Hi All,
I want to paint the brake calipers on my car red, I noticed a post here a while ago where someone had painted their calipers, I was just wondering what sort of paint/spray was used. I think someone had used VHT engine enamel, can anyone advise on what is the best way to paint the calipers.
Thanks all

just remember preperation is the key:yup:
make sure they are spotless clean before that first layer goes on
thin layers and heaps of them
nothin worse than badly painted callipers...

I painted my fronts a while ago with the Super Cheap brake caliper paint about 4 months ago. It has lasted well with no blistering, chipping or cracking so far. I gave them both about 8 coats and they came up pretty tidy. Make sure they're clean and use a solvent (mineral turps) to remove all traces of oil/crap from them before you start the job. As a guide, I bought 2 cans but only needed one and still had leftover - as someone said... lots of THIN coats.
Good luck.

I painted mine some time ago, maybe year and half ago.
All I did was grab a can of manifold paint from K-Mart.
Didn't do much in the way of preparation, just a quick wipe over with some turps.
After all the heat and washes, still going strong!!

The painted clip doesn't look too bad eh. I masked mine off fearing it might look silly all the one colour but that looks pretty good.

I used a small brush and did them in place, two coats of PA-10 which is an etch primer, wait 2 hours inbetween coats and then just a 2 pot paint not thinned over the top and you get away with one top coat. All done in a day, no sanding before or inbetween coats and just a solvent to clean them first. Came up well and stayed on for the 4 years I had the car without problem and I am sure would have stayed there for ever.
Thats how I did it and most likely the easiest way IMO.

Love this forum, went out today and purchased VHT paint and completed the change over to match the car.
Never thought to use foil for protecting the areas, but after reading up on this site tried it and worked like a charm.
