has a full D/F exhaust system (extractors, opened cats & twin 2 1/2 cat back). I love the sound, but I am now considering getting even more V8 sound. I was thinking of putting on a twin 3" system. Would this system be too big for my GTS?? Any other suggestions to get more V8 growl?? I've doen a search but seem to be getting nowhere.

Cheers

In reading this forum for the past two years I would suggest that twin 3 inch exhaust is too big. Twin 2.5 inch suits an LS1 until you start toying with big cams and blowers...

If you want a v8 rumble wont dont you look into getting a mild cam? That really brings out the real v8 sound and gives it a nice lumpy idle too. :D

hally8296: Yeah, I thought the twin 3" was too big too, but as my car is a GTS and already has a mild cam and different heads from the factory (it has the 300kw C4B motor) then I thought maybe the twin 3" would be OK.

Yeh i getcha, i was more reffering to a slightly bigger cam to give you that lumpier idle and that v8 sound that your looking for... But anyways back to your original post if you read the first post in this thread they have a GEN TT system being installed and they are still keeping the twin 2.5" exhaust on. If you really want a beefy sound go for a stroker kit. Plus you'll love the newfound torque. :burnout:

Yep, already been in discussions with WA Performance about the GENTT kit. Am keen on them getting ADR approval and then I think we may see some turbos under the GTS's bonnet..:burnout: In the meantime maybe some work on the mufflers will be what I need to beef up the sound even more..

some have suggested replacing the centre mufflers with hotdogs
that should help get it roaring alittle more. (dont remove the reso that just sounds pretty dodgy from what ive heard, wont be as deep, it'll be louder and crackly) Otherwise a small cam would be a good idea as the GTS has different heads they will complement a small cam well. Most people go the 224/228 112lsa. thats a good street cam. or if you want it alittle wilder speak to an expert and they'll find you a suitable cam for YOUR requirments

I have heard a standard (with tune) LS1 with Dual 3" and it sounds very very nice ... If you want the sound and dont mind a bit of bottom end loss, then go the Dual 3.

I put a twin 3"on the barge when it was cam only and picked up a bit of power and ran a PB with it. Sounds awesome but are pretty heavy. If your looking at turbo's or a big head/cam job you will love the twin 3" as the sound is very old school.

Zombee,

I have a dual Difilippo 3" on a unopened LS1 with standard bolt ons. Sounds really good. Expected to lose power because we thought the system was too big but still had a small gain of 9rwkw. Cam organised for October with TBA throttle body and UD Pulley should compliment the system. 408 Iron Block and FI is in the pipeline in the next year or so.

Do it you wont regret it. Its the only way to go if you have bigger plans for your beast.

Cheers
